At a Special Court Baron of The Right Honorable William Hillier Earl of Onslow Lord of the said Manor held for the said Manor on Wednesday the twenty fourth day of October in the fifty eighth year of the Reign of Our Sovereign Lady Victoria by the Grace of God of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland Queen Defender of the Faith and in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and ninety four Before Humphrey Percy Smallpeice Gentleman Deputy of Frederic Ferdinand Smallpeice Gentleman Chief Steward there.

Absolute Surrender
Alfred Paget Humphrey Esq. to His Royal Highness The Duke of York
At this Court came here into Court His Royal Highness George Frederick of Wales Duke of York by John Mudge Furneaux his Attorney and delivered to the said Deputy Steward a certain Absolute Surrender taken out of Court on the twentyninth day of August One thousand eight hundred and ninety four Whereby Alfred Paget Humphrey of Foxton House Royston in the County of Cambridge Esquire one of the copyhold or customary tenants of the said Manor in consideration of the sum of Eight thousand six hundred and fifty pounds paid to the National Rifle Association by the direction of the said Alfred Paget Humphrey by her Majesty’s Principal Secretary of State for the War Department Surrendered into the hands of the Lord of the said Manor by the acceptance of William Henry Whitehead of the town of Cambridge in the County of Cambridge Gentleman Deputy Steward for that turn only All that customary messuage or tenement together with the barn and other outbuildings orchards gardens yards backsides and appurtenances thereunto belonging formerly in the tenure of William Johnson or his assigns Also All those five closes of copyhold arable meadow and pasture land containing by estimation seven acres more or less in Bisley within the said Manor Also All that messuage tenement or cottage and one acre of land with the appurtenances to the same adjoining lying in Bisley aforesaid Also a site of a cottage or tenement called Vanits and one acre of land with the appurtenances to the same belonging with the appurtenances and also one acre of land late part of the waste adjoining to a close called Hassell Hill within the said Manor And also All that site of a messuage and one parcel of land containing by estimation one and a half acres were the same more or less late the estate of Peter Quennell and before then the estate of George Martin deceased and since of Sarah Moore lying in the Parish of Bisley to which said premises the said Alfred Paget Humphrey was admitted tenant at a Special Court Baron held for the said Manor on the twenty second day of October One thousand eight hundred and ninety and all which said premises thereinbefore described then constituted the property known by the description of “All and singular the messuage or dwelling house cottage gardens closes of land and hereditaments known as Stafford Lake Farm and Wisdom Corner situate within the parish of Bisley in the said County of Surrey containing together exclusive of the outside fences belonging thereto fourteen acres three roods and eight perches or thereabouts and being numbered 219, 232, 233, 236 and 241 on the Ordnance Survey”  To the use of the said George Frederick of Wales Duke of York and his heirs for ever Upon trust for the said Principal Secretary of State and for his successors for ever on behalf of Her Majesty according to the custom of this Manor by and under the rents fines Heriots suits and services therefore due and of right accustomed

And thereupon at this Court upon the first proclamation came here again into Court the said George Frederick of Wales Duke of York by the said John Mudge Furneaux his Attorney and humbly prayed to be admitted tenant to All that the said customary messuage or tenement together with the barn and other outbuildings orchards gardens yards backsides and appurtenances thereunto belonging formerly in the tenure of William Johnson or his assigns which came into the hands of the Lord of the said Manor on the Surrender of the said Alfred Paget Humphrey To whom the Lord of the Manor aforesaid by his Deputy Steward aforesaid granted the same and delivered seizin thereof by the rod To hold to the said George Frederick of Wales Duke of York his heirs and assigns for ever Upon trust for the said Principal Secretary of State and for his successors for ever on behalf of Her Majesty by copy of Court Roll at the Will of the Lord according to the custom of the said Manor by the yearly rent of One shilling and six pence Heriot when it shall happen suit of Court and other services and customs therefore formerly due and of right accustomed and so he was by his said Attorney admitted tenant thereof in form aforesaid Gave to the Lord as a Fine for such his admittance as appears afterwards and his fealty was respited

Also at this Court upon the first proclamation came here again into Court the said George Frederick of Wales Duke of York by the said John Mudge Furneaux his Attorney and humbly prayed to be admitted tenant to All that the said site of a messuage and one parcel of land containing by estimation one and a half acres were the same more or less late the estate of Peter Quennell and before then the estate of George Martin deceased and since of Sarah Moore lying in the Parish of Bisley which also came into the hands of the Lord of the said Manor on the Surrender of the said Alfred Paget Humphrey To whom the Lord of the Manor aforesaid by his Deputy Steward aforesaid granted the same and delivered seizin thereof by the rod To hold to the said George Frederick of Wales Duke of York his heirs and assigns for ever Upon trust for the said Principal Secretary of State and for his successors for ever on behalf of Her Majesty by copy of Court Roll at the Will of the Lord according to the custom of the said Manor by the yearly rent of six pence Heriot when it shall happen suit of Court and other services and customs therefore formerly due and of right accustomed And so he was by his said Attorney admitted tenant thereof in form aforesaid Gave to the Lord as a Fine for such his five several admittances as appears in the margin [Fine for the whole £45] and his fealty was respited
