In the Name of God Amen: The twelth day of November 1629:1 John ADKINS of Weston in the parish of Weston and Weedon Pinkeney in the county of Northampton yeoman being sick and weak in body but of sound and perfect memory I praise God do make and ordain this my last will and Testament in manner following. First I most willingly and cheerfully resign my soul into the hands of Almighty God my creator and of Jesus Christ my faithful redeemer and do request my body may be decently buried within the parish church of Weedon aforesaid and for my temporal estate I do dispose of it as followeth. Item/ I do hereby devise give grant and bequeath unto John ADKI.NS my son and heir and to his heirs and assigns forever all that my Messuage and Tenement with the appurtenances situate and being in Weston aforesaid now in the possession or occupation of one Thomas SUTTON. And all that one yard land with the appurtenances Commons profits and now used occupied or enjoyed to and with the said Messuage and all that cottage house with appurtenances situate and being in Weston aforesaid now in the possession or occupation of one Francis WELCH together with the yearly rents reserved upon any lease or leases of the said premises! Also I do hereby devise give grant and bequeath unto my said son John ADK1NS and to his heirs and assigns forever all that my other Messuage and Tenement situate and being in Weedon aforesaid now in possession or occupation of one Bartholomew MOBBS together also with all those lands Tenements and hereditaments situate lying and being within the fields and parish of Weedon aforesaid which I bought and purchased of my brother John LANE with their and other of their appurtenances and also all that close with appurtenances lying and being in Weston aforesaid near adjoining to the ground of one Henry HINTON NEVERTHELESSE subject and liable to the proviso hereafter mentioned that is to say PROVIDED always that if my said son John ADKYNS his heirs executors Administrators and assigns or some of them do not or shall not well and truly consent and pay or cause to be paid to my daughters Anne ADKYNS and Alice ADKYNS the sum of twenty pounds of current English money to be paid within one whole year next after either of their days of marriage and if either of my said children shall happen to die before their several portion shall grow due my said son John ADKYNS his heirs executors administrators and assigns do not or shall not also pay to the surviving or survivor of my said children the portion or portions of such of them as shall happen to dye as aforesaid That then from and after every such default in payment it shall and may be lawful to and for my said children Anne ADKYNS Alice ADKYNS and to and for either of the one of them successively into the said last mentioned messuage and close to either and the only rents issues and profits thereof to have virtue perceive and take until their said several portions shale be successively satisfied and paid! Also I do hereby give and bequeath unto my said son John ADKYNS four beast and thirty sheep to be delivered to him by my Executrix at the and or expiration of the aforesaid Thomas SUTTON’s lease And one horse or mare and one iron banned Cart immediately after my decease. Also I give unto my said son John the standing bedstead in my Parlour and the cupboard there with the wainscot, two chairs and long table and frame in the Hall and all my bedsteads and three chests in the chamber over the Parlour, one great chest standing over the Hall two feather beds and all other bedding to fixing, two beds with all, and all my brass, twelve pieces of pewter my malt mill questerne and leads, four horses with the harness and gears two other iron banned carts and all my Ploughs and harrows all which said promises for the delivery whereof there is no certain time before therein limited my will is that they be shall be delivered to my said son John ADKYNS at the time of the said sons marriage or death of my now well beloved wife Helen which first shall happen unless it please her to deliver them before. Also my will is that my said son John ADKINS shall have yearly during his mothers life cut have take and carry away to his own use one carte of thorns from of my lands in Weston where they may most conveniently be had and taken. Item/ my will further is and I do hereby devise and appoint that my said well beloved wife Helen shall the next year after the end and expiration of the aforesaid SUTTON’s lease (if she still be then living) at her proper costs and charges plough, husband, till, dress and sow with good and fit seed for my said son John ADK1NS that yard land which now is in the aforesaid SUTTON’s occupation and also shall carry to and for his use the crop which shall be there upon growing my said son John helping at all times forth doing thereof with his own labour and horse and likewise for the husbanding of his said mothers land and ending of her crop Item/ for the further corroboration confirmation and strengthening of one Indenture bearing date the Tenth day of this instant month of November and made between me the said John ADKYNS of the one part and Henry ADKYNS my youngest son of the other part I the said John ADKYNS do hereby devise give grant and confirm with the said Henry ADKYNS his heirs and assigns forever all that my messuage and Tenement with the appurtenances with the close, orchard, garden, back side and premises which I bought of Thomas COURT clerke situate lying and being in Sulgrave in the aforesaid county of Northampton, all that my other messuage with the appurtenances situate and being in Weedon aforesaid with the close land and commons for two beast thereunto to belonging and in the possession of one John WILLS or his assigns and all those lands and hereditaments with the appurtenances lying and being within the parish of Weedon aforesaid which are personnel of my ancient inheritance and which now are in the possession of one Bartholomew MOBBS or his assigns and common and common of pasture ground therewith all used or occupied And all that close with the appurtenances lying and being within the parish and fields of Moreton Pinkney in the aforesaid county of Northampton which I purchased of one Cornelius HOPKlNS. Also I hereby give and bequeath unto my said son Henry his executors and assigns my lease interest and term of years of in and to all that messuage and tenement, close, orchard, garden, back side and premises lying and being within the parish of Moreton Pinkney aforesaid now in the possession or occupation of one Owyn SANDERS and all rents reserved upon any of the premises. Item/ I further give and bequeath unto my said son Henry two beast and ten sheep. Item/ I hereby give grant and bequeath unto my daughter Anne ADKYNS her heirs and assigns forever all that close with the appurtenances lying within the parish of Wappenham in the aforesaid county of Northampton which I purchased of one Henry FOWKES. Also I give unto my said daughter Anne the some of forty pounds of current English money to be paid unto her at the end of one whole year next after her marriage if she shall be then living. Item/ I give and bequeath unto my daughter Alice ADKINS the some of one hundred pounds to be paid in manner following, that is to say fifty pounds within three months next after her day of marriage and the other fifty pounds within one whole year then next following if she shall then be living. Item/ I also hereby devise and appoint that if any of my said younger children shall dye before their several portions shall be due unto them that then the portion and portions of such shall be equally divided amongst the survivors or survivor of them. Item/ I hereby give and bequeath unto Joane HUDDLE the sum of twenty pounds of current English money to be paid unto her in manner following that is to say ten pounds within six months next after my decease and the other ten pounds within six months then next following if the said Joane shall be then living. Item/ I hereby give and bequeath to the poor of Weston twenty shillings and to every of my godchildren twelve pence. Item/ as for touching or concerning all other my goods, chattels, cattle, gold, silver, household stuff and implements of household of what nature property or kind soever not hereby bequeathed to any other person or persons I give and bequeath them all to my aforesaid well beloved wife Helen whom I make sole executrix of this my last will and testament entreating her to see the same faithfully performed and I do ordain my loving brothers John LANE and Thomas BARDEN of Chadston and my loving friend John ADAMS of Culworth yeoman, overseers of the same unto each of whom I give for their pains five shillings. Moreover I give unto the said John ADAMS for writing my will ten shillings. In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and sealer the day and year first above written Witness John ADKINS his mark.
