Twenty-one years old secretary, Miss Gail Taylor
of Pyrford, was the Carnival Queen for Woking's
thirteenth Whirl, in July 1981. Her attendants were Debbie Clark and Nicolette Parker.
Gail's prize for winning, beating 19 other finalists, was a holiday for two in Paris (donated by Crown Life), a £50 Aerco voucher, a dress (to keep) for carnival day (from Anon Fashions). Each finalist also received a £10 cash prize from Cable Electrics. Gail first entered the Miss Woking contest in 1976, when she was 16, and was a finalist.
