This is the last Will and Testament
of me  Charles Pafoot of Portsmouth in the County of Southampton Gentleman but 
late residing at Portsea in the same County and  Storekeeper of his then Majesty?s 
Victualling Yard at Portsmouth aforesaid made whilst in health and of sound perfect 
and disposing mind memory and understanding whereby I recommend my soul into the 
hands of Almighty God and dispose of all my worldly estate and effects in manner 
following that is to say I direct all my just debts funeral expenses and the costs of a 
proving this my will be paid as soon as may be and I charge all my estate and effects 
with the payment thereof I give and bequeath unto my affectionate wife Charlotte 
Pafoot all and singular my household goods and furniture of household household stuff 
bed linen table linen plate prints pictures china printed books wearing apparel of all 
sorts coatches Javers things and Ornaments wines spirits and every other article and  
thing that  shall be in upon and about the dwelling house in which I  shall reside at the 
time of my decease including such of the fixtures thereof as shall belong unto me 
(except ready money) to and for her my said wife Charlotte Pafoot?s own proper use 
benefit and disposal out and out absolutely I give and bequeath all my Capital stock or 
principal money in the Bank of England dividends monies on mortgage bonds 
securities for  money debts out and owing unto me sum and sums of money pension 
ready money and all the rest Residue and Remainder of my personal estate and 
effects of any kind sort and denomination that I now am or at the time of my decease I 
shall or may be possesses of interested in or entitled unto and over which I have now or 
might then have any disposing right control or power and each and every part thereof 
(and not hereinbefore by me specifically disposed of) unto my said wife Charlotte 
Pafoot and my trusty friend George Deare Meadows of Portsea aforesaid Doctor of 
Medicine their executors and administrators upon this special trust and confidence that 
they my said trustees the said Charlotte Pafoot and George  Deare Meadows and the 
survivor of them her or his executors and administrators so and shall pay and apply or 
otherwise permit and suffer and sufficiently authorize and empower my said wife 
Charlotte Pafoot and her assigns to have receive retain and keep all and singular the 
dividends interest and annual profits of my said capital stock or principal money in the 
Bank of England and other monies and the general annual income and yearly produce 
of all the residue of my said personal estate and effects and each and every part thereof 
for and during the term of her natural life to and for her and their own use and benefit 
and from and immediately after her my said wife?s decease upon this further trust that 
they my said trustees or the survivor of them her or his executors or administrators so 
and shall by sale and disposition of so much and such part of my said Capital stock or 
principal money or otherwise caise and make out of any other part of the said residue of 
my said estate and effects so much money as shall be sufficient for the purpose to pay 
and I give and bequeath unto each of my said wife?s nephews and nieces (the children 
of the late Lieutenant Hallum Royal  Navy and Harriet his wife) namely James 
Hallum a Lieutenant in the Royal Marines Edward Hallum a Captain of the tenth 
Regiment of  Native Infantry in the Honorable East India Company?s service Harriet 
Sturt Young the wife of Major Young of the thirty eighth Regiment of Foot now 
serving in Ireland and Lydia Graves wife of Lieutenant Richard Willcox Graves 
Royal Navy the sum of two hundred and fifty pounds sterling a piece absolutely and do 
also pay and likewise give and bequeath unto my said Wife?s Niece Arabella Diana 
Nelson the wife* of John Henry Nelson? of Bury Street Saint James?s London portrait 
painter late Arabella Diana Leigh Spinster (daughter of the Reverend James Allott 
Leigh and Sarah his late Wife deceased) the like sum of two hundred and fifty pounds 
sterling and I especially direct that the said sum of two hundred and fifty pounds 
sterling so given or bequeathed or directed to be paid unto the said Arabella Diana 
Nelson shall be for her sole separate and independent use benefit and disposal out and 
out absolutely as though she was a feme sole and unmarried woman and that her script 
alone notwithstanding her present or any future coverture shall be a sufficient discharge 
to the Executors and every other person or persons paying her the same under this my 
will and from and after full satisfaction shall be made of each and every one of the said 
last mentioned legacies upon this final and ultimate trust that they my  said trustees and 
the survivor of them her or his executors or administrators do and shall pay transfer 
make over and assign unto and I give and bequeath all the then residue and remainder 
of my said Capital stock or principal money in the Bank of England and other monies 
and all the ultimate rest and residuum of my said personal estate and effects and every 
part thereof between my seven nephews and nieces (the children of my late sister 
Elizabeth Foster deceased) Thomas Foster Charles Foster John Foster Henry 
Foster George Foster Elizabeth Cooper the widow of George Cooper deceased and 
Ann Christmas the wife of Eli Christmas in equal proportions share and share alike 
out and out absolutely And I do hereby nominate constitute and appoint my said Wife 
Charlotte Pafoot  Executrix and my said friend George Deare Meadows Executor 
of this my last will and my said wife and the said George Deare Meadows Trustees of 
the same for the purposes aforesaid who I do hereby direct shall not be answerable or 
accountable one for the other and by no means for involuntary losses and that each of 
them shall be allowed and retain all loss costs damages and expenses incurred in or 
occasioned by the performance of the trusts of this my will and that each of them shall 
have power to lay out vest reinvest alter vary transpose manage and receive the trust 
funds and monies belonging to my estate from time to time as may be requisite 
expediant or at all necessary for the fulfillment of the trusts of this my Will And I do 
hereby revoke all former wills by me made and In testimony that this is my last will 
and Testament contained in this and the three annexed sheets of paper I the said 
Charles Pafoot the Testator have to the foot or end of the three preceding as well as to 
the foot or end of this the fourth and last sheet thereof set my hand this Seventh day of 
July in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty Charles Pafoot  Signed 
and declared by the said Charles Pafoot the Testator as and for his last Will and 
Testament on the day of the date in the presence of us present at the same time who at 
his request in his presence and in the presence of each other have hereunto subscribed

Proved at London the 2nd of September 1844 before the Judge by the oaths of 
Charlotte Pafoot Widow the relict and George Deare Meadows Doctor of Medicine 
the Executors to whom Admon was granted having been first sworn by Commission 
only to administer.
