Roger BENBOWE of Weston Will dated 28th March 1600. Probate 17th April 1600 In the name of God Amen. I Roger BENBOWE of Weston in the parish of Weedon Pinckney being sick in body but of good and perfect memory thanks be unto god for it, do make and ordain this my last will and testament in manner and form following. First, I give and bequeath my soul unto god my maker and my body to be buried in the earth from whence it was taken. Item, I give unto Margaret my daughter 6 pounds 13 shillings 4 pence to be paid unto her at the age of 21 years. Item, I give unto Elizabeth my daughter 6 pounds 13 shillings 4 pence to be paid unto her at the age of 21 years. Item, I give unto my daughter Jane 20 shillings at the age of 21 years. Item, I give unto my sons George and John five pounds apiece to be paid unto them at the age of 21 years and to every of my four children (Jane excepted) one sheep apiece, neither of the best nor of the worst and William my son to have six couples of ewes and lambs to his own use. Item, My will is that if Ellen ,my wife do marry again that then she shall have 10 pounds of lawful English money paid unto her by my son William and so to take one of her children and so to depart and go her way, and that my said wife shall if she live and continue in the house to her lives end unmarried that then she shall have 10 pounds to give and bestowe at her pleasure equally among her children being four (Jane excepted). Item, If it please god to call my son William before he marry then he to give at his pleasure 10 pounds among his brethren and sisters. And if it please god to call any of my said children before the times appointed then their portions to be equally divided among the rest of them. Item, I give unto John WOOD the younger an hoggrill or young sheep, presently to be delivered. Item, I give unto the poor of the parish where most need is 2 shillings. The residue of all my goods unbequeathed I give unto Ellen my wife and William my son whom I do make and ordain my full and whole Executors of this my last will and do appoint my wellbeloved friends John ADKINS and Richard HALL my overseers of this my will and do give unto either of them for their pains 12 pence. Item, I give unto my godson John BAYLEY 4d, In witness whereof I have set unto my hand the 28th day of March in the year of our lord god 1600. Item, I do give unto my daughter Margaret one black cowe bullock being two years old to be delivered presently after any debts owing by Roger BENBOWE. Imprimis, Unto Alexander WOOD 5 pounds.
