The General Court Baron of The Right Honorable Arthur George Earl of Onslow Lord of the said Manor there held in and for the said Manor on Monday the twelfth day of November in the second year of the reign of our Sovereign Lady Victoria by the Grace of God of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland Queen Defender of the faith And in the Year of our Lord One Thousand eight hundred and thirty eight Before Joseph Hockley the younger Gentleman Deputy of Joseph Hockley the elder Gentleman Steward there.

Death of Elizabeth Woods
The Homage being sworn and charged on their Oath present that Elizabeth Woods (late the Wife and afterwards the Widow of William Woods) one of the Copyhold or Customary Tenants of the said Manor who held to her and her heirs by Copy of Court Roll at the Will of the Lord according to the Custom of the said Manor One Messuage Garden and Orchard and the Land thereto belonging with the appurtenances formerly in the occupation of John Snelling afterwards of James Martin since of Richard Daborn late of Stephen Collyer and now or late of James Collyer by the yearly rent of four pence Heriot when it shall happen Suit of Court and other Customs and Services Died since the last Court so thereof seised Whereupon an Heriot to wit the best live Beast of the said Elizabeth Woods became due to the Lord of this Manor but that none was seized she not having any live Animal at the time of her decease
Her Will
And the Homage further present that the said Elizabeth Woods in and by her last Will and Testament in Writing bearing date the first day of July One thousand eight hundred and thirty seven (the Probate whereof was produced and read in open Court) amongst other things gave and devised as follows “I give and devise unto my said Son James Woods and his heirs All that my Copyhold Messuage or Tenement Garden Land and premises with the appurtenances situate within and holden of the Manor of Bisley in the said County of Surrey and now in the occupation of James Collyer To hold the same unto my said Son James Woods his heirs and assigns for ever at the Will of the Lord and according to the Custom of the said Manor”
1st Proclamation
Now at this Court the first Proclamation was made for the said James Woods or any other person or persons who hath or have a right to be admitted to the said Messuage Garden Orchard and Land thereunto belonging which came into the hands of the Lord of this Manor on the death of the said Elizabeth Woods to come into Court and take the same out of the hands of the Lord of this Manor but no one came Whereupon the first Proclamation and default are here inrolled.

Absolute Surrender James Hill to William Woods
The Homage also present a certain other Surrender taken out of Court and since the last General Court to wit on the twenty fifth day of January One Thousand eight hundred and thirty four Whereby James Hill of Bisley in the County of Surrey Laborer one of the Copyhold or Customary Tenants of the said Manor in consideration of the Sum of twenty pounds to him paid by William Woods of Knaphill in the Parish of Horsell in the County of Surrey Yeoman did surrender into the hands of the Lord of the said Manor by the Rod and by the acceptance of the Steward of the said Manor according to the custom thereof All that piece or parcel of the Waste Land of the said Manor of Bisley lying near Riding Hill containing by estimation eighty rods more or less lately inclosed by the said James Hill and upon which he had erected and set up a Cottage or Tenement together with the said Cottage or Tenement and the appurtenances  To the only proper and absolute use and Behoof of the said William Woods his heirs and assigns for ever

