BISLEY is a parish and small village, 4 miles north-west from Woking station, 2 south-south-west from Chobham, in the Western division of the county, Godley hundred, and in the union and county court district of Chertsey, archdeaconry of Surrey, deanery of North-West Stoke, and diocese of Winchester. The church of St. John the Baptist is a stone building of the 12th century, in the Pointed Gothic style, consisting of chancel and nave, with a bell-cot, containing 3 bells. The living is a rectory, value £188 with 30 acres of glebe land, in the gift of the executors of J. Thornton, Esq., and held by the Rev. George John Wild, LL.D., of Emmanuel College, Cambridge. There is a National school, and there are charities of about £30 per annum. The Earl of Onslow is lord of the manor ; and Mrs. Marshall, and the Rev. T. J. Torr are the chief landowners. The soil is loam and the subsoil. clay and gravel. The population in 1861 was 313, most of whom are engaged in agriculture ; the parish contains 950 acres.
LUCAS GREEN is half a mile north-west; FRITH, three-quarters of a mile west; COLDINGLEY, 2 miles west; CLEWS, a quarter of a mile south; POUND GREEN, three quarters of a mile south. BISLEY COMMON, to the west, is a part of the Bagshot Heath district.
