NRO Ref: 2nd series S 31. Will dated 26th November 1612 Probate, not stated. In the name of God Amen. I Henry HOWSE of Weston in the parish of Weedon Pinckney in the county of Northampton being weak in body but of good and perfect memory and thanks be unto god for it do make my last will and testament in manner and form following. First I give and bequeath my soul unto god my maker, god the father, god the son and god the holy ghoste, three persons and one god, and my body to be buried in the Earth from whence it was taken. Item, I give and bequeath unto the church of Weedon Pinckney 12 pence. Item, I give and bequeath unto the poor of the parish where most need is, as shall be thought fit by my executors 2 shillings 6 pence. Item, I give unto my daughter Elizabeth one sheep. Item, I give and bequeath unto William COLE son of Thomas COLE, one sheep. Item, I give and bequeath unto William HAULLES one sheep. Item, I give and bequeath unto John COLE one sheep, to be kept until it be two years old, by my said executors. Item, my will is that if Elizabeth my wife shall marry, that then she shall have the sum of twenty pounds of lawful money of England to be paid unto her within one year after her marriage and so to go her way. The rest of all my goods and chattles unbequeathed, my debts paid and funeral discharged, I give unto Elizabeth my wife and Richard my son whom I do make my Executors of this my will. Item, my will is that my Executors shall jointly take the lease of my house together, all the next taking if it shall please the warden and the company. Also my will is that if my wife and my son shall not agree to have and occupy their said living together, then my son Richard shall repe, till and manure one half yard land at his own cost and charges and shall mowe, make ready and carry the crop of corn and living and all other carriage, growing, commoning and belonging unto the said half yard land for and to the use of the said Elizabeth, my wife, unto the said house where she dwelleth. She the said Elizabeth finding seed for the said half yard land, and that the said Elizabeth shall have the close at home and two bays of their Hay Barn and the gears within the gate being between the Hay house and the dwelling house next to the street, and the hovel and the buttery and the four rooms over them to her own use. And also that my son Richard shall every year fetch for the said Elizabeth my wife on Buttrece of coals the paying for them at the pit, and two loads of wood, she the said Elizabeth paying for them at the woods, unto the said house where she dwelleth. Also my will is that if my Executors do not agree to use and occupy their said living together that then they shall equally divide and part all their goods and chattles within one month after their disagreement at the oversight of my overseers. And I do appoint and desire my well beloved friends Thomas COLES and Thomas BAYLEYE to be overseers of this my present will and do give to either of them 3 shillings 4 pence. In witness whereof I have set to my hand the six and twenty day of November in the year of the reign of our Sovereign Lord James by the grace of god of England, France and Ireland the tenth and of Scotland the fourty sixth.
