At this Court the Homage being sworn and charged upon their Oaths do say and Present and it is attested by the Steward that upon examining the Court Books of this Manor at this Court it appeared to the said Homage and Steward that at a Special Court Baron holden for this Manor on the Twenty fifth day of January One thousand seven hundred and ninety three the Homage did then present that Robert Goodener late a Copyhold or Customary Tenant of this Manor died seized to him and his heirs of two several Estates held by him by Copy of Court Roll parcel of this Manor (that is to say) All that parcel of Customary arable Land with the appurtenances called Lomepitts lying in three severals containing in the whole by estimation Nine Acres and late in the occupation of the said Robert Goodener abutting upon Lands of William Goodener on the South and on the Lands of Solomon Dayrolle on the East And also three Acres of Land whereon a Messuage has been erected with the appurtenances formerly parcel of the Waste of the said Manor lying at Hassell Hall between Cowshott and Staverk Lane in Bisley within this Manor and late in the Tenure of the said Robert Goodener Subject to certain Conditional Surrenders made by the said Robert Goodener to Thomas Attfield and Henry Smith as therein mentioned And that the said Robert Goodener left two Daughters namely Ann who had intermarried with Thomas Bunces and Mary who had intermarried with John Sales And that thereupon the same Premises descended to and became vested in the said Ann and Mary as the Coheirs at Law of the said Robert Goodener in equal Moieties And that the said Ann and Mary were each of them at that Court admitted severally to a Moiety of the said two Estates And then surrendered their several Moieties To the use of Joseph Stringfield his heirs and assigns for ever and that he was thereupon admitted thereto
Now at this Court the Homage Present that by the Custom of this Manor the whole of the said two Estates descended to the said Ann the wife of the said Thomas Bunces upon the Death of the said Robert Goodener she being his eldest Daughter he having died intestate And so the Presentment of the said Homage at the said Court held the Twenty fifth day of January One thousand seven hundred and ninety three should have been And it also appears upon the Court Book that the Conditional Surrender which had been made to the said Thomas Attfield hath since been satisfied by the said Henry Smith Now at this Court came into Court in her proper person the said Ann the wife of the said Thomas Bunces and humbly prayed to be admitted tenant to All that the said parcel of Customary arable Land with the appurtenances called Lomepitts lying in three severals containing in the whole by estimation Nine Acres and late in the occupation of the said Robert Goodener which came into the hands of the Lord of this Manor on the death of the said Robert Goodener To whom the Lord of this Manor by his Steward Granted the same and delivered Seizin thereof by the Rod To hold to the said Ann Bunces her heirs and assigns for ever by Copy of Court Roll at the Will of the Lord according to the Custom of the said Manor by the yearly rent of Eight Pence Heriot when it shall happen Suit of Court and other services and Customs therefore formerly due and of right accustomed And so she was admitted Tenant thereof in form aforesaid Gave to the Lord for a Fine nothing for such admittance the same being for further Assurance only and a Fine having been paid on the death of the said Robert Goodener her father And her Fealty was pardoned.
Also at this Court came again into Court in her proper person the said Ann the wife of the said Thomas Bunces and humbly prayed to be admitted tenant to All those the said Three Acres of Land whereon a Messuage hath been erected with the appurtenances formerly part of the Waste of the said Manor lying at Hassell Hall between Cowshott and Staverk Lane in Bisley within the said Manor which also came into the hands of the Lord of this Manor on the death of the said Robert Goodener To whom the Lord of this Manor by his Steward Granted the same and delivered Seizin thereof by the Rod To hold to the said Ann Bunces her heirs and assigns for ever by Copy of Court Roll at the Will of the Lord according to the Custom of the said Manor by the yearly rent of Sixpence Heriot when it shall happen Suit of Court and other services and Customs therefore formerly due and of right accustomed And so she was admitted Tenant thereof in form aforesaid Gave to the Lord for a Fine for such admittance nothing the same being for further Assurance only and a fine having been paid on the death of the said Robert Goodener her father And her Fealty is pardoned.
