PRO WILL The National Archives HARRISON Robert Perukemaker of Guildford Executed 2 Aug 1808 Proved with Codicil: 6 Apr 1809 In the name of God Amen I Robert HARRISON of Guildford in the County of Surry Perukemaker and Hairdresser being of a sound and disposing mind do make publish and declare this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following that is to say first and principally I recommend my soul to God and my body I direct to the earth to be decently buried by my executors herein after named and as for and [?.. ] my worldly estate and effects I dispose of the same as follows I give and bequeath unto my loving wife Mary HARRISON the sum of fifty pounds of lawful money of Great Britain to be paid her within one month next after my decease Also I give and bequeath unto my said wife Mary Harrison the use of all my household goods furniture and linen now being in and about the Messuage or Tenement wherein I now live And immediately after her decease I direct that the said household goods furniture and linen shall suit into and become part of the residue of my personal estate hereinafter disposed of and also I give and bequeath unto my said Wife the use and occupation of such apartments in my said Messuages or Tenements in which I now live and as she may have occasion for during the term of her natural life in case she shall cause to reside in the same but not otherwise except the Shop and also except the exclusive right of the kitchen which the tenant of the shop for the time being is to have the use of in common with my said Wife in manner herein after mentioned Also I give and bequeath unto my said Wife one annuity or yearly sum of One hundred and Fifty Pounds of lawful money of Great Britain for and during the term of her natural life clear of all Taxes and deductions whatsoever to be hereafter imposed by virtue of any cut or Acts of Parliament the first payment thereof to be made at the end of six Calendar Months next after my decease and I direct my Executors and Trustees herein after named to set apart a sufficient sum out of my personal estate for the payment of the said annuity of one hundred and fifty pounds to my said wife Securities for life clear of all Taxes and Deductions aforesaid and I authorize and empower my said Wife by her Last Will and Testament in writing or any writing in the nature thereof to give and dispose of the sum of Five hundred pounds part of the said sum which shall be so set apart for payment of the said annuity to my said Wife in manner herein before mentioned and which said sum of five hundred pounds I direct my Executors and Trustees to pay in such manner as my said Wife by her said Will or such writing shall direct or appoint and after the Decease of my said Wife Direct my Executors and Trustees hereinafter named to pay unto my Nephew James HARRISON of London the son of my Brother James HARRISON Fifty pounds unto Mary and Elizabeth HARRISON daughters of my said brother James HARRISON Fifty pounds each unto Francis HARRISON another son of my said brother James HARRISON One hundred pounds Unto my niece Ann the wife of William HARRISON STANTON of Ripley in the said County of Surrey Two hundred pounds and unto her sister Elizabeth the wife of William KEEN late of Ripley aforesaid Two hundred pounds unto Mercy HILL wife of [blank] HILL of Lambeth in the said County of Surrey Whitesmith Two hundred and Fifty pounds Unto Rebecca the wife of [blank] HUTTON of Dorking in the same County Basket Maker Two hundred pounds Unto Amelia MASON late Amelia GWIN Two hundred pounds and Unto Frances PRESTIGE late Frances GWIN Two hundred pounds to her parts of the said sum which shall be so set apart for payment of the said annuity to my said wife as aforesaid all which said last mentioned legacies I direct my said Executors to pay within twelve Calendar Months next after the decease of my said Wife and I give and bequeath the residue of the said money which shall be so set apart for payment of the said annuity to my said Wife as aforesaid after payment of the several sums of money therein before mentioned Unto my nephew George GWIN of Ripley in the said County of Surry Barber subject never to access and I do hereby make such residue to give and bequeath to my said nephew George GWIN in manner aforesaid chargeable with the payment of the sum of Five pounds a year to my niece Hannah GWIN during the term of her natural life by two half yearly payments the first payment thereof to be made at the end of six calendar months next after my nephew the said George GWIN shall have such residue paid assigned or transferred to him also subject and chargeable to and with the payment of the sum of Five pounds a year Unto my niece Sophia GWIN during the term of her natural life the same to be paid her at the same time or times as the five pounds last hereto before directed to be paid to her sister the said Hannah GWIN and also subject to and chargeable with the payment of the sum of Ten pounds a year to my nephew Richard SEARLE and [blank] his wife during the term of their natural life the same to be paid to them him or her at the same time or times as the said several sums of five pounds and