This is the Last Will and Testament of me William Earle of Weeke in the 
Parish of Binsted in the County of Southampton Yeoman whereby I commend my 
soul to God and dispose of my worldly Estate in manner and form following that is 
to say: First I will and direct that all my just debts and funeral expenses and the 
legacies hereinafter by me Given and bequeathed shall be fully paid and satisfied 
by my Executors hereinafter named. Also I give and bequeath unto my brothers 
John Earle and Edward Earle the sum of One Hundred Pounds apiece of lawful 
money of Great Britain to be paid to them respectively by Ten equal yearly 
payments (that is to say) the sum of Ten Pounds Yearly to each of them  the said 
John Earle and Edward Earle until the whole of their said respective Legacies of 
One Hundred Pounds apiece are paid. The first of the said yearly payments of Ten 
Pounds each to be paid to them respectively at the end of twelve months after my 
decease provided always and  I do direct that in my case my said brothers or either 
of them shall die before the whole of their respective Legacies of One Hundred 
Pounds shall be payable the then remaining payments of Ten Pounds a year shall 
cease and not be paid to the Representatives of  either of them so dying. Also I 
give  and bequeath unto all and every the children of my Brothers and Sisters that 
shall be living at the time of my decease (except my Nephews George and William 
Spurrier hereinafter named and also except my Nephew John Earle son of my 
brother John Earle and also except my Niece Judith Boyde and also except the 
children of my Brother Edward Earle) the sum of five pounds  each of lawful 
money of Great Britain to be paid to them each respectively when and as soon as 
they shall severally attain their respective ages of sixteen years without interest. 
Also I give and bequeath unto Mary the daughter of my Brother Edward Earle and 
to the said John Earle the son of my Brother John Earle the sum of five pounds 
apiece. Also I give and bequeath unto the other children of my said Brother 
Edward Earle namely William Thomas Edward Joseph and Ann Earle the sum of 
five pounds apiece to be paid to them respectively at the end of twelve months 
after my decease. Also I give devise and bequeath unto my beloved wife Eleanor 
who before our late marriage was called Eleanor Lock all that my freehold 
messuage or Tenement Garden heredits and appurts tenements belonging to and 
therewith used late in the occupation of Eli Earle and now John Painter situate in 
Binsted aforesaid to hold to her my said wife Eleanor her heirs and assigns forever. 
Also I give devise and bequeath unto my said wife Eleanor all that my Copyhold 
messuage farm and Lands situate at Noar Hill (in the occupation of farmer James 
Blanchard) which Copyhold premises I have surrendered to the use of my will to 
hold to her my said wife for and during the term of her natural life and from and 
after her decease I give and devise the same Copyhold premises unto my nephew 
George Spurrier and his heirs for ever. Also I give and bequeath  unto my said wife 
Eleanor the sum of Two Hundred Pounds to be paid to her as soon after my 
decease as the same can conveniently be raised. Also I give and bequeath unto my 
said wife Eleanor all my victuals Liquor and fuel in and about my house at my 
decease and also my chest of drawers three oak chests and three oak boxes 
standing in my best chamber and also all my pewter the corner cupboard in the 
kitchen and everything in it and my warming pan and also my best bed and 
bedding and all the rest of my furniture in the best chamber and also such other of 
my furniture as my said wife shall choose or think proper to take. Also I desire that 
my said wife may be permitted to live in my house I now dwell in for three months 
after my decease if she shall think proper. Also I give and devise unto my said wife 
Eleanor (lately called Eleanor Lock) all that my freehold messuage or Tenement 
farm lands and hereditaments situate at Southrope in the parish of Herriard in the 
said county of Southampton with the appurts thereto belonging and all my 
Leasehold Cottage garden and premises thereto also belonging (all which said 
premises I sometime since purchased of James Bull and others and are now in the 
occupation of David Searle) to hold the same premises to and for the use of my 
said wife Eleanor for and during the term of her natural life and from and after her 
decease I give and devise the same unto such child or children as my wife shall or 
may be ?Eusrient with at my decease  his her or their heirs and assigns for ever but 
if my said wife shall not be with child at my decease then I give and devise that the 
said farm lands and premises from and after the decease of my said wife unto my 
sister Jane Greenwood and my said Nephew George Spurrier their heirs Executors 
Admons and Assigns for ever or according to my Estate and Interest therein as 
Tenants in Common and not as Joint Tenants. Also I give and bequeath unto my 
said sister Jane Greenwood the sum of Twenty Pounds of Lawful Money of Great 
Britain to be paid at the end of twelve months after my decease. Also I give and 
devise unto Elizabeth the daughter of Thomas Watts and Elizabeth his wife who 
was my sister now the wife of Samuel Hounsome the sum of forty pounds of 
lawful money of Great Britain to be paid at the end of twelve months after my 
decease. Also I give and devise unto my said wife Eleanor all that my freehold 
messuage or Tenement Garden Hereditaments and appurtenances thereto belonging 
which I purchased of John Yalden situate in Binsted aforesaid and now occupied 
by George Whetstone and also the new house newly erected on part of the said 
premises to hold the said premises with the appurtenances unto my said wife 
Eleanor her heirs and assigns for ever and I do hereby declare that in case I should 
depart this life before the said new house shall be completely finished and fit to 
reside in according to my present plan and apparent intention that them my said 
wife Eleanor shall have any sum not exceeding three hundred pounds to 
completely finish and make it fit to reside in and I give and bequeath to her such 
sum accordingly. Also I give and bequeath unto my Brothers in law John Knight 
and Thomas Watts the sum of five pounds apiece of like lawful money to be 
payable and paid to them respectively within twelve months next after my decease. 