Conditional Surrender Jane Loveland to Edward Smith
The Homage also present a certain other Surrender taken out of Court and since the last General Court in the words following to wit “Manor of Bisley in the County of Surrey - Be it remembered that on the twenty second day of March in the year of our Lord One thousand eight hundred and thirty four Jane Loveland of Bisley in the County of Surrey Widow one of the Copyhold or Customary Tenants of the said Manor personally came before Joseph Hockley Gentleman Steward of the Courts of the said Manor out of Court and in consideration of the Sum of One hundred and fifty pounds of lawful Money of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland of English value and currency to her the said Jane Loveland in hand well and truly paid by Edward Smith of Bisley aforesaid Victualler Hath surrendered And by these presents doth surrender into the hands of the Lord of the said Manor by the Rod and by the acceptance of the said Steward and according to the Custom of the said Manor  All that Customary Messuage or Tenement with the Orchard formerly in the tenure of Philip Roberts and one Close of Land to the same belonging containing by estimation one acre more or less One Acre of Land more or less in Neltro with the appurtenances held by the yearly rent of ten pence Heriot Suit of Court and other Services Also all that parcel of Land in the Common field called Neltro in Bisley by estimation one acre more or less and half an acre of Meadow in Churchbourne Mead with the appurtenances in Bisley  held by the yearly rent of _________ Heriot Suit of Court and other Services  Also all that Messuage or Tenement with the appurtenances called Whichoode and one Close of Land adjoining by estimation one acre lying in Bisley aforesaid held by the yearly rent of _________ Heriot Suit of Court and other Services Also two acres of Land more or less lying in the Common field called Neltro and two acres of Land and half an Acre of Land lying in the Common field called Widecroft in the said Manor of Bisley held by the yearly rent of four pence Heriot Suit of Court and other Services And also all that one Close of Customary Arable Land late Wood Land containing by estimation two acres more or less and two acres of Land more or less lying in the Common field called North Hill held by the yearly rent of Six pence Heriot Suit of Court and other Services (to all which Premises the said Jane Loveland was admitted Tenant at a Court Baron held for the said Manor on the twenty fourth day of October last past) And the reversion and reversions remainder and remainders rents issues and profits thereof And also all the estate right title interest trust property possession claim and demand whatsoever of her the said Jane Loveland of in to or out of the same premises and every part and parcel thereof  To the only proper and absolute Use and Behoof of the said Edward Smith his heirs and assigns for ever  according to the Custom of the said Manor Provided always and upon condition nevertheless that if the said Jane Loveland her heirs executors administrators or assigns do and shall well and truly pay or cause to be paid unto the said Edward Smith his executors administrators or assigns the full and just Sum of One hundred and fifty pounds together with Interest for the same after the rate of four Pounds for One hundred pounds for a Year of lawful Money of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland of English value and currency upon the twenty second day of September next ensuing the date hereof without any deduction or abatement to be made or taken out of the same on any account whatsoever and without fraud or further delay Then this Surrender to be void and of no effect otherwise to be and remain in full force and virtue – The Mark of X  Jane Loveland  This Surrender was taken the day and year first above written By the acceptance of me Joseph Hockley Steward  In the presence of James Johnson. Received on the day and year first above written of and from the above named Edward Smith the Sum of One hundred and fifty pounds being the consideration Money above mentioned to be paid by him to me - The Mark of X  Jane Loveland  Witness James Johnson  £150.”
[Margin note: Be it remembered that on the twelfth day of November One thousand eight hundred and forty two Edward Smith in this Surrender named did acknowledge that he had that day received of and from James Hone and Jane his Wife late Jane Loveland Widow in this Surrender named All Principal and Interest Monies due and owing upon and by virtue of this Surrender And the said Edward Smith did by writing under his hand of that date authorise & empower and desire the Steward of this Manor to enter his acknowledgement of having received such Satisfaction upon the Court Rolls or Books of the said Manor accordingly.  Witness my Hand  Joseph Hockley  Steward.]

