Miss Katherine 'Kathy' Wicks, an
18 years old secretary of Guildford Road, Woking, was the Carnival Queen for Woking's third Whirl, in July 1971 (she had been
one of Jill Gosden's attendants the previous year). To win the
competition, Kathy beat 27 other finalists, including 1 man! Her prize
