aka GALES PLOT
Gales Plat was an arable field, situated on the south side of Church Lane adjacent to Belfers. In the Tithe Award it was measured at 3 roods and 7 perches; on the OS map as 0.759 acres.
Gales Plat was one close, part of "five acres and an half lying in divers places dispersedly in Bisley". These were held separately from but alongside Belfers. Prior to his death in 1780, the copyhold of Belfers was held by George Martin. On his death it passed to his son James.
When James died in 1808, the property passed to his wife, Sarah. However, in 1789 James had mortgaged the premises, including Gales Plat, to secure a loan of £100; in 1842 this loan was in arrears and forfeit and James Try took possession. James Try immediately sold the premises, including Gales Plat, to John Loveland for £149.
John Loveland died in 1873 and his estate was inherited by his wife, Jane. Jane Loveland died in 1876. In her will she directed her executors to sell her estate; it was bought by the Reverend William Tringham of Busbridge near Godalming.
In August 1879 the lands were enfranchised and thereafter held freely of the manor.
