This is the Last Will and Testament of me Edward Baylis of Banbury in the county of 
Oxford, stonecutter. First I will that all my just debts funeral expenses and the 
charges of proving this my Will be first paid and satisfied. Also I give and bequeath to 
my dear good friend Mary Hughes of Banbury aforesaid widow to whom I do so 
hereby declare to have a very great tender and sincere regard and value for her 
tender regard and esteem which she has always shown towards me the sum of fifty 
pounds of lawful money of Great Britain which I do hereby humbly beg and entreat 
her to accept and take as my poor acknowledgment of the regard and friendship I 
profess for her and which my will and mind is shall be paid her within six months 
after my decease and I do hereby most humbly entreat and request my executor 
hereafter named to pay her the said Mary Hughes the said sum of fifty pounds 
before any other legatee by me so hereafter mentioned . Also I give and bequeath to 
my brother Nathaniel Baylis the sum of ten pounds which I will shall be paid him 
within twelve months after my decease. Also I give and bequeath to my said brother 
Nathaniel Baylis all my wearing apparel whatsoever both Linen and Woollen that he 
chuses to accept and take. Also I give unto my sister Elizabeth Edmunds the Wife of 
William Edmunds the sum of five pounds. All the rest and residue of all my estates 
whatsoever and of what sort ? the same is or shall be or wheresoever the same shall 
be situate lying an being at the time of my decease I give devise and bequeath to my 
father Edward Baylis his heirs executors and administrators and I do hereby make 
ordain nominate constitute and appoint my said father Edward Baylis sole executor 
of this my Last Will and Testament provided he so proves the same according to law 
and my due intent and meaning either in the Perogative Court of Canterbury or some 
other proper Ecclesiastical Court within one month after my decease and before the 
same be proved that he my said executor do give to the said Mary Hughes his Bond 
or such other  security as she thinks proper to take for the due payment of the said 
sum of fifty pounds by me to her before given and bequeathed within six months 
after my demise according to the intention of this my will and in case the said 
Edward Baylis my said executor do and shall refuse to prove this my Will and take 
upon him the burthen and execution thereof before the end of one month after my 
decease and  give to the said Mary Hughes such Bond and security for the due 
payment of the said sum of Fifty pounds so by me hereby given and bequeathed to 
her  and by me hereinbefore directed to be paid within six months after my decease 
that then and in that case I do hereby declare that the request of the residue of my 
estates so bequeathed to my said father Edward Baylis shall be null and void and of 
non effect and then and in that case I do hereby devise and bequeath all the rest and 
residue of my said Estates both real and personal so by me hereinbefore mentioned 
to be given devised and bequeathed to my said father the said Edward Baylis unto 
the said Mary Hughes her heirs executors and administrators  and I do then 
nominate constitute and appoint my said dear friend Mary Hughes sole executrix of 
this my Last Will and Testament and I do revoke all former wills by me heretofore 
made and I do declare this and no other to be my Last Will and Testament. In 
witness whereof I the said Testator  Edward Baylis have hereunto set my hand and 
seal this seventh day of May in the year of Our Lord one thousand seven hundred 
and sixty seven.  Edward Baylis signed sealed published and declared by the said 
testator Edward Baylis as and for his Last Will and Testament in the presence of us 
who have at his request and in his presence subscribed our names as witnesses to

  This will was proved at London on the sixth day of June in the year of Our Lord One 
thousand seven hundred and sixty seven before the Right Worshipful George Day 
Doctor of Laws Master Keeper or Commissary of the prerogative Court of 
Canterbury lawfully constituted by the oath of Edward Baylis the executor named in 
the said will to whom administration of all and singular the Goods Chattels and 
credits of the deceased was granted he having been first sworn by Commission duly 
to administer