The Homage also Present a certain Deed Poll or Deputation under the Hand and Seal of Joseph Pickstone Gentleman Steward of the said Manor in the following words Viz.t “Know all Men by these Presents that I Joseph Pickstone of Guildford in the County of Surrey Gentleman Chief Steward of the Manor of Bisley in the said County Have made constituted and appointed And by these Presents Do make constitute and appoint John Baker of Wokeing in the County of Surrey Yeoman my true and lawful Deputy for the purpose and turn only following (that is to say) for me and in my stead and place to accept and take of and from Joseph Stringfield late of Horsell in the County of Surrey Gentleman one of the Copyhold or Customary Tenants of the said Manor one or more Surrender or Surrenders of All that parcel of Customary Arable Land with the appurtenances called Lomepitts lying in Three Severals containing in the whole by estimation Nine Acres late in the occupation of Robert Goodener abutting upon the Lands of William Goodener on the on the South and on the Lands of Solomon Dayrolle on the East together with all the rights members and appurtenances to the same belonging or in any wise appertaining And also All three Acres of Land whereon a Messuage has been erected with the appurtenances formerly parcel of the Waste of the said Manor lying at Hassell Hall between Cowshott and Staverk Lane in Bisley within the said Manor and late in the Tenure of the said Robert Goodener his undertenants or assigns And of All the estate right title interest equity and benefit of redemption property claim and demand whatsoever of him the said Joseph Stringfield in to and out of the same and every part and parcel thereof To the only proper use and behoof of Thomas La Coste of Chertsey in the County of Surrey Mealman and Joseph Cobb of Tudor Street Blackfriars London Merchant their heirs and assigns for ever And to or for no other use intent or purpose whatsoever as fully and effectually to all intents and purposes as if I myself was personally present at the doing thereof In Witness whereof I the said Joseph Pickstone have hereunto set my Hand and Seal the Twenty seventh day of September in year of our Lord One thousand eight hundred and six – Joseph Pickstone – Dated and Delivered being first duly stamped in the Presence of Joseph Bately J.r”
The Homage also Present that out of Court and since the last Court to wit on the Twenty ninth day of September One thousand eight hundred and six the said Joseph Stringfield did Surrender into the hands of the Lord of the said Manor by the acceptance of John Baker Deputy Steward of this Manor for that purpose only duly appointed by Joseph Pickstone Gentleman Chief Steward of the said Manor by Virtue of the Deputation now presented and inrolled at this Court All that the said parcel of Customary Arable Land called Lomepitts And also All those the said three Acres of Land lying at Hassell Hall between Cowshott and Staverk Lane in Bisley And All the estate right title interest benefit and equity of redemption property claim and demand of him the said Joseph Stringfield of in and to the same To the only proper and absolute use and behoof of Thomas La Coste of Chertsey in the County of Surrey Mealman and Joseph Cobb of Tudor Street Blackfriars London Merchant their heirs and assigns for ever
The Homage also Present that the said Henry Smith who had been admitted to the said two several Copyhold Estates at a General Court Baron holden for this Manor on the Eighth Day of May One thousand seven hundred and eighty three on the forfeited Surrenders of the said Robert Goodener but subject to such Equity of Redemption as the said Robert Goodener was entitled unto died sometime since seized to him and his heirs of the said several Estates subject as aforesaid And that William Smith of Cowshott in the Parish of Pirbright in the County of Surrey is his Nephew and next heir and also sole Executor named in and by his last Will and Testament and became entitled to all Principal and Interest monies due upon the several Surrenders made by the said Robert Goodener to the said Henry Smith and Thomas Attfield.
Now at this court came here into Court in his proper person the said William Smith and prayed to be admitted Tenant to All that the said parcel of Customary arable Land with the appurtenances called Lomepitts And also to All those the said Three Acres of Land and the Messuage thereon erected To which said William Smith the Lord of this Manor by his Steward aforesaid Granted the same and delivered Seizin thereof by the Rod To hold to the said William Smith his heirs and assigns for ever by two several Copies of Court Roll at the Will of the Lord according to the Custom of this Manor by the several yearly Rents of Eight pence and Six pence Heriots when the same shall happen Suit of Court and other services and Customs therefore formerly due and of right accustomed Subject as aforesaid And so he was admitted Tenant thereof in form aforesaid Gave to the Lord nothing as a Fine for such his Estate to be had in the premises the said Admittance being for further Assurance only And the said Henry Smith having paid Fines on his Admittance And his Fealty was respited.
