NRO Ref: L. 154. Will dated 15th February 1558 (1557/58) Probate 19th April 1558. In the name of God Amen. Anno Domini 1558 1 15th day of February. I Thomas KENNINGE of Weston in the parish of Weedon Pinckney, husbandman whole of mind and perfect remembrance make this my last will and testament in manner and from following. First I bequeath my soul unto almighty god, and to our lady Saint Mary and to all the holy company of heaven and my body to be buried in the churchyard of Weedon aforesaid and I also give to the mother church of Peterborough 2 pence. Also I give to my wife Annes KENNINGE the house that I dwell in with all the appurtenances thereto belonging both in the town and fields during her life, making all manner of repairs, paying no rent and after the decease of my wife I give the said house with all manner of appurtenances thereto belonging both in town and fields to Thomas HARRES and to Edmonde HARRES for the space of 6 years. keeping all manner of repairs, paying yearly 3 shillings 4 pence to them, and if the said Thomas HARRES depart the world before the 6 years be expired then the said house with all remaining to Thomas KENNINGE son of James KENNINGE and his heirs. Also I give to Margaret HARRES in money or money worth 5 pounds. Also I give to Jane HARRES in money or money worth 5 pounds and a cow, 20 sheep. Also I give to Richard KENNiNGE and to Thomas KENNINGE my brothers either of them 2 strikes of mill corn and 2 strikes of malt to be paid yearly during the lives by them that dwell in my house and the one half to be paid at Christmas and the other half at Easter and if Annes my wife shall [live] 6 years she shall give to Thomas paying my sisters son 6 sheep and if she die within 6 years then it shall be at my wifes discretion. And I owe to Sir Thomas FOX vicar of Weedon Pinckney l6 pence. And I give to the bells 2 shillings 4 pence. Also I will that William GREY my tenant shall have the cottage house that he dwelleth in during his life, paying the rent, making repairs. Also I make my whole executrix my wife Annes KENNINGE and I make overseers of my will John ATKYNS of Weston and John KENNINGE of Eydon my brother and they to have for their paines taking 20 pence a piece. The rest of my goods not bequeathed. my debts paid I give to Annies KENNINGE my wife, these being witness. John ATKYNS and William HALL with other moo. Probate 19th April 1558.
