NRO Ref: L 34. Will dated 26th July 1551 Probate 30th September 1551 In the name of God Amen, the year of our lord god 1551, the 26th day of July. I John GREY of the parish of Weedon Pinckney, husbandman of whole mind and perfect remembrance make my last will in manner ensuing. First I bequeath [my soul] to god, to our Lady Saint Mary And to all the holy company of heaven And my body to be buried within the church yard of Weedon aforesaid by my mother. Also I bequeath to Thomas GREY my son 2 stores, a red halkede [hawkeye] and a red of 3 years old, a greybald horse colt of three years old, 2 ewe, 2 lambs, 2 hoggsell, a?, a sheard, a pair of caynes, a yowke, a blanket, a mattress, a pair of hempen sheets, a bolster, a pillow, a? dublet, my next best coop, my next best hose, 2 ? and 20 shillings in money when he is 20 years old. Also I give to Elizabeth GREY my daughter a black heifer of three years old and a brown heifer of 2 years old, 2 ewes, 2 lambs, 2 hoggsell, a mattress, a coverlet, a bolster, a pillow, 2 hyves, 2 ? ? and 60 shillings in money. Also I give to Jane GREY my daughter a red pied heifer of a year old and my wife Jane GREY and Robert GREY my son shall deliver to the said Jane GREY another bullock of 2 years old at the least and 2 ewes, 2 lambs, 2 hoggsell and 2 hyves,2 new platters, a mattress, a coverlet, a bolster, a pillow and 40 shillings in money. Also I will that my wife Jane GREY and Robert GREY my son shall deliver to Elizabeth GREY and Jane GREY my daughters, either of them a pan or a kettle with 13 shillings 4 pence a piece in money. Also I will that my son Robert GREY shall give to Thomas GREY my son a tire that lack the 5 strakes and my wife Jane GREY and Robert GREY my son shall undo the strakes that lack and buy a pair of wheels of their choice for the said strakes. And I give to every godchild that I have 4 pence. And if it chance any of my children to depart the world before they be married the said bequests shall remain amongst them that live. Also I give to the mother church of Peterborough 4 pence. Also I do give to the repair of the parish church of Weedon aforesaid for the ? of the same 6 shillings 8 pence to be prayed for. Also I will have at my monthly mind amongst the parish of Weedon aforesaid to be prayed for 5 strike of wheat and 5 strike of barley malt, and I will have at my burial the parson of Plumpton and the vicar of Weedon aforesaid and they to have for their pains taking 8 pence a piece. And if it chance my wife Jane GREY to marry again then she shall have 8 shillings 4 pence in money yearly during her life and all her own? of goods and she marry not she shall have half? with Robert GREY my son both of lands and goods during her life. Also I give to William GREY my brother 2 strike of wheat and 2 strike of malt. Also I give to Robert GREY my son my best cote, my buckskin dublet and my best hose. Also I give to Robert EPTON my brother in law a strike of wheat and a strike of malt. Also I will that all my plough timber shall be equally divided between Robert GREY and Thomas GREY my sons. Also I give to my brother William GREY’s two children both ? either of them a sheep, ewe or hoggsells, to be delivered at michaelmas next to come, of the middle sort. And I give to Jone EPTON and to Margaret EPTON children to Robert EPTON either of them a sheep, ewe or hoggsell of the middle sort, to be delivered at martylmas next to come. Also I give to the poor mens box 12 pence. The rest of my goods not bequeathed my debts paid and my burial done, I give to Jane GREY my wife and to Robert GREY my son whom I ordain, constitute and make my executors and I make overseers to see this my last will performed Mr Richard COLLES of Preston on the Hill and Sir Thomas FOX vicar of Weedon Pinckney and either of them to have for their pains taking 3 shillings 4 pence. And also I make overseer with them my brother William GREY, Robert EPTON my brother in law and William TOY and they to have for their pains taking 12 pence a piece.
