This is the last Will and Testament of me the Reverend John 
King of Chobham in the County of Surrey Clerk  I give and 
bequeath unto my dear wife Jane King the dividends and 
annual produce of the sum of five thousand pounds new 
three pounds ten shillings per cent bank annuities during her 
life and from and after her decease I give and bequeath unto 
my Cousin The Reverend John King of Hull the sum of five 
hundred pounds new three pounds ten shillings per cent 
bank annuities and unto my Cousin Mrs Mary Ann Foster the 
wife of George Foster Esquire of Hull the sum of five 
hundred pounds like bank annuities and unto my aunt Mrs 
Henry King of West Wilton Widow during her live the 
dividends and annual produce of the sum of five hundred 
pounds like annuities and after her decease unto her 
daughter Mrs Eton the same sum of five hundred pounds like 
annuities unto my Cousin Mr Henry King of Hull the sum of 
five hundred pounds like annuities and unto my Cousin Mr 
Thomas King of The Marine Society London the sum of five 
hundred pounds like annuities and unto and equally between 
the children of the said Thomas King who shall be living at my 
decease and who shall attain the age of twenty one years the 
sum of two hundred pounds like annuities and unto my 
Cousin Miss Eliza King of Wandsworth the sum of five 
hundred pounds like annuities and unto my Cousin Mr 
Samuel King of Grantham the sum of five hundred pounds 
like annuities and unto my Cousin Mr Herbert King of 
Leicester the sum of five hundred pounds like annuities and 
unto my Cousin Mr James King of Leicester the sum of five 
hundred pounds like annuities and unto my Cousin Mr James 
Simpson of Hull the sum of one hundred pounds like 
annuities and unto my said dear wifes relative Miss Ellen 
Hudson of Bayswater the sum of one hundred pounds like 
annuities and unto her sister Miss Ann Hudson of Bayswater 
the sum of one hundred pounds like annuities and I direct 
the same legacies to be paid free of legacy duty and all 
expences attending the receipts to be given for the same and 
I give my silver watch in a Tortoise Shell case my late dear 
Father's unto my said Cousin John King and all the rest and 
residue of my personal estate and effects of what nature or 
kind soever and wheresoever I give and bequeath unto my 
said dear wife for her own absolute use and benefit and I 
appoint my said dear wife sole Executrix of this my will In 
Testimony of all which I have hereunto set my hand and seal 
this twenty ninth day of May in the year of our Lord one 
thousand eight hundred and thirty four

