This is the last Will and Testament of me Charles Edward Fenton of Chobham in the County of Surrey and of Doctors Commons London one of the Proctors of the Arches Court of Canterbury I hereby appoint John William Goldsmith of Cottage Green Camberwell in the County of Surrey Gentleman sole Executor of this my will I give and bequeath to my Son in Law The Reverend Charles Frederick John Pape Protestant Minister of Hensden in the Kingdom of Holland the Nessing Case with its contents presented to me by Mrs Taylor of the Stock Exchange London Also I give and bequeath to the aforesaid John William Goldsmith (who has always been my friend and attended my best interest) Hume & Smolletts History of England in thirteen Octavo Volumes whole bound in Calf Also I give and bequeath to my faithful housekeeper Elizabeth Coleman Spinster (whose attentions to me for many years and during several long and tedious illnesses have been unremitting regretting it is not in my power more to amply to reward her) the sum of Twenty pounds and further a sufficiency to purchase her mourning at the discretion of my aforesaid Executor in addition to all arrears of wages due to her at the time of my decease I also give and bequeath to the said Elizabeth Coleman the Gold watch and silver chain which I have constantly worn for a number of years I give and bequeath to my Son Thomas Fenton my brass bound mahogany writing Desk with its appurtenances All the Rest Residue and Remainder of my Estate and Effects of what nature or kind soever and wheresoever I direct may be valued or sold at the discretion of my Executor and I give and bequeath one moiety or half part of such valuation or prouvos of sale (after payment of all my just debts and funeral expenses which I desire may be conducted on the most moderate scale and without show or parade) to my dear daughter Elizabeth Amelia Pape (wife of the aforesaid Reverend Charles Frederick John Pape) her heirs executors administrators or assigns for her sole use and benefit and independent of the debts controul or engagements of her present or any future husband And I direct that her receipt alone shall be a sufficient discharge for the amount of the aforesaid moiety of the residue of my Personal Estate and effects I give and bequeath to my aforesaid Son Thomas Fenton his heirs executors administrators or assigns the remaining moiety or half part (subject to my debts and funeral expenses as aforesaid) of the residue of my aforesaid Estate and Effects for his own absolute use and benefit And I sincerely hope there will be such a mutual good understanding between him and my aforesaid friend John William Goldsmith as that they may study how they can best assist each other either Professionally or otherwise And lastly revoking and making void all former Wills Codicils or Testamentary dispositions by me at any time heretofore made or instructed I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal to this my last Will and Testament contained in one sheet of paper this twenty fourth day of October in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty nine Ch.
