At this Court Came into Court in their proper persons Thomas Dunkley and Ann his Wife heretofore Ann Washborne Eldest Daughter and by the Custom of this Manor Heir of Thomas Washborne deceased and (the said Ann being first Solely and Separately examined a part from her said Husband by the said Steward and Consenting) Surrendered by the Rod into the Hands of the Lord of the aid Manor by the acceptance of the said Steward according to the Custom of the said Manor One Moiety or half part of All those three Closes of Land formerly Four Closes called Brizes Containing by Estimation Four acres more or less with the appurts lying and being in the Parish and Manor of Bisley aforesaid To the Use and Behoof of Mary Higgs of reading in the County of Berks Widow her heirs and Assigns forever Whereupon at this Court Came into Court the said Mary Higgs by Thomas Ireland Gentleman her Attorney and humbly prayed of the Lord to be admitted to the said Moiety in Pursuance of the said Surrender To whom the Lord of this Manor by his said Steward Granted the same To Hold to the said Mary Higgs her heirs and Assigns forever by Copy of Court Roll at the Will of the Lord according to the Custom of the said Manor by the Yearly Rent of _______ Heriot when it shall happen Suit of Court and other Customs and Services therefore formerly due and of right Accustomed And she Gave to the Lord as a Fine for such her Admittance as appears in the Margin [£2.16s.3d] She is admitted Tenant thereof hath Seizin by the Rod and her Fealty is respited.
And immediately after such admittance Came again into Court the said Mary Higgs by her said Attorney and Surrendered by the Rod into the Hands of the Lord of this Manor by the acceptance of the said Steward according to the Custom of this Manor The said Moiety with the Appurts to which she was just now admitted To the Use and Behoof of such Person or Persons and for such Estate and Estates Intents or Purposes and under such Directions Limitations and Appointments as She should in and by her last Will and Testament in Writing duly Executed Limit direct or appoint.
Know all men by these Presents that I Mary Higgs of Reading in the County of Berks Widow Have made ordained constituted and Appointed and by these Presents Do make ordain constitute and Appoint Thomas Ireland of Reading aforesaid Gentleman my true and lawful Attorney for me and in my Name Place and Stead to appear at the next or any other Court Baron to be held for the Manor of Bisley in the County of Surry and then and there to be admitted Tenant to one Undivided Moiety or Fourth part or Share of and in All those three Closes of Land formerly Four Closes called Brizes containing by Estimation Four acres more or less with the Appurtenances lying and being in the Parish and Manor of Bisley aforesaid heretofore in the Tenure of George Rempnant Junior Since of Moses Everet and now of John Didman And from and after such admittance for me and in my Name Place and Stead to Surrender into the Hands of the Lords of the said Manor the said One Undivided Moiety or Fourth part or Share of and in the said three Closes of Land with the Appurtenances To the Use of such Person or Persons and for such Estate and Estates Intents or Purposes and under such Directions Limitations and Appointments as I shall in and by my last Will and Testament in Writing duly Executed limit direct or Appoint. And I do hereby Give and Grant unto my said Attorney full Power and Authority to do or Cause to be done all and Every such further or other Acts Matters and things in and about the Premises as to him shall seem Meet And I do hereby Ratify and Confirm all and whatsoever my said attorney shall lawfully do or cause to be done in and about the Premises In Witness whereof I have hereunto Set my Hand and Seal this twenty Fourth Day of October in the Year of our Lord one thousand Seven Hundred and Seventy one. Mary Higgs Sealed and delivered (being first duly Stampt) in the Presence of Mary Clarke Edward Haniston.
The Homage present that William Goreing who held of the Lord of this Manor as of this Manor to him and his Heirs by Copy of Court Roll at the Will of the Lord according to the Custom of this Manor by the Yearly Rent of one Shilling All those two Closes of Arable Land called the Bisley Fields and Float Fields containing by Estimation ten Acres more or less Situate lying and being in Bisley aforesaid within this Manor with all and Every the Appurts Died Since the last Court Seized thereof Whereupon an Heriot became due to and ought to have been Seized for the use of the Lord but the said William Goreing at the time of his Death had no living Cattle and that John Goreing of Worplesdon Yeoman is his only Brother and next Heir of full Age Whereupon at this Court the First Proclamation is now made if the said John Goreing or such other Person or Persons who hath or have a right to be admitted to the said Premisses will Come into Court and take the Same out of the Lords Hands he She or they shall be heard but Nobody Came And thereupon the first Proclamation and Default are here inrolled.
At this Court came into Court in his proper Person James Fairbrother one of the Copyhold or Customary Tenants of this Manor and Surrendered by the Rod into the Hands of the Lord of the aid Manor by the Acceptance of the said Steward according to the Custom of the said Manor All that Cottage or Moiety of Cottage Garden and Piece of Land lying in a Lane called Queen Lane Purchased by George Clifton of Henry Wickham with the Appurts And also all that Copyhold Cottage or Moiety of Cottage purchased by George Clifton of Edmund Clifton his Father together with the Barns Buildings Gardens Orchards and Land to the said Cottages or Moieties or Either of them belonging And all Commons Ways Waters Easements and Appurts to the said Premes or any part thereof belonging To the Use and Behoof of William Tunnell of Bisley aforesaid Husbandman his Heirs and Assigns forever Whereupon at this Court Came into Court in his proper Person the said William Tunnell and humbly prayed to be admitted to All that the said Cottage or Moiety of a Cottage Garden and Piece of Land lying in a Lane called Queen Lane Purchased by George Clifton of Henry Wickham with the Appurts To whom the Lord of this Manor by his said Steward Granted the Same To Hold to him the said William Tunnell his Heirs and Assigns forever by Copy of Court Roll at the Will of the Lord According to the Custom of this Manor by the Yearly Rent of Six Pence Heriot when is shall happen Suit of Court and other Customs and Services therefore formerly due and of Right Accustomed and he Gave to the Lord as a Fine for such his admittance as hereafter mentioned he is admitted Tenant thereof hath Seizin by the Rod but his Fealty is respited.
And also whereupon at this Court Came again into Court in his proper Person the said William Tunnell and humbly prayed of the Lord to be admitted to All that the said Copyhold Cottage or Moiety of a Cottage purchased by George Clifton of Edmund Clifton his Father with the Appurts To whom the Lord of this Manor by his said Steward Granted the Same To Hold to him the said William Tunnell his Heirs and Assigns forever by Copy of Court Roll at the Will of the Lord According to the Custom of this Manor by the Yearly Rent of Six Pence Heriot when is shall happen Suit of Court and other Customs and Services therefore formerly due and of Right Accustomed and he Gave to the Lord as a Fine for such his Second admittance and for the said former admittance as appears in the Margin [£3] he is admitted Tenant thereof hath Seizin by the Rod and his Fealty is respited.
