NRO Ref: Y 183. Will dated 20th October 1593 Probate 22nd November 1593. In the name of God Amen. I Thomas WILLES of Loos Weedon in the county of Northampton, husbandman sick in body yet of perfect memory, thanks be to god, do make this my last will and testament in form as followeth. First I bequeath my soul to almighty god and my body to be buried in the church of Weedon, I bequeath to the mother church of Peterborough 4 pence. Item, I give to Jane my daughter either 10 pounds or else the one half of all my crop which ? of my farm at Weedon for the space of six years from the day of her marriage to the end of those six years after my death if in my life time they be not expired. Item, I give to Elizabeth my daughter 10 pounds to be paid to her two years after my departure. Item, I give to Katherine my daughter 2 kine and a bullock to the value of 5 pounds and unto the said Katherine a house dwelling for life in the occupation of Thomas BULLOCK, paying to my son the six pence yearly for the rent. I also give to Katherine a table, a frame, a bedstead, a cupboard in BULLOCK’s house, a testern of a bed in BULLOCK’s house. Item, I give to Huthome HOPKINS, my daughters son the sum of 20 shillings to be paid at the age of 21 years. Item, I give to the poor of Woodford also a quarter of maslin to be baked and so distributed amongst them. Item, I give to Thomas WEBB who was my fathers servant 3 shillings 4 pence. Item, I give to the poor of the parish of Weedon at my burial 6 shillings to be bestowed in victuals amongst them. The rest of my goods unbequeathed I give to my son Thomas WILLS whom I do make my full executor of this my last will and testament, in witness whereof I have set to my hand and seal the 20th day of October in the 35th year of the reign of our Sovereign Lady queen Elizabeth, by the grace of god of England, France and Ireland queen.
