Will dated 11th January 1587. Probate 11th February 1587. In the name of God Amen. I John EDWARDS of Weston in the parish of Weedon Pinckney in the county of Northampton, weaver, being sick in body but of good and perfect memory thanks be to god, do make this my last will and testament in manner and form following. First, I give and bequeath my soul to Almighty god my creator and to Jesus Christ my redeemer and to the holy ghost my sanctifier three persons and one god, and my body to buried in the churchyard of Weedon aforesaid. Item, I give and bequeath unto Clement HINTON my son in law all that my hovel or cowhouse with a mault mill in the same otherwise called a mault queme and all other household stuff or other goods whatsoever is now in the same, and also I give to the said Clement all my vessel or cowpery ware whatsoever in or about my house that I have. Item, I will that Richard SCERY my servant shall have all such implements and geares that is in my shop belonging to my trade or occupation to his own use for paying for the same the sum of seven pounds of lawful English money if he the said Richard will and put in sufficient securities to be bound unto Clement HINTON my said son in law for the payment of the same at such times and days as are hereafter set down and appointed which securities shall be bound before the proving of this my will or this my will toward the said Richard SCERY to be void and he the said Richard to claim nothing thereby of the said geares or stuff in my shop. And if the said Richard do bring in such securities before my will be proved then I will that he shall have six years day of payment of the said sum of seven pounds from the day of the date hereof which said sum of 7 pounds I will shall be paid to my said son in law Clement HINTON to the use of Thomas HINTON, Henry HINTON, Cicely HINTON, Mary HINTON and Johane HINTON, children of the said Clement equally to be divided and if it chance any of them do die before they receive their part then the survivor or survivors of them to have their part equally to be divided amongst them which part I will they shall receive at the age of 21 years or at the day of their marriage which first shall happen, and if the said Richard SCERY refuse to take the paid stuff or implements of the said price or cannot bring in securities for the payment of the said money then I will that he shall have 20 shillings and so depart; which 20 shillings I will he shall receive within three months after my decease. Item, I will and bequeath unto Elizabeth WALTON my servant 4 shillings and one little coffer and her livery and a wastcoate. Item, I give to Richard SCERY my hat and 2 shirts and a pair of hose. Item, I give to Margery PETIVER a wastcoate. Item, I give to Thomas H[Y]NDSON my prise coate. Item, I give to Old John COX and his son John COX an old pair of hose with the drawers and an old dublett, the old man to make his choice which of them he will have. Item, I give to every of my godchildren 4 pence, I give to Clement HINTON my said son in law all my beds and bed clothes whatsoever. Item, I give to the mother church of Peterborough 2 pence. Item, I give to the parish church of Weedon 12 pence. All the rest of my goods unbequeathed my debts and legacies being paid I give unto Clement HINTON and Thomas HINTON his son whom I make my only executors and I will that Clement HINTON shall have the use of the childrens goods until they come to the age of 21 years or till they marry which first shall come. Item, I make Thomas MAIO and George PETIVER my overseers And I give to either of them for their pains 6 shillings 8 pence.