At this court came again here into Court in his proper person the said William Smith and acknowledged that he had this Day had and received of and from the said Thomas La Coste and Joseph Cobb all Principal and Interest monies due and owing to him as Executor as aforesaid upon the said several Conditional Surrenders heretofore made by the said Robert Goodener deceased And desired that such his Acknowledgement of having received such Principal and Interest Monies might be inrolled upon the Court Rolls or Books of the said Manor
At this court came here into Court in their proper persons the said William Smith and Thomas Bunces and Ann his Wife (the said Ann being first separately examined apart from her said Husband by the Chief Steward aforesaid and Consenting) and Surrendered into the hands of the Lord of the said Manor by the rod and by the acceptance of the said Steward and according to the custom of this Manor All that the said parcel of Customary arable Land with the appurtenances called Lomepitts lying in three Severals containing in the whole by estimation Nine Acres And also the said Three Acres of Land and the Messuage thereon erected with the appurtenances formerly parcel of the Waste of the said Manor lying at Hassell Hall between Cowshott and Staverk Lane in Bisley aforesaid And all their estate right title interest benefit and equity of redemption Claim and Demand whatsoever therein or thereto To the only use and behoof of the said Thomas La Coste and Joseph Cobb their heirs and assigns for ever according to the Custom of the said Manor Whereupon the said Thomas La Coste and Joseph Cobb being present here in Court in their proper persons humbly prayed to be admitted Tenants to All that the said parcel of Customary arable Land with the appurtenances called Lomepitts in pursuance of the said Surrenders of the said Joseph Stringfield and William Smith and Thomas Bunces and Ann his Wife To whom the Lord of the Manor aforesaid by his Steward aforesaid Granted the same and delivered Seizin thereof by the Rod To hold to the said Thomas La Coste and Joseph Cobb their heirs and assigns for ever by Copy of Court Roll at the Will of the Lord according to the Custom of the said Manor by the yearly Rent of Eight pence Heriot when it shall happen Suit of Court and other services and Customs therefore formerly due and of right accustomed Subject as aforesaid And so they were admitted Tenants thereof in form aforesaid Gave to the Lord as a Fine for such his Estate to be had in the premises as appears in the Margin [£10 10s] And their Fealties were respited.
And afterwards the said Thomas La Coste and Joseph Cobb being still present here in Court in their proper persons humbly prayed to be admitted Tenants to All those the said three Acres of Land with the Messuage thereon erected at Hassell Hall in pursuance of the said Surrenders of the said Joseph Stringfield and William Smith and Thomas Bunces and Ann his Wife To whom the Lord of the Manor aforesaid by his Steward aforesaid Granted the same and delivered Seizin thereof by the Rod To hold to the said Thomas La Coste and Joseph Cobb their heirs and assigns for ever by Copy of Court Roll at the Will of the Lord according to the Custom of the said Manor by the yearly Rent of Sixpence Heriot when it shall happen Suit of Court and other services and Customs therefore formerly due and of right accustomed Subject as aforesaid And so they were admitted Tenants thereof in form aforesaid Gave to the Lord as a Fine for such his Estate to be had in the premises as appears in the Margin [£7 10s] And their fealties were respited.
And immediately after such their said several Admittances came here again into Court in their proper persons the said Thomas La Coste and Joseph Cobb and Surrendered into the hands of the Lord of the said Manor by the Rod and by the acceptance of the Steward aforesaid according to the custom of this Manor All that the said parcel of Customary Arable Land with the appurtenances called Lomepitts And also the said Three Acres of Land and the Messuage thereon erected lying at Hassell Hall To the use and behoof of Ann Dover Daughter of Robert Dover of Worplesdon in the County of Surrey Yeoman her heirs and assigns for ever according to the Custom of the said Manor Whereupon the said Ann Dover being present here in Court in her proper person humbly prayed to be admitted Tenant to All that the said parcel of Customary arable Land called Lomepitts with the appurtenances in pursuance of the last mentioned Surrender To whom the Lord of the Manor aforesaid by his Steward aforesaid Granted the same and delivered Seizin thereof by the Rod To hold to the said Ann Dover her heirs and assigns for ever by Copy of Court Roll at the Will of the Lord according to the Custom of the said Manor by the yearly Rent of Eight pence Heriot when it shall happen Suit of Court and other Services and Customs therefore formerly due and of right accustomed And so she was admitted Tenant thereof in form aforesaid Gave to the Lord as a Fine for such her Admittance as appears in the Margin [£10 10s] And her Fealty was pardoned.
And again at this Court the said Ann Dover being still present in her proper person humbly prayed to be admitted Tenant to The said Three Acres of Land with the Messuage thereon erected lying at Hassell Hall in Pursuance of the said last mentioned Surrender To whom the Lord of the Manor aforesaid by his Steward aforesaid Granted the same and delivered Seizin thereof by the Rod To hold to the said Ann Dover her heirs and assigns for ever by Copy of Court Roll at the Will of the Lord according to the Custom of the said Manor by the yearly Rent of Six Pence Heriot when it shall happen Suit of Court and other Services and Customs therefore formerly due and of right accustomed And so she was admitted Tenant thereof in form aforesaid Gave to the Lord as a Fine for such her Estate therein to be had as appears in the Margin [£7 10s] And her Fealty was pardoned.
