NRORef: W52. Will dated 1O~ June 1598 Probate 31St July 1598 In the name of God Amen. I George TAYLOR of Weston in [the] parish of Weedon Pinckney in the County of Northampton, yeoman being weak in body but of good and perfect memory, thanks be to god for it, do make and ordain this my last will and testament in manner and form following. First I give and bequeath my Soul into the hands of almighty god my maker, god the father, god the son and god the holy ghost, three persons and one god and my body to be buried in the earth from whence it was taken. Item, I give and bequeath unto Richard TAYLOR my eldest son, three shillings four pence. Item, I give and bequeath to George TAYLOR son of the said Richard, twelve pence. Item, I give unto Agnes TAYLOR my daughter eight pounds and one bedstead which she has already [had] delivered to her. Item, I give and bequeath to Elizabeth TAYLOR my daughter, ten pounds. Item, I give and bequeath to Joan TAYLOR my daughter, ten pounds, and either of my fore said two daughters a bedstead, four pairs of sheets, the which said sums often pounds a piece and the other residue to be paid unto them at the day of their marriages or else within four years next after my decease, and if it please god to call either of my said daughters before they do receive their said legacies then I will that the survivor of them and my executor to divide the said legacy equally between them. Also my will is that my son John TAYLOR the elder shall be kept with my executor during the term of his natural life, with sufficient meat, drink, clothes and lodging fit and decent for him. Item, I give unto my son John TAYLOR the younger the lease for the house in Weston that I now dwell in, for all the term of years yet to come and unexpired which I hold of the College of Alsouls in Oxford and the warden and fellows of the same. And also I give and bequeath unto my said son John TAYLOR the younger all the rest of my goods and chattels whatsoever unbequeathed, my debts, legacies and funeral discharged, whom I make my sole and only executor of this my last will and testament. Item, I give to the poor people of the parish of Weedon Pinckney where most need is, 5 shillings. Item, my will is that my body shall be buried within the church of Weedon Pinckney aforesaid and I give towards the repair of the church 10 shillings. Item, I do appoint and desire my well beloved friends John HOPKINS and Richard TUCKER, overseers of this my last will and testament and do give to either of them for their pains 3 shillings 4 pence. In witness whereof I have caused this will to be written and have set my hand the tenth day of June in the fourtieth year of the reign of our Sovereign Lady Elizabeth, by the grace of god of England, France and Ireland, Queen defender of the faith. It is interesting to note the provision made for his son John TAYLOR the elder, this would suggest that John had some affliction and could not take care of himself, there is also the question of there being 2 Johns, both sons, both living. It is possible that they considered an impaired child, a dead child, for all pretence and purposes.
