NRO Ref: N 229. Will dated 8th July 1557. ProbateV July 1557. (sic) In the name of God Amen, Anno Domini 1557 8th day month July. I Robert WILLS of Weston, husbandman in the parish of Weedon Pinckney of whole mind and perfect remembrance make my last will in form ensuing. First, I bequeath my soul to god, our Lady Saint Mary and to all the holy company of heaven and my body to be buried in the church (yard struck through) of Weedon aforesaid in the middle space and for lying there near top pew in I give to the church 3 shillings 4 pence. Also I give to the mother church 4 pence. Item, I give to John WILLS my son, to Robert WILLS my son, to Elizabeth WILLS my daughter, to Cecily WILLS my daughter and to Catherine WILLS my daughter, every one of them 10 pounds a piece and the one half of the same sum to be delivered unto my said daughters at the days of their marriage and the other half to be delivered within 2 years after, and my said sons John WILLS and Robert WILLS when they shall come to the age of 21 years shall have every year 10 pounds a piece that the said sum of 10 pounds a piece be fully paid and if it shall please god to do his will by any of my said children, either son or daughter before the time aforesaid then the said bequest shall remain to them that live. And I give to John CHAMBERLEYN the elder 6 pence, to Clement CHAMBERLEYN 6 pence, to William PERRIN 12 pence, to Jone CHAMBERLEYNE 6 pence, to Pacesbe PETE VER 6 pence, Jone MAYO 6 pence, to Thomas HATTON’s wife 6 pence, to William HUCNELL 6 pence, to Robert OXLEY 6 pence, to Richard ALSOPE 6 pence and to William GRAY 6 pence. Also I will have at my burial Mr VICAR of Woodford, Mr LEESON of Plumpton, Mr LEESON Bradden, Mr LEESON of Slapton, Mr WOTTON and Sir John of Morton and every priest shall have for his pains taking 12 pence, and I will have at my monthly mind 3 strike of malt and 3 strike of corn to make bread and drink for the life to be drinken, and I give to Isabell BULL my goddaughter either a strike of malt or a strike of maslen at the day of her marriage, and I give to every godchild that I have 4 pence, and I make my executors Thomas WILLS my son and Ellen WILLS my wife, and I make overseers of my will Thomas WARD and George TAYLER and they to have for their pains taking 20 pence a piece. The rest of my goods not bequeathed, my debts paid and my burial done I give to Thomas WILLS my son and to Ellen WILLS my wife. Witnesses, John ADKINS, William PERRIN and Patrick PETE VER.
