TRANSCRIPTION OF THE WILL OF RACHEL WRIGHT This is the last Will and Testament of me Rachel Wright of Witney in the County of Oxford Gentlewoman made this sixth day of April in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty four as follows I give and bequeath all my money securities for money and personal property and effects of every description and wherever situate unto Henry Clarke Salmon of Witney aforesaid Bankers Clerk and Robert Hockley Bullen of Bampton in the said County of Oxford Gentleman upon trust in the first place thereout to pay all my just debts funeral and testamentary expenses then to retain to themselves five guineas each as a mark of my respect then to pay to my nephew John Dix of Witney aforesaid Maltster the sum of fifty pounds free of legacy duty then to invest the sum of eight hundred pounds at interest either on Government securities or on mortgage of freehold or leasehold property in England or Wales of sufficient value and to accumulate the dividends or interest thereof and from time to time to invest the same in like manner until the then youngest surviving child of my late niece Mary Ann Druce namely Joseph Druce Thomas Dix Druce James Ricketts Druce and John Allen Druce shall attain the age of twenty one years and upon such youngest child attaining that age upon trust to pay share and equally divide the said principal sum and all such accumulations unto and amongst such four children equally and in case of the death of any one or more of them before the period of division shall arrive then the share of him or them so dying shall belong to the survivors or survivor of them and so of any accruing share or shares but in case all such children should die before the said period of division shall arrive then I direct my said Trustees to pay share and equally divide the said principal sum and accumulations as follows one half thereof unto and equally between the children of my nephew John Wright and the remaining half thereof unto and equally between the children of my niece Elizabeth Watts to be paid to them as they shall respectively attain the age of twenty one years and in case of the death of any one or more under that age then the share of him her or them so dying shall go and belong to the survivors or survivor of the brothers and sisters or brother or sister of such deceased legatees or legatee and so of any accruing share or shares as to all the rest residue and remainder of my said personal property I direct my said trustees to convert the same into money and invest the same in the manner hereinbefore directed and to pay the interest or dividends thereof as follows namely one half thereof to my said niece Elizabeth Watts for her life to be paid into her own proper hands only entirely free from the control debts or engagements of her present or any future husband and for which her script alone when and as the same becomes due and not by way of anticipation shall be the only proper discharge and upon her decease upon trust to divide the principal money unto and equally between all her children in the same manner at the same time and with the like trusts as to survivorship and accruing shares as hereinbefore directed with respect to the moiety of the said eight hundred pounds and accumulations if the same should become divisible amongst them and as to the remaining half part of the said interest upon trust to pay the same unto my said nephew John Wright during his life and upon his decease upon trust to divide the principal money unto and equally between all his children in the same manner at the same time and with the like trusts as to survivorship and accruing shares as hereinbefore directed with respect to the moiety of the said eight hundred pounds and accumulations if the same should become divisible amongst them I appoint the said Henry Clarke Salmon and Robert Hockley Bullen Joint Executors of this my will hereby revoking all former and other wills by me at any time heretofore made and declare that the one of them shall not be answerable for the other of them but each of them for himself only and his own respective acts deeds receipts neglects and wilful defaults only provided always and I empower my trustees and executors herein named or the trustees and executors for the time being of my will in case they should think my sister Mrs Ann Dix of Witney has not a sufficient income for her support in comfort to apply this whole or any portion of the income of all my property for her support during her life and in that case the bequests hereinbefore in my will contained shall be postponed until her decease or the sooner determination of the payment to her as the case may be and I declare that the discretion of my said trustees and executors in this matter shall be absolute and under no control whatever and that they alone shall be the sole judges of the expediency of the payments to my said sister On witness whereof I the said Rachel Wright the testatrix hath to this my last will and testament contained in three sheets of paper set my hand the day and year first before written Rachel Wright ----- signed
