This is the last Will and Testament of me Mary Ann Earle of Froyle in the County 
of Southampton Widow. I bequeath all my clothes and wearing apparel unto my 
Sister Lucy Beagley. I also bequeath to my said Sister Lucy Beagley the sum of 
Sixty Pounds and direct the same to be paid to her within one month from my 
decease. I bequeath to my Nephew Henry Newell the sum of Ten Pounds. I 
bequeath to my Nephew William Newell of Shalden the sum of Fifty Pounds. I 
bequeath to my Niece Frances Ann Farr the Sum of Fifty Pounds. I bequeath to my 
Niece Emma Brownjohn the sum of Fifty Pounds. I bequeath to my Niece Anne 
Thatcher wife of Joseph Thatcher of Speen Berks my table with marble top. I 
bequeath to my Niece Mary Ann Farr my best bed and bedstead together with the 
pillows bolsters furniture blankets sheets and counterpanes belonging thereto or 
usually used therewith. I bequeath to my said Nephew Henry Newell and Annuity 
of fifteen Pounds and twelve shillings per Annum during his life And I direct the 
Executors of this my Will to set apart or purchase in their or her names or name as 
soon as can conveniently be done after my decease sufficient Stock Three Pounds 
Per Cent reduced Annuities for answering the said Annuity And I further Will and 
Direct that the said Annuity shall be paid to my said Nephew by weekly payments 
of six shillings each on Saturday in every week free of all deductions the first of 
such payments to be made on the first Saturday next after my decease Provided 
always that if by reason of the Act or default of the said Henry Newell or by 
operation of law the said Annuity or any part thereof shall be aliened charged or 
disposed of to or in favour of any other person or persons then the said Annuity  
shall thenceforth cease and determine as though he ................ and the fund 
appropriated to answer the same immediately thereupon become the absolute 
property of my said Nieces Anne Thatcher and Mary Ann Farr in equal shares. I 
direct that the duty which will attach to the several legacies and the said Annuity 
hereinbefore bequeathed shall be discharged from my personal Estate and that the 
bequests hereinbefore and hereinafter made in favour of legatees who shall be 
married women shall be for their sole and separate use respectively independent of 
marital control. And as to all the residue of my personal Estate and Effects 
whatsoever and wheresoever including the fund set apart to answer the said 
Annuity but subject thereto I give and bequeath the same unto and equally between 
the said Anne Thatcher and Mary Ann Farr for their absolute use and benefit 
respectively subject nevertheless to the payment of my debts and testamentary 
expenses. I give and devise my messuage or dwelling house with the garden 
blacksmith and wheelwrights shops buildings yards and appurtenances thereto 
belonging situate at Isington in the Parish of Binsted in the County of Southampton 
now in the occupation of William Smith. And also all other my real Estate 
whatsoever and wheresoever unto my said Nieces the said Anne Thatcher 

and Mary Ann Farr and their heirs as tenants in common and not as joint tenants. I 
devise all real Estate vested in me as a Mortgagee unto the said Mary Ann Farr and 
her heirs to be disposed of (but subject to the equities of redemption subsisting 
therein) according to the disposition hereinbefore made of my personal Estate. I 
appoint the said Anne Thatcher and Mary Ann (“Thatcher”) Farr Executrixes of 
this my Will and I hereby revoke all wills by me at any time herebefore made. In 
witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand the sixth day of November in the 
year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixty two Mary Ann Earle

Signed and declared by the said Mary Ann Earle (the Testatrix) as and for her last 
Will and testament in the presence of us present at the same time who in her 
presence at her request and in the presence of each other have hereunto subscribed 
our names as attesting Witnesses the word “Thatcher” having been first obliterated

On the seventh day of May 1863 the Will of Mary Ann Earle late of Froyle in the 
County of Southampton Widow deceased who died on the fourth day of January 
1863 at Froyle aforesaid was proved in the District Registry attached to Her 
Majesty’s Court of Probate at Winchester by the Oaths of  Anne Thatcher (Wife of 
Joseph Thatcher, Yeoman) of Speen in the County of Berks and Mary Ann Farr of 
Froyle aforesaid Spinster Nieces of the said deceased the Executrixes therein 
named they having been first duly Sworn to Administer.