Conditional Surrender John Robinson to Edward Smith
The Homage also present a certain other Surrender taken out of Court and since the last General Court in the words following to wit “Manor of Bisley in the County of Surrey - Be it remembered that on the fifth day of April in the year of our Lord One thousand eight hundred and thirty four John Robinson of Bisley in the County of Surrey Cordwainer one of the Copyhold or Customary Tenants of the said Manor personally came before Joseph Hockley Gentleman Steward of the Courts of the said Manor out of Court and in consideration of the Sum of fifty pounds of lawful Money of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland current in England to him in hand well and truly paid by Edward Smith of Bisley aforesaid Victualler at or immediately before the making of this Surrender Hath surrendered And by these presents doth surrender into the hands of the Lord of the said Manor by the rod and by the acceptance of the said Steward and according to the Custom of the said Manor  All that Messuage or Tenement with the Outhouses Gardens and appurtenances thereunto belonging situate within the said Manor heretofore in the possession of John Towers since of John Stiles late of Sarah Hill since of John Edwards and now of Thomas Hughes together with the other Messuages or Tenements and Buildings lately erected on the said premises (to which Premises the said John Robinson was admitted Tenant at a Court Baron held for the said Manor on the twenty sixth day of October One thousand eight hundred and twenty) And the reversion and reversions remainder and remainders rents issues and profits thereof And also all the estate right title interest property benefit and equity of redemption claim and demand whatsoever of him the said John Robinson of in and to the said premises and every part and parcel thereof  To the only proper Use and Behoof of the said Edward Smith his heirs and assigns for ever according to the Custom of the said Manor Provided always and upon this condition nevertheless that if the said John Robinson his heirs executors administrators or assigns do and shall well and truly pay or cause to be paid unto the said Edward Smith his executors administrators or assigns the full and just Sum of fifty pounds together with Interest for the same after the rate of four Pounds for One hundred pounds for a Year of lawful Money of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland current in England upon the fifth day of October next ensuing the date hereof without any deduction or abatement to be made or taken out of the same on any account whatsoever and without fraud or further delay (over and besides the principal Sum of One hundred pounds and the Interest now due and from henceforth to grow due for the same secured by a Conditional Surrender of the same premises made by the said John Robinson to the said Edward Smith on the twenty fourth day of March One thousand eight hundred and twenty seven) then this Surrender to be void and of no effect otherwise to be and remain in full force and virtue – The Mark of X  John Robinson  This Surrender was taken the day and year first above written By the acceptance of me Joseph Hockley Stew.d  In the presence of Joseph Hockley Jun.r - Received on the day and year first above written of and from the above named Edward Smith the Sum of fifty pounds being the consideration Money above mentioned to be paid by him to me - The Mark of X  John Robinson  Witness Joseph Hockley Jun.r  £50.”
[Margin note: Be it remembered that on the seventeenth day of February One thousand eight hundred and fifty five William Chandler and Daniel Gosden Executors of Edward Smith in this Surrender named did acknowledge that they had that day had and received of and from John Robinson in this Surrender named All Principal and Interest Monies due and owing upon and by virtue of this Surrender And the said William Chandler and Daniel Gosden did by writing under their hands of that date empower and authorise the Steward of this Manor to enter their acknowledgement of having received such Satisfaction upon the Court Rolls or Books of the said Manor accordingly.  Witness my Hand  Joseph Hockley]

Conditional Surrender Thomas Gosden to James Searle
The Homage also present a certain other Surrender taken out of Court and since the last
General Court in the words following (to wit) “The Manor of Bisley in the County of Surrey - Be it remembered that on the fifteenth day of May in the fifth year of the reign of our Sovereign Lord William the fourth by the Grace of God of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland King Defender of the faith and in the year of our Lord One thousand eight hundred and thirty five Thomas Gosden of the Parish of Bisley in the County of Surrey Farmer one of the Copyhold or Customary Tenants of the said Manor came before William Eacott and John Daborn two other of the Copyhold or Customary Tenants of the said Manor in his proper person and in consideration of the Sum of One hundred pounds of lawful Money of Great Britain to him lent and advanced by James Searle hereinafter described by way of loan and at Interest upon the Messuage land and hereditaments hereinafter mentioned out of Court Did surrender into the hands of the Lord of the said Manor by the rod and by the acceptance of us the said two Copyhold or Customary Tenants according to the Custom of the said Manor  All that Customary Messuage or Tenement one Garden one Barn and one Stable with the appurtenances in Bisley Green within this Manor and three quarters of an Acre of Land there to which he the said Thomas Gosden was admitted at a General Court Baron held for the said Manor on the twentieth day of July One thousand eight hundred and fifteen  And also all the estate right title interest use trust property claim and demand whatsoever of him the said Thomas Gosden of in and to the same  To the only use and behoof of James Searle of the said Parish of Bisley Farmer his heirs and assigns for ever at the Will of the Lord according to the Custom of the said Manor Provided always and upon this condition nevertheless that if the said Thomas Gosden his heirs executors administrators or assigns do and shall well and truly pay or cause to be paid unto the said James Searle his executors administrators or assigns the full and just Sum of One hundred pounds of lawful Money of Great Britain current in England on the fifteenth day of November next ensuing the said Surrender and which will be in this present Year of our Lord One thousand eight hundred and thirty five Together with Interest for the same after the rate of five pounds for One hundred pounds for a Year without any deduction or abatement whatsoever for or by reason or on account of any matter cause or thing whatsoever Then the said Surrender shall be void and of no effect or else shall remain in full force and virtue –  Thomas Gosden  Taken the day and year first above written before and by us Tenants of the said Manor and within the said Manor William Eacott Bisley Surrey Farmer – The Mark of X John Daborn Bisley Surrey Labourer  In the presence of Swan Downer Dean Clerk to Mr. John Mears Solicitor Bagshot Surrey - Received on the day and year first above written of and from the above named James Searle the Sum of One hundred pounds being the consideration Money above mentioned to be paid by him to me – Thomas Gosden  Witness Swan Downer Dean  £100.”