five pounds are therein before directed to be paid to the said Hannah GWIN and Sophia GWIN also subject to and chargeable with the sum of Two hundred pounds to be equally divided between them among the Widow children or child of the said Richard SEARLE who shall be living at the time of the decease of the said Richard SEARLE or born in such time afterwards to be equally divided between them share and share alike and also subject to and chargeable with the sum of one hundred pounds for and amongst all and every the children or child of the said Hannah GWIN who shall be living at the time of her decease to be equally divided between them share and share alike but if the said Hannah GWIN shall depart this life without leaving any child or children lawfully begotten then my will and meaning is that the said sum of one hundred pounds thereby given to the children or child of the said Hannah GWIN shall be put into and become part of my personal estate herein after disposed of and also subject to and chargeable with the sum of one hundred pounds to and among all and every the lawful children or child of the said Sophia GWIN who shall be living at the time of her decease to be equally divided between them share and share alike but if the said Sophia GWIN shall depart this life without leaving any child or children lawfully begotten then my will and meaning is that the said sum of one hundred pounds hereby given to the lawful children or child of the said Sophia GWIN shall [??] into and become part of the residue of my personal Estate and in case of the decease of my said nephew George GWIN In my life time then I direct my Trustees or Trustee for the time being After the decease of my said wife as aforesaid to pay the said several Annuities to the said Hannah GWIN ~ Sophia GWIN ~ and Richard SEARLE and [blank] his wife and also the said sum of two hundred pounds to and amongst the widow child and children of the said Richard SEARLE and the sum of one hundred pounds to and amongst the child or children of the said Hannah GWIN and the sum of one hundred pounds to and amongst the child or children of the said Sophia GWIN as the case may be in the same manner as my said nephew George GWIN would have been in case he had been living and did the same also I give and bequeath unto my said nephew George GWIN the sum of one hundred pounds over and above what he will receive and by virtue of the bequest herein before made to him by this my will to be paid him at the end of twelve calendar months after my Decease Also I give and bequeath unto William MILES of Guildford aforesaid Peruke maker and now working with me the sum of Twenty pounds to be paid him within six calendar months next after my decease and also give and bequeath unto the said William MILES all my working utensils in my trade or business of a peruke maker and hairdresser and consideration and upon condition that he shall and do assist my Exors in settling my shop accounts and collecting the debts belonging to the same Also I give devise and bequeath unto my brother Henry HARRISON of Guildford aforesaid Carpenter John Peyto SHRUBB of the same place Gentleman and William WHITWORTH of the same place Draper the said Messuage or Tenement Heredits and Premises now in my own occupation and also all that my M/T/H/&P with the appurts hereunto belonging situate lying and being in the Parish of SHALFORD in the said County of Surry and now in the tenure or occupation of George HAM and others and to which I have duly surrendered to the use of my will to hold the same unto the said Henry HARRISON ~ John Peyto SHRUBB ~ William WHITWORTH their heirs Executors Admons and Assigns upon the trusts and to and for their intents and purposes as therein after mentioned expressed and declared of and concerning the same that is to say upon trust that they the said Henry HARRISON ~ John Peyto SHRUBB ~ William WHITWORTH heirs Executors or Admons of such survivor and the survivor and survivors of them or him and shall permit and suffer my said wife to reside in and inhabit such part of the said M/T/H&P now in my own occupation during her natural life if she shall desire so to do as aforesaid and in case she shall not desire to reside therein and or from immediately after the decease of my said wife then upon trust that they my said Trustees or Trustee for the time being shall and do as soon as conveniently may be after the first happening of either of the said events sell and dispose of my said Messuage or Tenement now in my own occupation to the said William MILES if he will purchase the same but if he shall refuse or decline to become the purchaser thereof then I direct my said Trustees or Trustee for the time being to demise and let the same in such manner as they shall [??] proper during the life of my said wife and direct that the rents issues and profits arising there from shall be paid and applied in the same manner as the rents issues and profits of my other freehold estates are here after directed to be paid and applied and after the Decease of my said wife and the respective Decease of my brothers Henry HARRISON ~ William HARRISON ~ and their respective widows if any and my sister Sarah