the twenty fifth Day of October in the third year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord George 
the second by the Grace of God of Great Britain France and Ireland King Defender of the 
faith ~ anno Domini 1729 I Elizabeth Sturt of Banbury in the County of  Oxon. Spinster 
being of sound and disposing mind memory and understanding do make and ordain this my 
present last will and Testament in manner and form following first and principally I bequeath 
my Soul into the hands of Almighty God my Creator trusting in his mercy for the pardon of 
my sins through the merits of Jesus Christ my Saviour and redeemer and my body I commit to 
the Earth of which it was made to be decently interred at the discretion of my Executors 
herein after named and my will is that there shall not be above twenty pounds expended on 
my funeral and for my worldly Estate which it hath pleased God to bless me with I give and 
dispose thereof  as followeth Imprimis my Will is that all my just debts shall be paid by my 
Executor herein after named Item I Give and Bequeath to Mrs Mellor Harris and Mrs 
Elizabeth Bard each broad piece of Gold of twenty five shillings  Item I Give and Bequeath 
to Mr Stephen Davies Minister of the Presbyterian Congregation in Banbury aforesaid 
the sum of twenty pounds that it is to say ten pounds of it for his own proper and private use 
the other ten pounds to be by him put out to Interest and the profits of it to attend to him 
whilst he continueth as a Minister in Banbury aforesaid and after his decease my will is that 
the Interest of the said ten pounds shall be paid yearly to the minister that shall succeed him in 
the said Congregation to which he now belongeth  Item I Give and Bequeath to Mrs Martha 
Davies Daughter of the said Stephen Davies Thirty pounds my silver watch and little 
Drawers  Item I Give to Mr Bard Davies son of the said Stephen Davies Ten pounds Item I 
Give and Bequeath to my cousin Anne Smith the sum of Eighty pounds and some of my best 
Clothes Item I Give to my cousin Mary Berith Ten pounds and some of my clothes and I do 
forgive her and her husband all the money they owe me on bond or  otherwise Item I Give 
unto my cousin Brabden Hart the sum of one hundred pounds Item to his father Robert 
Hart a Gold Ring value Twenty shillings Item I Give to my cousin Hannah Reynolds the 
sum of Fifty pounds and some of my best Clothes  Item I Give to Mrs Anne Davies wife of 
the said Stephen Davies three broad pieces of Gold value three pounds and nine Shillings 
and to her son John Youish one broad piece of Gold value twenty five Shillings Item I Give 
to the Revd, Mr. John Troughton Minister of Bissiter (Bicester), the Reverend Mr. 
Bushnell Minister in Potterspury, the Reverend Mr. Handstock minister in Bloxham 
twenty Shillings a piece Item I Give the servant maid that shall live in the house of the said 
Stephen Davies at the time of my decease ten shillings and the same of my ordinary Cloaths 
and if it shall pleaseth I should depart this life in Banbury aforesaid it is my will to be buryed 
in the Church or Chapel and I desire a handsome stone maybe laid upon me the expense of 
opening the Ground the stone with the Inscription upon it not exceed five pounds which is not 
to be deducted out of the twenty pounds allowed for my funeral and my will further is that my 
Executor herein after named shall have one years time allowed after my decease for the 
payment of the several and respective Legacies herein before bequeathed given or mentioned 
lastly all the rest residue and remainder of my Estate real and personal Goods Chattels 
whatsoever and wheresoever unbequeathed after my Debts Legacies and funeral Expenses are 
paid and discharged  I give and bequeath unto the said Stephen Davies whom I do make 
constitute ordaine and appoint Sole Executor of this my last Will and Testament and I do 
hereby revoke dissan null and make void all and every other will and wills here before by me 
made ratifying and confirming this and none other to be my last will and Testament  In 
witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the day and the year first above written. 
Elizabeth Sturt  signed sealed published and declared by the said Elizabeth Sturt as her 
last Will and Testament in the presence of us who have subscribed our names as Witnesses in

Probatum [This is as best as I can translate the Latin] This Will was proved at London the 
twenty fourth Day of April the year of our Lord One thousand Seven hundred and Thirty 
before the Right Worshipful John Bettesworth Doctor of Laws Master Keeper of Company of 
the Prerogative Court of Canterbury lawfully constituted by the oath of Stephen Davies the 
Sole Executor named in the said Will to whom Administration was Granted of all and 
singular the Goods Chattels and Credits of the said deceased she having been first sworn by