Conditional Surrender Stephen Steptoe to Mary Carter
The Homage also present a certain other Surrender taken out of Court and since the last
General Court in the words following to wit “Manor of Bisley in the County of Surrey - Be it remembered that on the sixteenth day of January in the year of our Lord One thousand eight hundred and thirty six Stephen Steptoe of Bisley in the County of Surrey Farmer one of the Copyhold or Customary Tenants of the said Manor came before Joseph Hockley Gentleman Steward of the Courts of the said Manor out of Court and in consideration of the Sum of Seventy five pounds of lawful Money of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland current in England to him in hand well and truly paid by Mary Carter the Wife of Job Carter of Knapphill in the Parish of Wokeing in the County of Surrey Mealman late Mary Hall Spinster at or immediately before the making of this Surrender Hath surrendered And by these presents Doth surrender into the hands of the Lord of the said Manor by the Rod and by the acceptance of the said Steward according to the Custom of the said Manor  All that his Copyhold Close or parcel of Arable Land situate at Bisley aforesaid containing by estimation five acres and seven perches more or less late in the occupation of  Joseph Bedford and now of the said Stephen Steptoe together with the Messuage or Tenement thereon lately erected and built now in the occupation of William Steptoe (to which said Close or parcel of Land the said Stephen Steptoe was admitted Tenant at a Special Court Baron held for the said Manor on the eighth day of October One thousand eight hundred and thirty) And also all those four Acres called Radsells lying in two Closes in Bisley within this Manor one Close whereof is Arable Land and the other Meadow Ground and to which last mentioned premises  the said Stephen Steptoe was admitted Tenant at a General Court Baron holden for the said Manor on the twenty sixth day of October One thousand eight hundred and twenty four on the death of his Father And the reversion and reversions remainder and remainders rents issues and profits thereof And all the estate right title interest property benefit and equity of redemption claim and demand whatsoever of him the said Stephen Steptoe of in and to the said premises and every part and parcel thereof To the only proper use and behoof of the said Mary Carter her heirs and assigns for ever according to the Custom of the said Manor Provided always and upon this condition nevertheless that if the said Stephen Steptoe his heirs executors administrators or assigns do and shall well and truly pay or cause to be paid unto the said Mary Carter her executors administrators or assigns the full and just Sum of Seventy five pounds together with Interest for the same after the rate of five pounds for One hundred pounds for a Year of lawful Money of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland current in England upon the sixteenth day of July next ensuing the date hereof without any deduction or abatement to be made or taken out of the same on any account whatsoever and without fraud or further delay (over and besides the Principal Sum of two hundred and fifty pounds and the interest now due upon and from henceforth to become due for the same secured by a Conditional Surrender of the same Premises made by the said Stephen Steptoe to the said Mary Carter then Mary Hall Spinster on the eighth day of October One thousand eight hundred and thirty) then this Surrender to be void and of no effect otherwise to remain in full force and virtue –  Stephen Steptoe  This Surrender was taken the day and year first above written by the acceptance of me – Joseph Hockley Stew.d  In the presence of Edmund Vincent - Received on the day and year first above written of and from the above named Mary Carter the Sum of Seventy five pounds being the consideration Money above mentioned to be paid by her to me – Stephen Steptoe  Witness Edmund Vincent.” £75
[Margin note: Be it remembered that on the fourth day of March One thousand eight hundred and forty one Job Carter and Mary his Wife in this Surrender named did acknowledge that they that day had and received of and from Sarah Steptoe The Sole Executrix of Stephen Steptoe in this Surrender named All Principal and Interest Monies secured by and due upon this Surrender And also all Principal and Interest Monies due upon and secured by another Conditional Surrender of the same premises made by the said Stephen Steptoe to the said Mary Carter then Mary Hall Spinster on the eighth day of October One thousand eight hundred and thirty for securing the principal Sum of two hundred and fifty pounds and interest  And the said Job Carter and Mary his Wife did by writing under their hands of the first mentioned date authorize and empower the Steward of this Manor to enter their acknowledgement of having received the same and such Satisfaction upon the Court Rolls or Books of the said Manor accordingly.  Witness my Hand  Joseph Hockley  Steward]

