Will of Robert Rogers C1720 ----1796 In the Name of God Amen I Robert Rogers of Croydon in the County of Surrey Carpenter being of sound and disposition, mind, memory and understanding do make this my last will and testament in manner following that is to say I resign my soul to almighty God who gave it and my body to the earth to be sorority interned in the church yard of Bletchingley in the County of Surrey aforesaid and the expenses of my funeral not to exceed the sum of fifteen pounds. I give and devise unto my loving wife Mary Rogers all my freehold estates and efforts of what nature or kind soever and where spook for and during her term of life, natural life and to receive the rents, issues and profits there of and from and after her decease, I give and devise the same in manner following that is to say I give and devise unto my son Edmund Rogers and Elizabeth his wife or the survivor of them my freehold estate situate lying and being at Willetts Wood in the said County of Surrey co- heirs the same for and during the term of their natural lives and the lives of their child or children lawfully begotten and from and after their decease, I give and devise the same unto my grandsons William Rogers and James Rogers or the survivor of them for and during the term of their natural lives and the lives of their respective wife and wives but if unmarried then and after the decease of the said William Rogers and James Rogers, I give and devise the same unto my next heirs at law for ever. I give and devise unto my son Paul Rogers and Sarah his wife or the survivor of them my three freehold messuages or tenements situate standing and being at the South End of Croydon aforesaid in the several tenements or occupations of myself, my son Robert and lady Mary Carr. and after their decease, I give and devise the same unto the children of my son Paul Rogers namely Samuel and Jacob Read and Robert and their heirs for ever but in case my said grandsons shall die without issue then, after their decease, I give and devise the same unto my next heirs at law and their heirs and assigns for ever . I give and devise unto my daughter Sarah Booth wife of James Booth my four freehold messuages or tenements with all and singular their appointenements situate lying and being at the South End of Croydon aforesaid for and during the term of her natural life and after her decease then I give and devise the house my daughter now occupies being one of the said same freehold houses to her natural daughter Mary Washford for and during the term of her natural life, and to her heirs of her body lawfully begotten for ever, but if the said Mary Washford should die without issue then to go to my next heirs at law . I also give the other three freehold messuages or tenements to my grandson and granddaughters namely James, Elizabeth and Susannah and to their heirs and assigns for ever but if they die without issue then I give and devise the same to my next heirs at law and their heirs for ever . I also give and devise unto my son Robert Rogers and Hannah his wife my four freehold messuages or tenements with their appointenements situate at the South End of Croydon aforesaid and now in the several tenancies or occupations of Joshua Howard, James May, Sophia Paine widow and one of them at this time untenanted, for and during the term of their natural lives and from and after their decease, I give and devise the same unto the five daughters of my said son Robert, namely Elizabeth, Mary, Hannah, Rebecca and Ann and their heirs and assigns for ever, but if none of the children of my said son Robert Rogers shall be living at the time of his decease or to the decease of his said wife Hannah, then mentioned same to go to my next heirs at law and I do hereby nominate, constitute and appoint my said sons Edmund Rogers and Paul Rogers executors of this my last will and testament contained in two sheets of paper to the first of which I have set my hand and to the last my hand and seal this sixth day of April one thousand seven hundred and ninety three hereby replacing all former will and wills by me at any time herebefore made declaring this to be my last will and testament.
