I Elizabeth Prowting of Chawton in the County of 
Southampton Widow do declare this to be my last Will and 
Testament I give and bequeath unto my Daughter Elizabeth 
Lee my Old Bible also my Rings Jewells Eye Glass Silver 
Nutmeggrater and Silver Knife and my two Snuff Boxes Also I 
give and bequeath unto my daughter Catherine Ann 
Prowting a Moiety of my Clothes and wearing Apparel also all 
my Books (except the aforesaid old Bible) Also I give and 
bequeath unto my Daughter Ann Mary Clement the 
remaining Moiety of my Clothes and wearing Apparel my best 
easy Chair and four Pillows belonging thereto and also my 
smallest Mahogany Stool covered with Brussels Carpet Also I 
give and bequeath to my ffriends Mrs Jones of Chelsea 
Mrs Ventris and Mrs Wells the sum of two Guineas a piece 
for rings Also I bequeath to my Servants Mary Brooman 
and Mary Carpenter the sum of two Guineas a piece for rings 
Also I bequeath the Sum of five Pounds for Bread to be 
distributed amongst such of the Poor of the Parish of Chawton 
as my Executrix hereinafter appointed shall think proper And I 
bequeath the Residue of my Property to my three Children the 
said Elizabeth Lee Catherine Ann Prowting and Ann Mary 
Clement equally and I appoint my said Daughter Catherine 
Ann Prowting sole Executrix of this my Will In Witness whereof 
I have hereunto set my hand and Seal this fourth day of 
September in the year of our Lord one thousand eight
