I James Ashton of the parish of Saint Olave in Southwark in the  County of Surrey Dealer in 
Cloaths do make and declare this my last will and testament in manner and form following that 
is to say I give and bequeath to my brother Richard Ashton the sum of ten pounds and I give 
devise and bequeath the residue and remainder of my estate and effects both real and 
personal to my loving wife Sarah to have and to hold unto my said wife Sarah her heirs 
executors administrators and assigns respectively to and for her and their proper use and 
benefit and I appoint my said wife sole executrix of this my will in witness whereof I have 
hereunto set my hand and seal this fourth day of April in the year of our Lord one thousand 
seven hundred and sixty three - James Ashton (SS) - Signed sealed published and declared by 
the said James Ashton as and for his last will and testament in the presence of us who have 
subscribed our hands as witness thereto at his request in his presence and in the presence of 
each other Chris'n Burgin ~ John Churchill Catlett ~

This Will was proved at London on the second day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand 
seven hundred and sixty three before the worshipful George Harris Doctor of Laws and 
Surrogate of the Right Worshipful Sir Edward Simpson Knight also Doctor of Laws Master 
Keeper or Commissary of the Prerogative Court of Canterbury lawfully constituted by the oath 
of Sarah Ashton widow the relict of the said deceased and sole executrix named in the said will 
to whom administration of the goods chattels and credits of the said deceased was granted she 
having been first sworn duly to administer.