Absolute Surrender John Daborn to William Daborn
The Homage also present a certain other Surrender taken out of Court and since the last General Court to wit on the second day of April One thousand eight hundred and thirty six Whereby John Daborn of Chobham in the County of Surrey Laborer one of the copyhold or customary Tenants of the said Manor in consideration of the natural love and affection which he had for his Son William Daborn of Chobham aforesaid Carpenter did surrender into the hands of the Lord of the said Manor by the rod and by the acceptance of the said Steward according to the Custom thereof  All that piece or parcel of Garden Ground containing by admeasurement forty rods little more or less being the North West end of the Garden belonging to and parcel of All that Customary Messuage or Tenement with the edifices buildings garden orchard and curtilage thereto belonging situate in Bisley Green in the Parish of Bisley abutting on the said Green on the South North and East parts then late in the occupation of George Slyfield and since of Floyd with the appurtenances To the Use and Behoof of him the said William Daborn his heirs and assigns for ever.

Conditional Surrender John Field to Thomas Hockley
The Homage also present a certain other Surrender taken out of Court and since the last
General Court in the words following to wit “Manor of Bisley in the County of Surrey - Be it remembered that on the fourth day of February in the year of our Lord One thousand eight hundred and thirty seven John Field of the Parish of Wokeing in the County of Surrey Cordwainer one of the Copyhold or Customary Tenants of the said Manor came before Joseph Hockley Gentleman Steward of the Courts of the said Manor out of Court and in consideration of the Sum of One hundred pounds of lawful Money of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland of English value and currency to him the said John Field in hand well and truly paid by Thomas Hockley of Wadham College in the University of Oxford Gentleman Hath surrendered And by these presents Doth surrender into the hands of the Lord of the said Manor by the Rod and by the acceptance of the said Steward and according to the Custom of the said Manor  All those three pieces of Land being Coppice Ground containing by estimation One Acre and an half called Brook Ground more or less and One close of Land called Rough Ground containing by estimation three Acres with the appurtenances in Bisley held by the yearly rent of two shillings Heriot when it shall happen Suit of Court and other Customs and Services to all which premises the said John Field was admitted at a Special Court Baron held for the said Manor on the twenty eighth day of October One thousand eight hundred and thirty four And the reversion and reversions remainder and remainders rents issues and profits thereof And also all the estate right title interest property possession claim and demand whatsoever of the said John Field of in to or out of the same premises  To the only proper and absolute Use and Behoof of the said Thomas Hockley his heirs and assigns for ever according to the Custom of the said Manor Provided always and upon this condition nevertheless that if the said John Field his heirs executors administrators or assigns do and shall well and truly pay or cause to be paid unto the said Thomas Hockley his executors administrators or assigns the full and just Sum of One hundred pounds together with Interest for the same after the rate of five pounds for One hundred pounds for a Year of lawful Money of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland of English value and currency upon the fourth day of August next ensuing the date hereof without any deduction or abatement to be made or taken out of the same on any whatsoever and without fraud or further delay Then this Surrender to be void and of no effect otherwise to be and remain in full force and virtue –  John Field  This Surrender was taken the day and year first above written by me Joseph Hockley Stew.d – Received on the day of the above written Surrender of and from the above named Thomas Hockley the Sum of One hundred pounds being the consideration Money above mentioned to be paid by him to me – John Field  Witness J Hockley Jun.r  £100.”

