Bisley Manor Court Roll 22 October 1890
At a Special Court Baron of The Right Honorable William Hillier Earl of Onslow Lord of the said Manor held for the said Manor on Wednesday the twenty second day of October in the fifty fourth year of the Reign of Our Sovereign Lady Victoria by the Grace of God of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland Queen Defender of the Faith and in the year of our Lord One thousand eight hundred and ninety Before Humphrey Percy Smallpeice Gentleman Deputy of Frederic Ferdinand Smallpeice Gentleman Chief Steward there.
Absolute Surrender George Drury to Alfred Paget Humphrey
At this Court came here into Court Alfred Paget Humphrey of No. 12 Pall Mall East in the County of London Esquire by Thomas Edmonds his Attorney and delivered to the said Deputy Steward a certain absolute surrender taken out of Court and since the last General Court to wit on the fifth day of June One thousand eight hundred and ninety Whereby George Drury of Guildford in the County of Surrey Gentleman in consideration of Seven hundred and fifty pounds paid to him for the purchase of the tenements thereinafter mentioned did surrender by the rod into the hands of the Lord of the said manor by the hands and acceptance of the said Deputy Steward All that customary messuage or tenement together with the barn and other outbuildings orchards gardens yards backsides and appurtenances thereunto belonging formerly in the tenure of William Johnson or his assigns Also all those five closes of copyhold arable meadow and pasture lands containing by estimation seven acres more or less in Bisley within the said Manor Also all that messuage tenement or cottage and one acre of land with the apputenances to the same adjoining lying in Bisley aforesaid Also a scite of a cottage or tenement called Vanits and one acre of land to the same belonging with the appurtenances And also one acre of land late part of the Waste adjoining to a close called Hassell Hill within the said Manor to which said premises the said George Drury was admitted tenant at a General Court Baron held for the said Manor on the twenty fourth day of May One thousand eight hundred and fifty three And also all that scite of a messuage and one parcel of land containing by estimation one acre and a half were the same more or less late the estate of Peter Purnell and before then the estate of George Martin deceased and since of Sarah Moore lying in the parish of Bisley to which said premises the said George Drury was admitted tenant at a General Court Baron held for the said Manor on the twenty ninth day of May One thousand eight hundred and fifty seven and all which said premises thereinbefore described constituted the property known by the description of All and singular the messuage or dwelling house cottage gardens closes of land and hereditaments known as Stafford Lake Farm and Wisdom Corner situate within the parish of Bisley in the said County of Surrey containing together exclusive of the outside fences belonging thereto Fourteen acres three roods and eight perches or thereabouts and being numbered 219, 232, 233, 236 and 241 on the Ordnance survey and were delineated on the plan drawn on the said surrender and therein colored green (such plan being a copy of the Ordnance Map) To the use of the said Alfred Paget Humphrey his heirs and assigns according to the custom of this Manor by and under the rents fines heriots suits and services therefore due and of right accustomed.

And thereupon at this Court upon the first proclamation came here into Court the said Alfred Paget Humphrey by his said Attorney and humbly prayed to be admitted tenant to All that the said customary messuage or tenement together with the barn and other outbuildings orchards gardens yards backsides and appurtenances thereunto belonging formerly in the tenure of William Johnson or his assigns which came into the hands of the Lord of the said Manor on the surrender of the said George Drury To whom the Lord of the Manor aforesaid by his Deputy Steward aforesaid granted the same and delivered seizin by the rod To hold to the said Alfred Paget Humphrey his heirs and assigns for ever by Copy of Court Roll at the Will of the Lord according to the custom of the said Manor by the yearly rent of One shilling and sixpence Heriot when it shall happen suit of Court and other services and customs therefore formerly due and of right accustomed And so he was by his said Attorney admitted tenant thereof in form aforesaid Gave to the Lord as a fine for such his admittance as appears afterwards and his fealty was respited