HILLS and her husband if any and my said nephew George GWIN I give and devise the said M/T/H&P unto and wholly between all and every the child or children of my said nephew George GWIN and if but one child then to such only child their or his heirs Executors Admons and Assigns as Tenants in Common not as joint tenants and direct my said Trustees or Trustee for the time being to sell dispose of my said Copyhold Estate at Shalford aforesaid with its appurts as soon after my decease as they conveniently can either by Public auction or Private contract as they shall think proper for the best price or prices that can be had or gotten for the same and for facilitating the sale of the said freehold M/T/H&P in case the same shall be sold to the said William MILES and Copyhold Estate with their several and respective appurts I do direct desire that the receipt or receipts of them my said Trustees or Trustee for the time being under their his or her hands or hand shall be from time to time a good and effectual discharges to the said William MILES if he shall become the purchaser of the said M/T/H&P as also to the purchaser or purchasers of the said Copyhold Estate with their several respective appurtenances hereby authorized and directed to be sold and his her and their respective heirs Executors Admons and Assigns of and for so much of and for so much of the said purchase money as in such receipt or receipts shall be expressed or acknowledged to be received and that after such receipt or receipts shall be so given the said William MILES and such purchaser or purchasers shall be and he she and they shall by virtue thereof shall be absolutely acquitted and discharged of and from the same and shall not be answerable to or accountable for the loss misapplication or non-application of the respective purchase money or any part or parts thereof and I direct that the money arising by such sale or sales of my said M/T/H&P in case the same shall be sold and Copyhold Estate with their several and respective appurts shall suit into and become part of the residue of my personal Estate and Effects hereinafter disposed of and until the sale of the said M/T/H&P and Copyhold Estate with their several and respective appurts authorize and empower my said Trustees or Trustee for the time being to Devise and let the same except the part of the M/T/H&P which shall be in the occupation of my said wife as far as they shall think fit and direct that my said Trustees or Trustee for the time being to apply such parts or part of the rents issues and profits of the said M/T/H&P and Copyhold Estate as shall be sufficient to keep the same in good and sufficient tenantable repair until the same shall be sold and disposed of shall suit into and become part of the residue of my personal Estate and Effects Also I give and devise unto the said Henry HARRISON ~ John Peyto SHRUBB ~ and William WHITWORTH all other my M/T Lands H&P with their and every of their appurtenances to hold the same unto the said Henry HARRISON ~ John Peyto SHRUBB ~ William WHITWORTH their heirs Exors & Admors and Assigns upon the trusts and to and for the uses interests and purposes hereinafter mentioned expressed and declared of and [renouncing?] the same that is to say upon trust that they the said Henry HARRISON ~ John Peyto SHRUBB & William WHITWORTH and the survivors and survivor of them or the heirs Executors or Admors of such survivor do and shall let or demise the said M/T/Land &H/P in such manner and for such time or times as they shall think proper and I direct my said Trustees or Trustee for the time being to pay and apply such part or parts of the rents issues and profits of the said M/T/L&H/P towards keeping the same or such part or parts thereof as shall need or require it in good and sufficient tenantable repair and the residue and remainder of such rents issues and profits I direct my said Trustees or Trustee for the time being to pay unto and equally between my brother the said Henry HARRISON my said brother William HARRISON and my said sister Sarah HILLS the wife of Joseph HILLS and the survivors or survivor of them and if but one shall survive I direct this same to be paid to such survivor for and during the term of their respective natural lives and the life of the survivor of them and in the case of the decease of the said Henry HARRISON William HARRISON or Sarah HILLS or any or either of them leaving a widow or widows or husband as the case may be then and in that case such widow widows or husband shall be entitled to receive such proportion or proportions as he or her husband or husbands or wife would have been respectively entitled to if living and after the decease of the survivor of them the said Henry HARRISON William HARRISON and their respective widow if any and the said Sarah HILLS and her husband if any And I direct my said Trustees or Trustee for the time being to pay such residue and remainder of such rents issues and profits of the said M/T/H L&P of the said M/T/H L&P subject to such repairs as aforesaid unto my said nephew George GWIN over and above which he will receive under and by virtue of the bequests herein before made to him as aforesaid ?.
