I George Dawson of Pirbright in the County of Surry, Clerk being of 
sound mind and body do make this my last Will and Testament in 
manner and form following  I give to my Niece Mrs [sic] Ann Betham 
Daughter of my late dear Sister Mrs Mary Betham; and my God-
child and one of my Trustees to this my last Will and Testament the 
sum of seven hundred Pounds being in her possession, or bonds 
bought in her Name;  But upon this condition that she pay annually 
after my death as follows. To her Sisters Mrs Mary Mrs Margaret 
and Mrs Eliza Betham, to each of them, during Life, six Pounds.  Item 
I leave to my Nephew the Reverend Mr Edw: Betham my other 
Trustee all my Books Writings and MSS whatsoever  Item I give to the 
poor of the Parish of Pirbright the sum of ten Pounds, to be 
distributed by my Trustees or order.  Item my desire is that my 
Trustees do bury me frugally.  Item my desire is to have such a little 
monument fixt in the wall of the Chancel of Pirbright Church as is in 
Sunning-hill Church at the desire of my dear Father a true copy of 
which, is as I remember as follows, mutatis mutandis. Hir Jaret 
Georgius Dawson A. M. liujus Enlesia Winister at Presbytor per 
annoe quadraginta et quatuor qui dua sorte contentus fue tustamen 
sue melioris abiit obiit Oct: 27 Nat: AD 1679 de mat  Item as to the six 
hundred pounds to which m late dear Sister Mrs M. Betham and my 
self were and are justly intitled, being made over to us from the late 
Dr. Th.s Dawson our Brother and payable out of the Estate 
belonging to the late Lady Mathews, and due to the aforesaid Dr. Th. 
Dawson, her son in Law for a valuable consideration: This being 
made over to us by way of Assignment, I will and bequeath my 
Moiety of it to the children of my late dear Sister Mrs Betham; I wish 
I had more to have given, to have supplyed in some measure the 
Loss sustained.  Item I give to my Godchild and Trustee the aforesaid 
Mrs. Ann Betham my Gold Watch, my silver Castors, my late Wife's 
Chest of Drawers, also my Bed and best sheets, pillow cases, my 
Table clothes, cut out and made by my Sister Eliza Dawson; The 
sheets spun by old Dame Head, I give to my Nieces Mary and Eliza 
Betham; also to Mary Betham I give my silver Porringer; To Margaret 
Betham I give my spoons and silver candlestick; To Eliza Betham I 
give my silver Salt Sellers; Also I give to Mary Betham the large 
Dressing Glass with Drawers; To Margaret Betham I give my Trining [ 
should be 'trinity'?] looking Glass in the Hall, and the black dressing 
glass bought at Frimley, and to Eliza Betham I give my little dressing 
glass and the clock in the Hall.  Item all the rest and residue of my 
Goods and Chattels and all my Estate real and personal (which shall 
remain after my funeral Expenses just debts and above mentioned 
Legacies shall be discharged) I give and bequeath unto my aforesaid 
Trustees The Reverend Mr. Edw: Betham and Mrs. Ann Betham, and 
to their Heirs for ever;  And I do hereby make and constitute and 
appoint the said Edw: Betham and Ann Betham Executors of this my 
last Will and Testament In Witness whereof I have hereunto this 
sixth day of February in the year of our Lord one thousand seven 
hundred and forty eight set my hand and Seal _ Geo: Dawson

July 25.1750  Item my will is, in Case my sister Morris does outlive 
me, she be allowed eight Pounds per Ann to be paid out of what I 
dye possessed of during her natural life Witness my hand and seal _

This Will was proved at London with a Codicil annexed the twenty 
second day of July in the year of our Lord one thousand seven 
hundred and fifty five before the Worshipfull Arthur Collier Doctor of 
Laws Surrogate of the Right Honourable Sir George Lee Knight also 
Doctor of Laws Master Keeper or Commissary of the Prerogative 
Court of Canterbury lawfully constituted by the Oaths of Edward 
Betham Clerk and Ann Betham Spinster the Executors named in the 
said Will To whom administration was granted of all and singular the 
Goods Chattels and Credits of the deceased having been first sworn 
duly to administer.