Death of James Chandler
The Homage also present that James Chandler one of the Copyhold or Customary Tenants of the said Manor who held to him and his heirs by Copy of Court Roll at the Will of the Lord according to the Custom of the said Manor All that Cottage with a Garden Yard and appurtenances situate lying and being in Bisley aforesaid formerly in the occupation of Henry Pritchett by the yearly rent of two pence Heriot when it shall happen Suit of Court and other Customs and Services Died since the last Court so thereof seised Whereupon an Heriot to wit the best live Beast of the said James Chandler became due to the Lord of this Manor but that none was seized he not having any live Animal at the time of his decease
His Will
And the Homage further present that the said James Chandler in and by his last Will and Testament in Writing bearing date the twelfth day of April One thousand eight hundred and twenty eight (the Probate whereof was produced and read in open Court) amongst other things gave and devised as follows “Also I give and devise unto my said Nephew William Simmonds of Worplesdon aforesaid Smith All that my Copyhold Estate held of the Manor of Bishley situate lying and being in Bishley aforesaid and now in my own occupation  To hold to him my said Nephew William Simmonds his heirs and assigns absolutely for ever at the Will of the Lord and according to the Custom of the said Manor”
Admittance of William Simmonds
Now at this Court upon the first Proclamation came here into Court in his proper person the said William Simmonds and humbly prayed to be admitted Tenant to the said Cottage Garden and appurtenances in Bisley which came into the hands of the Lord of this Manor on the death of the said James Chandler To whom the Lord of the Manor aforesaid by his Deputy Steward aforesaid granted the same and delivered seisin thereof by the Rod To hold to the said William Simmonds by Copy of Court Roll at the Will of the Lord according to the Custom of the said Manor by the yearly rent of two pence Heriot when it shall happen Suit of Court and other Services and Customs therefore formerly due and of right accustomed and so he was admitted Tenant thereof in form aforesaid  Gave to the Lord as a fine for such his admittance as appears in the Margin [£6] and his fealty was respited.

Death of William Cobbett
The Homage also present that William Cobbett one of the Copyhold or Customary Tenants of the said Manor who held to him and his heirs by Copy of Court Roll at the Will of the Lord according to the Custom of the said Manor All that piece of parcel of Waste Land of this Manor lying near Staverk Lake containing by estimation seventy rods more or less lately inclosed by the said William Cobbett with the Cottage or tenement thereon erected with the appurtenances by the yearly rent of One Penny Heriot when it shall happen Suit of Court and other Services and Customs therefore formerly due and of right accustomed Died since the last Court so thereof seised Whereupon an Heriot to wit the best live Beast of the said William Cobbett became due to the Lord of this Manor but that none was seized he not having any live Animal at the time of his decease

And the Homage also present that William Cobbett an Infant of the Age of sixteen Years or thereabouts is his eldest Son and Heir according to the Custom of this Manor
1st Proclamation
Now at this Court the first Proclamation was made for the said William Cobbett or any other person or persons who hath or have a right to be admitted to the said piece or parcel of Land with the Cottage or Tenement thereon erected to come into Court and take the same out of the hands of the Lord of this Manor but no one came Whereupon the first Proclamation and default are here inrolled.

Incroachment of James Hill
The Homage also present that John Hill hath encroached upon the Waste of this Manor by inclosing an Acre and twenty two rods of Land near Riding Hill adjoining his Garden there
Consent to Granting the same
And the Homage aforesaid and also the several other Tenants of this Manor here present do now at this Court consent and agree that the Lord of this Manor may grant the same to the said John Hill for such estate and upon such Terms as he may think Proper.
Grant to John Hill
At this Court the Lord of this Manor by his Deputy Steward aforesaid Doth as far as in him lieth and he lawfully can or may voluntarily grant to John Hill of Bisley in the County of Surrey Laborer and his heirs All that piece or parcel of Land lately inclosed from the Waste containing by estimation one acre and twenty two rods being at Riding Hill on the South West side of the Garden of the said John Hill To have and to hold the same to the said John Hill his heirs and assigns for ever by Copy of Court Roll at the Will of the Lord according to the Custom of the said Manor by the yearly rent of One Penny Heriot best live Beast on the death of every Tenant Suit at the Courts Baron to be held for the said Manor  Suit at the Will of the Lord and such other Services as are customarily rendered by the Copyhold Tenants of the said Manor And so the said John Hill is admitted Tenant thereof hath seizin by the rod and giveth to the Lord as a fine for such his admittance as appears in the Margin [£1 10s] and his fealty is respited.