Also I give devise unto my Nephew James Spurrier son of William Spurrier all that 
my freehold messuage or tenement land heredits and premises which I sometime 
since purchased of Charles Richards situate lying and being in the parish of 
Newton Valence in the County of Southampton aforesaid with the buildings and 
appurtenances thereto belonging now or lately occupied by farmer Thomas 
Andrews to hold the same premises with the appurts unto the said James Spurrier 
his heirs and assigns forever. Also I give and devise unto my Brother John Earle 
that Close of land called Townsend purrock containing about half an acre and also 
the cottage therein erected situate in the Tything of Weeke in the parish of Binsted 
aforesaid with the appurtenances now in his own occupation and all my Estate and 
Interest therein (which said premises I sometime since purchased of Mr John 
Hawkins) to hold the same premises with the appurts unto the said John Earle for 
and during the term of his natural life and from and after his decease I give and 
devise the same premises with the appurts unto John Greenwood son of my sister 
Jane Greenwood his heirs executors admons and assigns for ever or according to 
my Estate and Interest therein as aforesaid. Also I give and devise unto my brother 
Edward Earle all that my freehold messuage or tenement garden and hereditament 
with appurts situate in the Tything of Southay wherein they now dwell which I 
purchased of Lazarus Lawrence and others to hold the same premises with the 
appurts unto and to the use of Edward Earle for and during the term of his natural 
life and from and after his decease I give and devise the same premises with the 
appurts unto the child commonly called John the natural child of Mary Greenwood 
the daughter of my sister and his heirs and assigns for ever. Also I give and 
bequeath unto the child called Lucy the natural child of Elizabeth Whetstone lately 
called Elizabeth Greenwood the sum of Ten pounds of lawful money of Great 
Britain to be paid at the end of twelve months after my decease or otherwise 
applied for her benefit at the discretion of my Executors. Also I give and bequeath 
unto the child called Ann Greenwood the natural daughter of Mary Greenwood the 
like sum of Ten pounds to be paid at the end of twelve months after my decease or 
otherwise applied for her benefit at the discretion of my Executors. Also I give and 
devise unto my Nephew George Spurrier who assists me in my Business all that 
messuage and garden with the appurtenances  situate at Weeke aforesaid which I 
purchased from Ann Bell to hold to him his heirs Executors admons and assigns 
for ever or according to my Estate and Interest therein. Also I forgive Michael 
Boyde of Crondall in the said County of Southampton Labourer the sum of forty 
pounds and upwards which he is indebted to me on a note of hand. Also I give and 
bequeath unto Eleanor Lock Widow Mother of my present wife the sum of fifty 
pounds to be paid to her at the end of twelve month after my decease. Also I give 
and bequeath unto Thomas Lock the brother of my present wife the sum of twenty 
pounds to be paid at the end of twelve months after my decease. And in whereas 
my Nephew William Spurrier is indebted to me a large sum of money advanced by 
me for the stocking of his farm at Scures and otherwise Now I do hereby forgive 
him the whole of the said debt upon condition that he pay to my Executors the sum 
of One Hundred Pounds only to be considered as a part of the residuance of my 
Effects and all the rest residue and remainder of my Estate both Real and personal 
Ready Money and Securities for Money cattle fattening Stock Crop and Effects of 
what nature or kindsoever I give devise and bequeath unto my said Sister Jane 
Greenwood and to my said Nephew George Spurrier their heirs Executors Admons 
and Assigns to be equally divided between them share and share alike But subject 
and chargeable nevertheless  with the payment of my debts Legacies and funeral 
expenses and I do hereby make nominate constitute and appoint the said Jane 
Greenwood and George Spurrier Executrix and Executor of this my last Will and 
testament hereby revoking all former Wills by me at any time therebefore made In 
Witness whereof I the said William Earle (the Testator) have to this my last Will 
and Testament contained in this and the four preceding sheets of paper set my hand 
and Seal (that is to say) to the four first sheets my hand and the this last sheet my 
hand and Seal the tenth day of June in the year of our Lord One thousand seven 
hundred and ninety eight Wm Earle Seal Signed Sealed Published and Declared by 
the said William Earle (the Testator) as and for his last Will and Testament the day 
of the date in the presence of us who in his presence and at his request and in the 
presence of each other have subscribed our names as Witnesses thereto Chas.
