aka STAVECK LAKE

Stafford Lake was a small lake (more accurately a pond, approximately 10 metres by 70 metres), situated near the southern edge of the parish close to the boundary with Pirbright. As early as 1769, there is a reference to a bridge, probably in a similar position to the modern crossing (solid with two culverts connecting the two parts of the pond) today.

The name changed from Staveck Lake to Stafford Lake sometime around 1890. The lake gave its name to both the immediate area and the nearby farm.
