In the name of God Amen The One and twentieth day of October in the One and thirtieth yeare of the Raigne of o.r Sovraigne Lord King Charles the Second &t, Annoq Dni 1679 I George Gardiner of Wokeing in the County of Surry Mercer being sicke in body but of sound & perfect minde & memory (prayse be therefore given to Almighty God) doe hereby make ordaine & declare this my last will & testam in manner & forme followeing (That is to say) First & principally I comend my Soule into the hands of Almighty God hopeing through the meritts death & passion of my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ to be saved onely And my body I comitt to the Earth to be decently buried according to the discretion of my Executrix hereafter named. Item in case my loveing wife Elizabeth being now with Childe be hereafter delived of a son or daughter, then I give & bequeath unto such son or daughter One Feather bed & boulster two pillowes one rugge two blanketts one Bedstead matt & Cords thereunto belongeing in the Chamber over the shoppe in the Messuage wherein I now dwell two serge Chaires one little table & two joynt stooles six pair of my best sheetes one dozen of bead worke napkins six napkins that were formerly given to my Mother by my Aunt Beane two of my best table Cloaths two pillowbeers one trunke all wch goods most usually remaine in or belong to the said Chamber, my great Brasse pott my biggest Kettle one brasse pann one bayle skillett one brasse morter & pestile Eight of my biggest pewter dishes (except those two pewter dishes that my wife brought with her att or marriage or sometyme since) one dozen of pewter plates marked with the letter G my largest paire of my pewter Candlesticks my greate pewter Flagon one pewter pint pott marked with the letters F.E.G. One warmeing pann one pair of cast Iron Andirons one Iron backe standing in the Hall Chimney in the said Messuage and the Table and Frame in the said Hall fower Silver bowles & fower silver spoones with knobbs Provided alwayes nevertheles & upon this Condison that in case any such Childe hereafter to be borne shall happen to dye without Issue before itt shall accomplishe its age one and twenty yeares, that from thenceforth this my bequest of all my said goods shall be utterly void & of none effect And that then & from thenceforth all my Linnen being part of my said Goods I give & bequeath unto my cousin George Raxley Item all the said Brasse & pewter (Except the said brasse pott) I give & bequeath unto my Cousin Perryor Raxley brother of the said George Raxley Item the said brasse pott I give & bequeath unto my brother Richard Gardiner Item all the rest of my said Goods above menconed I give & bequeath unto my said loveing wife Elizabeth. Item I will & desire that all my shoppe Goods & all other Goods relateing thereunto shall be sold imeadiately after my decease by my wife Elizabeth & out of the moneys raysed thereby I desire that shee pay & satisfy all my debts & all the rest of the moneys soe Raysed as aforesd I will & desire her to pay unto my unkle William Raxley & unto my unkle Thomas Hurst And I hereby desire them to put out the same moneys att interest in their owne names for the uses intents & purposes hereafter menconed (that is to say) the interest thereof for the use & behoofe of my said wife Elizabeth for & dureing the terme of her widdowhood in case itt shall not continue longer than my Childe hereafter to be borne as aforesd shall accomplish its age of one & twenty yeares And from & after such Childe shall attaine unto Its age of one & twenty yeares, then the said principall moneys & the interest thereof (in case my said wife happen to marry before) To the use & behoofe of such Childe itts Exors & Adms And in case such Childe happen to dye before itts said age without Issue or in case my said wife marry & have no childe Then the interest thereof To the use & behoofe of my said wife for & dureing the terme of her widdowhood And from & after the expiracon thereof Then Two parts of the principall moneys in three parts to be devided To the use & behoofe of my said brother Richard Gardiner his exors & adms And the other third part thereof To the use & behoofe of my said Cousin Perryor Raxley his exors & adms Item whereas I have surrendered All that Coppyhold messuage or tenement called Bothers & alsoe two Acres of land thereunto belongeing with the appurtenances in Wokeing aforesd to the use & behoofe of my last will & testam.t ; now I doe give bequeath & devise the ren'con thereof after my death & after the decease of my said wife & after the decease of my said Childe hereafter to be borne without Issue unto my said brother Richard Gardiner his heires & Asignes for ever. Item I give & bequeath the ren'con of all those my two acres of leasehold lands meadow ground lyeing & being in Walsham Meade in the pish of Pirford in the said County of Surry after my death & after the decease of my said wife Elizabeth & after the decease of my said Childe hereafter to be borne without Issue unto my Cousin George Raxley for & dureing the remainder of the terme of yeares as shall be then to come & unexpired Item I give bequeath & devise the ren'con of all those my seaven acres of meadowe ground lyeing & being in Wokeing aforesd after my death & after the decease of my said wife & after the decease of my said Childe hereafter to be borne without Issue unto my said Cousin George Raxley his heires & assignes for ever. Item all the rest of my Goods & Chattells not given nor bequeathed I give & bequeath unto my said loveing wife Elizabeth whom I make sole Executrix of this my last will and testament to pay my debts legacyes & funerall expences In witness whereof I have hereunto sett my hand & Seal the day & yeare first above written.
