Miss Roehie Tufail, a 22-years old
artist, was the Carnival Queen for Woking's
fourth Whirl, in July 1972. Her two attendants were
Suzan Gregory, a dry cleaner's assistant manageress, and Evelyn Turner,
a cosmetic sales assistant. The ladies were dressed for the day
by Susan Gay and were allowed to keep the dresses. As a prize for winning the competition, Roehie received a holiday for two in Majorca (worth £50) arranged by Gray's World Travel Ltd. The runners-up were given transistor radios. Roehie came to Britain from Lahore, Pakistan, in 1960. She is the daughter of a former Imam of Woking Mosque.