And immediately after such the Admittances of the said Ann Dover she the said Ann Dover being still present in Court in her proper person Surrendered into the hands of the Lord of the said Manor by the Rod and by the acceptance of the Steward aforesaid according to the custom of this Manor All and singular the premises to which she had at this Court immediately before been admitted To the use and behoof of such Person or Persons and for such Estate and Interest therein As she the said Ann Dover shall in or by her last Will and Testament in Writing Give Devise Limit Direct or appoint the same
The Homage also Present a certain Surrender taken out of Court and since the last Court in the following words Viz.t “Manor of Bisley in the County of Surrey. Be it remembered that on the Twelfth Day of November in the year of our Lord One thousand eight hundred and six Philip Gyles of the Parish of Bisley in the County of Surrey Gardener one of the Copyhold or Customary Tenants of the said Manor personally came before Joseph Hockley Gentleman Deputy of Joseph Pickstone Gentleman Chief Steward of the Courts of the said Manor out of Court and Hath Surrendered and by these Presents Doth Surrender into the hands of the Lord of the said Manor by the Rod and by the acceptance of the said Deputy Steward according to the Custom of the said Manor All that Cottage or Tenement with all the Lands thereunto belonging containing by estimation One Acre and an half or thereabouts formerly in the occupation of John Crouch and late of John Carman situate lying and being within and held of the said Manor by the yearly Rent of Sixpence Heriot when it shall happen Suit of Court and other Services And all the Estate right title interest use trust property possession claim and demand whatsoever of him the said Philip Gyles of in to or out of the said Cottage or Tenements Lands and Premises To the only use and behoof of Thomas Waterer of Crastock in the Parish of Wokeing in the said County of Surrey Farmer his heirs and assigns for ever Provided always and upon this Condition Nevertheless that if the said Philip Gyles his heirs executors administrators or assigns do and shall well and truly pay or cause to be paid unto the said Thomas Waterer his executors administrators or assigns the full Sum of Fifty Pounds of lawful money of the united Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland Current in England together with lawful Interest for the same upon the Twelfth Day of May next ensuing the Date of these Presents without any Deduction or Abatement to be made or taken out of the same on any account whatsoever Then this Surrender to be void or else to remain in full force and virtue- Philip Gyles – This Surrender was taken the Day and year first above written by the acceptance of me – Joseph Hockley Deputy Steward.“

At this Court came here into Court in his proper person William Smith of Bisley and humbly prayed to be admitted Tenant to All that Parcel of Copyhold Land called Wheat Leaz with the appurtenances containing by estimation Ten Acres more or less situate in the Parish of Bisley within the Manor aforesaid which came into the hands of the Lord of this Manor on the Surrender of Thomas Sago as presented at the last General Court Baron holden for this Manor To whom the Lord of the Manor aforesaid by his Steward aforesaid Granted the same and delivered Seizin thereof by the Rod To hold to the said William Smith his heirs and assigns for ever by Copy of Court Roll at the Will of the Lord according to the Custom of the said Manor by the yearly Rent of One shilling Heriot when it shall happen Suit of Court and other Services and Customs therefore formerly due and of right accustomed And so he was admitted Tenant thereof in form aforesaid Gave to the Lord as a Fine for such his Admittance as appears in the Margin [£13 13s] And his Fealty was respited.
And again at this Court came here into Court in his proper person the said William Smith and humbly prayed to be admitted Tenant to All that One Messuage with the appurtenances at Gateshed End with the Barn Garden Orchard and about one Acre and an half of Land to the same adjoining and belonging lying within the said Manor heretofore in the occupation of Thomas May which Came into the hands of the Lord of this Manor on the Surrender of the said Thomas Sago as presented at the last General Court Baron holden for this Manor To whom the Lord of the Manor aforesaid by his Steward aforesaid Granted the same and delivered Seizin thereof by the Rod To hold to the said William Smith his heirs and assigns for ever by Copy of Court Roll at the Will of the Lord according to the Custom of the said Manor by the yearly Rent of four pence Heriot when it shall happen Suit of Court and other Services and Customs therefore formerly due and of right accustomed And so he was admitted Tenant thereof in form aforesaid Gave to the Lord as a Fine for such his Admittance as appears in the Margin [£6 1s 6d] And his Fealty was respited.
