In the name of God Amen I Ephraim Bothell of Dorkinge in the County of Surrey 
Leatherdresser being sicke in bodie but of good and perfect memorie praise be God 
doe make and ordaine this my Last will and Testament hereby revokinge all former 
willes by me made and ordained in manner and forme followinge ffirst I comend my 
soule into the handes of God my Almighty Creator and Redeemer And my bodie I comit 
to the earth from whence it was taken to be buried att the discrecion of myne Executrix 
hereafter named And these worldlie goodes wherewithall it hath pleased god to endowe 
me I give Will and bequeath as followeth Item I give and bequeath All the rentes proffitts 
and Comodities of all my houses and landes with their appurtenance lying in the parishe 
of Darkinge And that all my house and landes called Lodgmore in the Lordshipp of 
Westgate in Dorkinge aforesaid unto my wellbeloved Wife Susan Bothell duringe her 
naturall Life,And after her naturall Life is ended My will is That the said howse with the 
fowre tenements thereunto belonging in the West Street of Dorkinge aforesaid with the 
Orchard Barne Stable backsides with the proffitts and appurtenances thereunto 
belonging shall go unto Ephraim Bothell my second sonne unto whom I doe bequeath 
and will them If that the said Ephraim Bothell outlive his mother Susan Bothell aforesaid 
and the said Ephraim have Issue then I give the aforesaid house I now dwell in with the 
tenements and premises Last Expressed and with the appurtenences aforsaid and to 
the heires of his bodie lawfully begotten forever conditionally that my said Sonne 
Ephraim Doe paie unto my eldest sonne John Bothell and his five Children Ephraim 
John Jeane Susan and Elizabeth Bothell the Severall Somes of twentie pounds apeece 
of Currant English money when they shall accomplish and attain their severall ages of 
Twentie and one yeares apeece If soe be his mother Susan be then before dead or 
departed from life but if the said Susan be then or afterwards alive Then my said sonne 
Ephraim shall not paie the said severall legacies of twentie pounds apeece to his 
Brother John Bothell's children untill one whole yeare next after the Decease of the said 
Susan his mother aforesaid And if any of thjose five children depart thro their naturall 
Life before their age of one and twentie yeares Then my will is that the Legacies of them 
for dead Shalbe equally divided amongst them that are Livinge but if it shall fall out that 
this my sonne Ephraim Bothell dye without issue and before his mother Susan Then I 
will and bequeath unto Susan my wife the aforesaid house I nowe dwell in together with 
the aforesaid fowre tenements Orchard barne Stable backsides with The appurtenances 
thereunto belonging forever And then my Will is that shee shall paie the aforesaid one 
hundred pounds given before to my sonne John Bothell's children and in the same 
manner that my sonne Ephraim should have paid the same if hee had been Livyng And 
Shee shall accordinge to her discretion order and dispose of the same Howses with 
their appurtenances to whom shee pleaseth Item I will and bequeath unto my eldest 
Sonne John Bothell one hundred poundes of currant English money to be paid within 
one whole yeare after my decease Item I will & bequeath unto my Sonne Ephraim 
Bothell one hundred poundes to be paid within one whole yeare after my decease if the 
said Ephraim be then living but if he be dead within the yeare after my Decease or that 
he shall depart this his life in any sooner determination Then my Will is that my 
Executrix shall paie but the Some of twentie poundes to whom myu said sonne Ephraim 
shall think fitt to nominate to receive the same within one halfe yeare after my decease 
item I give & bequeath unto my sonne William Bothell one hundred poundes of like 
currant English money to be paid within one yeare and a halfe after my decease if my 
said sonne William be then Livinge item I give and bequeath unto my sonne Thomas 
Bothell and his heires forever my howse and Landes called Lodgmore in the Lordshipp 
of Westgate in Dorkinge aforesaid after the death of his mother but if the said Susan his 
mother doth outlive this my sonne Thomas and that the said Thomas doe dy without 
issue Then my Will is that Susan my Wife shall have the said house and landes called 
Lodgemore with the appurtenances thereunto for the only good and benefit of those my 
children which shee seeth to stand in most neede of helpe Item I alsoe will and 
bequeath unto my sonne Samuell Bothell my younger sonne an hundred poundes of 
like currant English money to be paid when hee shall accomplish the age of fowre and 
twentie yeares Item I will and bequeath unto my Daughter Susan Bothell the Some of 
fiftie poundes of Currant English money to be paid within one whole yeare after my 
decease Item I will and give unto my Daughter Sarah Bothell fiftie poundes of currant 
english money to be paid att her one and twentie yeares of age or day of marriage 
which shall first happen to come to passe Item Item I give and bequeath unto my 
Daughter Jane Bothell the like sum of fiftie poundes of currant English money to be paid 
att her date of marriage or att her age of twenty and one yeares which shall first happen 
to come to passe Item I also give and bequeath unto the poore of Dorkinge the some of 
tenn shillinges to bee paid by Susan my wellbeloved wife according to her discretion 
And all the rest of my goods Chattells Bondes Billes and Debtes oweing unto me or in 
any waies to me belonging and not before given willed bequeathed or disposed of and 
my debtes and legacies being paied and satisfyed I doe will and give them all unto my 
beloved Wife Susan Bothell aforesaid whom I make and appointe to be my whole and 
sole executrix of this my last Will and Testament And last of all I doe intreat my Lovinge 
friendes Benjamin Ridge Henrie Paine John Heather and Henry Gosden to bee the 
Overseersof this my last will and Testament and I give and bequeath unto every one of 
them three shillinges and fowre pence apeece for their further advise and help of my 
Executrix concerninge the dewe performance and execution hereof And in further 
witness of this my own Acte and Deed I doe hereby sett my and seale this present Day 
being the last Daie of March Anno Domini 1638 Ephraim Bothell
