This is the last Will and Testament of me John Stedman formerly of Wandsworth in 
the Country of Surrey Schoolmaster afterwards of  Leatherhead in the said County 
and now of Guildford in the same County Gentleman first I direct that my body be 
decently interred in Godalming Church Yard as near as possible to my ancestors 
and I also direct that all my just debts and funeral and testamentary expenses be 
fully paid and satisfied as soon as conveniently may be after my decease I give and 
devise unto my Daughter Elizabeth the wife of my nephew the Reverend John 
Stedman of Wandsworth aforesaid Master of Arts all that messuage or tenement or 
dwelling house Garden hereditaments and  premises in which I now live situate and 
being at Guildford aforesaid and which I purchased of Peter Lafosse Esquire and 
also all that Stable and  ??? of a woodhouse and piece or parcel of Ground 
Hereditaments and premises which I purchased of Mr. Job Smallpiece To hold the 
same unto her my said Daughter Elizabeth Stedman her heirs and assigns for ever 
also I give and bequeath unto her my said daughter Elizabeth Stedman my Cabinet 
of  fossils and shells coins mathematical and philosophical instruments watches 
clocks and all my household  goods and other goods both within doors and without 
furniture pictures linen  woollen china wine and other liquors which shall be in or 
about my Dwelling House at the time of my decease  Also I give and bequeath unto 
my son-in law and Nephew the said John Stedman the sum of one thousand pounds 
to be paid to him within six months after my decease  Also I give and bequeath unto 
my niece Ann Stedman the sum of ten pounds for mourning to be paid her as soon 
as conveniently may be after my decease   Also I give and bequeath unto my said 
Daughter said Elizabeth Stedman the said John Stedman Elizabeth the wife of 
James Bogue of Guildford aforesaid Gentleman the said James Bogue my nephew 
Richard Stedman of Godalming aforesaid Clock and Watchmaker Bookseller and 
Stationer and Margaret his wife Richard Sharp of Park Lane in the County of 
Middlesex Esquire and George Adams Davis of Mansion House Place in the City of 
London Merchant a mourning ring also I give and bequeath unto the said John 
Stedman Richard Stedman and James Bogue the sum of fifty pounds each for their 
trouble in the execution of this my will  All the rest residue and remainder of my 
estate and effects whatsoever and wheresoever and of what nature or kind the same 
may be or consist at the time of my decease I give and bequeath the same unto the 
said John Stedman Richard Stedman and James Bogue upon trust that they the said 
John Stedman Richard Stedman and James Bogue and the survivors or survivor of 
them and the executors administrators of such survivors do and shall as soon as 
conveniently may be after my decease convert part thereof as is not already in 
money into money and do and shall lay out and invest the monies arising therefrom 
in their own names in the public Stocks or funds or other Government Securities or 
on real or other Securities at Interest and do and shall pay the Interest Dividends and 
yearly product of the said Stocks Funds and Securities to my said Daughter 
Elizabeth Stedman for and during the term of her natural life and from and after her 
decease I direct my said son-in-law and Nephew John Stedman to reinvest and take 
the Interest Dividends and yearly product of the said Stocks Funds and Securities to 
and for his own use and benefit for and during the term of his natural life and from 
and after the decease of the survivor of them my said Daughter Elizabeth Stedman 
and my said in law and nephew John Stedman I direct that they the said Richard 
Stedman and James Bogue and the survivor of them and the executors and 
administrators of such survivor do and shall pay assign and transfer the said Stocks 
Funds and Securities and any Interest Dividends and product thereof which may be 
remaining in their hands unto and equally between all and every the child and 
children of my said Daughter Elizabeth Stedman as and when they shall attain the 
respective ages of twenty one years and to their respective executors admons and 
assigns and I do hereby declare that it shall and may be lawful to and for the trustees 
or trustee for the time being of this my will from time to time at their or his discretion 
to call in and reinvest the said trust monies or to transfer or dispose of the Stocks 
Funds or Securities wherever the same or any part thereof shall be from time to time 
invested and to lay out and invest the same or the monies to arise by the sale 
thereof at Interest in such Government or real or other securities as they my said 
trustees or trustee for the time being shall think proper and to alter vary and transfer 
the said Securities from time to time for any other Securities as occasion shall 
require and I declare and direct that if the said John Stedman Richard Stedman and 
James Bogue or any or other of them shall die or refuse or  decline or become 
incapable to act in the trusts of this my will then and in that case a new trustee or 
trustees may be appointed by the surviving or continuing trustees or trustee in the 
??? or stead of the trustee or trustees so dying declining or becoming incapable to 
act as aforesaid and the said trust monies and  premises shall be transferred and 
assigned so as to be vested in such ???  and such surviving or continuing trustees 
or trustee upon the same trusts and with the same powers as are hereinbefore 
mentioned and declared and so from time to time as often as the same shall happen 
and I do hereby further declare and direct that the said trustees hereby nominated 
and appointed and any future trustee or trustees which may hereafter be nominated 
and appointed shall be charged and chargeable only for such monies as they shall 
respectively actually receive by virtue of the trusts hereby in them reposed or 
notwithstanding their or any or either of their giving signing or joining in any receipt or 
receipts for the sake of conformity and any one or more of them shall not be 
answerable or accountable for the others or other of them but each and every of 
them only for his and their own acts receipts neglects or defaults respectively and 
that they or any of them shall not be answerable or accountable for any Banker 
Broker or other person with whom or in or to whose hands any part of the said trust 
monies and premises shall or may otherwise come in the execution of the said trusts 
hereinbefore mentioned nor for the insufficiency or deficiency of any security or 
securities stocks or funds in or upon which the said trust monies or premises or any 
part thereof shall be placed out or invested in pursuance of this my will nor for any 
other misfortune loss or damage which shall or may happen in the execution of the 
aforesaid trusts or in relation thereto except the same shall happen by or through 
their own willful defaults respectively and I also direct that it shall and may be lawful 
to and for them the said John Stedman Richard Stedman and James Bogue and the 
survivors and survivor of them and the executors and administrators of such survivor 
by and out of the monies which shall come to their respective hands by virtue of this 
my will to retain to and reimburse themselves and himself respectively and also to 
allow to each other all costs or charges damages and expenses which they or any or 
either of them shall or may be put unto in or about the execution of this my will or in 
relation thereto and I hereby revoke all former and other will and wills by me at any 
time heretobefore made and declare this to be and contain my only last will and 
Testament and lastly I hereby make nominate and appoint the said John Stedman 
Richard Stedman and James Bogue Executors of this my last will and Testament in 
Witness whereof I the said John Stedman the testator have to this my last Will and 
Testament contained in four sheets of paper to the three first sheets thereof set my 
hand and to the fourth and last sheet thereof set my hand and seal the twenty-third 
day of June in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty-five J.

testator as and for his last Will and Testament in the presence of us who in his 
presence at his request and in the presence of each other have subscribed our

& Surrogate by the oaths of the Rev’d John Stedman Clerk and Richard Stedman 
Esq the Nephews and James Bogue Esquire the Executors to whom admon was 
granted being first sworn duly to admin.