This is a Codicil to the last will and Testament of me the 
Reverend John King Rector of Bisley in the County of Surrey 
and in my said will which bears date the twenty ninth day of 
May one thousand eight hundred and thirty four described as 
of Chobham in the same County Clerk whereas I have by my 
said will appointed my dear wife Jane King sole Executrix 
thereof Now I do hereby nominate and appoint James 
Clement Bridgewater of No 31 Southampton Street in the 
County of Middlesex Printer to be an Executor of my said will 
and of this Codicil thereto jointly with my said dear wife or if 
she should die in my lifetime then I appoint the said James 
Clement Bridgewater sole Executor thereof and I give and 
bequeath to the said James Clement Bridgewater a legacy or 
sum of fifty pounds free of legacy duty in the event of his 
proving my said will and Codicil either solely or jointly with 
my said dear wife and whereas in the event of my surviving 
my said dear wife I shall under the trusts of the Settlement 
made on our marriage have the absolute power of disposing 
of the sum of two thousand pounds bank three pounds per 
cent consolidated annuities Now I do hereby in the event 
aforesaid give and bequeath the same as follows unto my 
Cousin The Reverend John King of Hull the sum of five 
hundred pounds Bank three pounds per cent consolidated 
annuities, unto my Cousin Mrs Mary Ann Foster the wife of 
George Foster Esquire of Hull aforesaid the sum of five 
hundred pounds like annuities To my Cousin Mr Henry King 
of Hull the sum of five hundred pounds like annuities and 
unto my Cousin Mr Thomas King of The Marine Society 
London the sum of four hundred pounds like annuities To my 
Cousin Mrs Eliza Robins of Brighton in the County of Sussex 
Widow of the late ?? Robins Wine Merchant formerly Eliza 
King Spinster the sum of four hundred pounds like annuities 
to my Cousin Samuel King of Grantham in the County of 
Lincoln the sum of one hundred pounds like annuities and to 
my Cousin Mr Herbert King of Leicester the sum of one 
hundred pounds like annuities and which said sums of five 
hundred pounds five hundred pounds four hundred pounds 
four hundred pounds one hundred pounds and one hundred 
pounds bank three per cent consolidated annuities make 
together the said sum of two thousand pounds like annuities 
and whereas in the like event of my surviving my said dear 
Wife I shall under the trusts of her father's will have the like 
absolute power of disposing of the sum of seven hundred 
and fifty pounds bank three pounds ten shillings per cent 
annuities and which are about to be converted into three 
pounds five shillings per cent annuities now I do hereby in 
the event aforesaid give and bequeath the same as follows 
unto my wife's second Cousin John Conyers Hudson of 
Kingsthorpe Hall in the County of York the sum of one 
hundred pounds like annuities unto his daughter Miss Ann 
Hudson the sum of one hundred pounds like annuities to my 
wife's Servant Mary Ropley the sum of twenty five pounds 
like annuities to my wife's other Servant Celia Knowles the 
sum of ten pounds like annuities and out of the residue of 
the said sum of seven hundred and fifty pounds like annuities 
I direct the following legacies for Mourning to be raised and 
paid viz To my wife's Cousin Ann Richardson ten pounds To 
Mary Ellen Amys ten pounds To Mrs James Clement 
Bridgewater ten pounds To the said John Conyers Hudson 
ten pounds To Mrs John Conyers Hudson ten pounds, to the 
said Miss Ann Hudson ten pounds, to my wife's second 
Cousin Robert Hudson Esquire ten pounds and to each of the 
servants living with me at my decease five pounds and in the 
event of my surviving my said dear wife I do hereby give and 
bequeath all my plate pictures and house linen to Miss Ann 
Hudson of Bayswater also my said dear wife's gold watch 
formerly her Mothers to the said Mrs James Clement 
Bridgewater her other gold watch in a Tortoise shell case 
(formerly her sister Mrs Walter's) to the said Mrs Ann 
Hudson and her small gold watch formerly belonging to her 
brother Conyers Barker to Conyers Hudson son of the said 
John Conyers Hudson and I do hereby declare and direct that 
none of the said legacies bequeathed by this my Codicil save 
and except the said legacy of fifty pounds to my said executor 
shall become due or payable unless I survive my said dear 
wife and in that event and only in that event I do hereby give 
and bequeath the rest and residue of my estate and effects 
to the said Ann Richardson and James Clement Bridgewater 
in equal shares and proportions and I do hereby confirm my 
said will in all other respects  In testimony whereof I have 
hereunto set my hand this 4th day of June one thousand eight 
hundred & forty four

In the Prerogative Court of Canterbury  
In the Goods of the Rev.d John King Clerk deceased
Appeared Personally Joseph Hewer of the parish of Chobham 
in the County of Surrey Surgeon and made Oath that he was 
present at the execution of and is one of the subscribed 
witnesses to the Codicil to the last Will and Testament of the 
said Reverend John King late of Chobham in the County of 
Surrey and Rector of the Parish of Bisley in the same County 
Clerk deceased the said Codicil being now hereunto annexed 
and beginning thus "This is a Codicil to the last Will and 
Testament of me the Reverend John King Rector of Bisley in 
the County of Surrey" and ending thus "and I do hereby 
confirm my said will in all other respects  In testimony 
whereof I have hereunto set my hand this 4th day of June one 
thousand eight hundred & forty four" and having viewed and 
perused the said Codicil he lastly made Oath that on the said 
recited day of the date thereof namely the fourth day of June 
in the year one thousand eight hundred and forty four the 
said testator duly executed the said Codicil by signing the 
name "John King" at the foot or end thereof in the presence 
of him the Deponent and the Reverend John Hewer the other 
subscribed witness thereto since deceased that he the 
deponent and the said John Hewer were then both present 
at the same time and that they both thereupon set and 
subscribed their names to the said Codicil as witnesses 
attesting the due execution thereof in the presence of the 
said testator and of each other _ Joseph Hewer on the 
thirtieth day of April in the year of our Lord one thousand 
eight hundred and forty five the said Joseph Hewer was in 
virtue of the annexed Commission duly sworn to the truth of 
the aforegoing affidavit Before me _ James ??????

Proved at London with a Codicil 5th May 1845 before the 
Worshipful James Parker Deane Doctor of Laws and 
Surrogate by the Oath of James Clement Bridgewater the 
sole Executor named in the said Codicil to whom Admon was 
granted having been first sworn duly to administer Jane King 
the wife of the said testator having died in his lifetime.
