Bisley Manor Court Roll 26 September 1913
At a Special Court Baron of The Right Honorable Richard William Alan Earl of Onslow Lord of the said Manor held for the said Manor on Friday the twenty sixth day of September in the Fourth year of the reign of Our Sovereign Lord George the fifth by the Grace of God of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland and of all the British Dominions beyond the Seas King Defender of the Faith and in the year of our Lord one thousand nine hundred and thirteen Before Humphrey Percy Smallpeice Gentleman Deputy of Frederic Ferdinand Smallpeice Gentleman Chief Steward there.
Death of Henry Gosden
At this Court came here into Court James Gosden of Newtown Nurseries Henley-on-Thames in the County of Oxford by Hugh Alexander Merriman his Attorney and informed the said Deputy Steward that Henry Gosden late one of the Copyhold or customary tenants of this Manor who held to him and his heirs by copy of Court Roll at the Will of the Lord according to the custom of the said Manor All that cottage with a garden yard and appurtenances situate lying and being in Bisley formerly in the occupation of William Pritchett since of William Harvey then late of the said Henry Gosden by the yearly rent of two pence Heriot when it shall happen Suit of Court and other services and customs To which said premises the said Henry Gosden was admitted Tenant at a General Court Baron held in and for the said Manor on the Twentieth day of August One thousand eight hundred and seventy nine died on the twenty eighth day of June last so thereof seized
Heirship of James Gosden
Also at this Court came here again the said James Gosden by his said Attorney and informed the said Deputy Steward that the said Henry Gosden died intestate and that he the said James Gosden was the eldest son of the said Henry Gosden and heir according to the custom of this Manor.
Admission of James Gosden
Now at this Courtupon the first proclamation came here again into Court the said James Gosden by his said Attorney and humbly prayed to be admitted tenant to All that the said cottage with a garden yard and appurtenances situate lying and being in Bisley formerly in the occupation of William Pritchett since of William Harvey then of the said Henry Gosden and now of his Widow which came into the hands of the Lord of this Manor on the death of the said Henry Gosden To whom the Lord of the Manor aforesaid by his Deputy Steward aforesaid granted the same and delivered seizin thereof by the Rod To hold to the said James Gosden his heirs and assigns for ever by Copy of Court Roll at the will of the Lord according to the custom of the said Manor by the Yearly rent of two pence Heriot when it shall happen Suit of Court and other services and customs therefore formerly due and of right accustomed And so he was by his said Attorney admitted Tenant thereof in form aforesaid Gave to the Lord as a Fine for such his admittance as appears in the margin [£4] and his fealty was respited