And again at this Court came here into Court in his proper person the said William Smith and humbly prayed to be admitted Tenant to All that quarter of an Acre of Land with the appurtenances in Bisley within this Manor late Richard Freelands whereon a Cottage did lately stand which also came into the hands of the Lord of this Manor on the Surrender of the said Thomas Sago as presented at the last General Court Baron holden for this Manor To whom the Lord of the Manor aforesaid by his Steward aforesaid Granted the same and delivered Seizin thereof by the Rod To hold to the said William Smith his heirs and assigns for ever by Copy of Court Roll at the Will of the Lord according to the Custom of the said Manor by the yearly Rent of One Penny Heriot when it shall happen Suit of Court and other Services and Customs therefore formerly due and of right accustomed And so he was admitted Tenant thereof in form aforesaid Gave to the Lord as a Fine for such his Admittance as appears in the Margin [5s 6d] And his Fealty was respited.
And again at this Court came here into Court the said William Smith in his proper person and humbly prayed to be admitted Tenant to All those Copyhold Lands Arable Meadow and Pasture with the appurtenances containing by estimation Nineteen Acres more or less in the parish of Bisley Which came into the hands of the Lord of this Manor on the Death of James Nesmith as presented at the last General Court Baron holden for this Manor To whom the Lord of the Manor aforesaid by his Steward aforesaid Granted the same and delivered Seizin thereof by the Rod To hold to the said William Smith and his assigns for and during the term of his natural Life by Copy of Court Roll at the Will of the Lord according to the Custom of the said Manor by the yearly Rent of _________ Heriot when it shall happen Suit of Court and other Services and Customs therefore formerly due and of right accustomed And so he was admitted Tenant thereof in form aforesaid Gave to the Lord as a Fine for such his Estate to be had in the premises as appears in the Margin [£37] And his Fealty was respited.
And again at this Court came here into Court in his proper person the said William Smith and humbly prayed to be admitted Tenant to One parcel of Land called Loompitts containing by estimation Six Acres more or less in the said Parish and Manor of Bisley Which came into the hands of the Lord of this Manor on the Death of James Nesmith as presented at the last General Court Baron holden for this Manor To whom the Lord of the Manor aforesaid by his Steward aforesaid Granted the same and delivered Seizin thereof by the Rod To hold to the said William Smith and his assigns for and during the term of his natural Life by Copy of Court Roll at the Will of the Lord according to the Custom of the said Manor by the yearly Rent of four pence Heriot when it shall happen Suit of Court and other Services and Customs therefore formerly due and of right accustomed And so he was admitted Tenant thereof in form aforesaid Gave to the Lord as a Fine for such his Estate to be had in the premises as appears in the Margin [£13] And his Fealty was respited.
At this Court came here into Court in her proper person Mary the Wife of the said William Smith and humbly prayed to be admitted Tenant to All those Copyhold Lands Arable Meadow and Pasture with the appurtenances containing by estimation Nineteen Acres more or less in the parish of Bisley Which came into the hands of the Lord of this Manor on the Death of James Nesmith as presented at the last General Court Baron holden for this Manor To whom the Lord of the Manor aforesaid by his Steward aforesaid Granted the same and delivered Seizin thereof by the Rod To hold to the said Mary Smith and her assigns for and during the term of her natural Life by Copy of Court Roll at the Will of the Lord according to the Custom of the said Manor by the yearly Rent of ________ Heriot when it shall happen Suit of Court and other Services and Customs therefore formerly due and of right accustomed And so she was admitted Tenant thereof in form aforesaid Gave to the Lord as a Fine for such her Estate to be had in the premises as appears in the Margin [£18 10s] And her Fealty was respited.
At this Court came here into Court in her proper person Mary the Wife of the said William Smith and humbly prayed to be admitted Tenant to the said One parcel of Land called Loompitts containing by estimation Six Acres more or less in the said Parish and Manor of Bisley Which came into the hands of the Lord of this Manor on the Death of James Nesmith as presented at the last General Court Baron holden for this Manor To whom the Lord of the Manor aforesaid by his Steward aforesaid Granted the same and delivered Seizin thereof by the Rod To hold to the said Mary Smith and her assigns for and during the term of her natural Life by Copy of Court Roll at the Will of the Lord according to the Custom of the said Manor by the yearly Rent of four pence Heriot when it shall happen Suit of Court and other Services and Customs therefore formerly due and of right accustomed And so she was admitted Tenant thereof in form aforesaid Gave to the Lord as a Fine for such her Estate to be had in the premises as appears in the Margin [£6 10s] And her Fealty was respited.
