The General Court Baron of The Right Honorable Arthur George Earl of Onslow Lord of the said Manor held in and for the said Manor on Monday the thirtieth day of May in the thirty third year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lady Victoria by the Grace of God of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland Queen Defender of the Faith and in the year of our Lord One Thousand eight hundred and seventy Before Thomas Russell Gentleman Steward there.

Absolute Surrender Stephen Eacott to Thomas Litchford Rawlinson
The Homage aforesaid being sworn and charged on their Oath do present a certain Surrender taken out of Court and since the last General Court to wit on the sixteenth day of December one thousand eight hundred and sixty eight Whereby Stephen Eacott of the parish of Bisley in the County of Surrey yeoman one of the Copyhold or Customary tenants of the said Manor in consideration of the sum of Four hundred and twenty pounds to him paid by Thomas Litchford Rawlinson of Bisley aforesaid Yeoman did surrender into the hands of the Lord of the said Manor by the rod and by the acceptance of the Steward of the said Manor according to the custom of the said Manor All that one close of land called Hunger Hills containing by estimation one acre and a half and four acres of land lying and being in the common field called Widecroft and two acres of land lying and being in the common field called South earsh and one acre of land lying and being in the common field called Bur Croft and also one mead called Newbridge Mead containing by estimation one acre and an acre and a half in Westburn Mead and half an acre of meadow in Churchburn Mead and also all that one meadow called Bisley Mead adjoining to Newbridge containing by estimation one acre more or less To the only proper use and behoof of the said Thomas Litchford Rawlinson his heirs and assigns for ever
First Proclamation on the Surrender of Stephen Eacott
Now at this Court the first proclamation was made for the said Thomas Litchford Rawlinson or any other person or persons who hath or have a right to be admitted to All that one close of land called Hunger Hills containing by estimation one acre and a half and four acres of land lying and being in the common field called Widecroft and two acres of land lying and being in the common field called South earsh and one acre of land lying and being in the common field called Bur Croft and also one mead called Newbridge Mead containing by estimation one acre and an acre and a half in Westburn Mead and half an acre of meadow in Churchburn Mead which came into the hands of the Lord of this Manor on the surrender of the said Stephen Eacott to come into Court and take the same out of the hands of the Lord of this Manor but no one came Whereupon the first Proclamation and default are inrolled.
Also at this Court the first proclamation was made for the said Thomas Litchford Rawlinson or any other person or persons who hath or have a right to be admitted to All that one meadow called Bisley Mead adjoining to Newbridge containing by estimation one acre more or less which came into the hands of the Lord of this Manor on the Surrender of the said Stephen Eacott to come into Court and take the same out of the hands of the Lord of this Manor but no one came Whereupon the first Proclamation and default are inrolled.

 

Absolute Surrender Stephen Eacott to William Williams
The Homage also present a certain other Surrender taken out of Court and since the last General Court to wit on the sixth day of September one thousand eight hundred and sixty nine Whereby Stephen Eacott of Bisley in the County of Surrey Farmer one of the Copyhold or Customary tenants of the said Manor in consideration of the sum of Five hundred and eighty pounds to him paid by William Williams of Number 9 Southampton Street Bloomsbury in the County of Middlesex did surrender into the hands of the Lord of the said Manor by the rod and by the acceptance of the Steward of the said Manor according to the custom of the said Manor All that one Messuage with the appurtenances at Gateshead end with the Barn Garden Orchard and about one acre and a half of land to the same adjoining and belonging lying within the said manor formerly in the occupation of Thomas May And also all that quarter of an acre of land with the appurtenances in Bisley within this manor formerly Richard Freelands whereon a Cottage did lately stand To the only proper and absolute use and behoof of the said William Williams his heirs and assigns for ever

Admittance of William Williams
Now at this Court upon the first proclamation came here into Court in his proper person the said William Williams and humbly prayed to be admitted Tenant to All that one Messuage with the appurtenances at Gateshead end with the Barn Garden Orchard and about one acre and a half of land to the same adjoining and belonging lying within the said manor formerly in the occupation of Thomas May in pursuance of the said Surrender To whom the Lord of the Manor aforesaid by his Steward aforesaid granted the same and delivered seizin thereof by the rod  To hold to the said William Williams his heirs and assigns for ever by Copy of Court Roll at the Will of the Lord according to the custom of the said Manor by the yearly rent of four pence heriot when it shall happen suit of Court and other services and customs therefore formerly due and of right accustomed And so he was admitted Tenant thereof in form aforesaid Gave to the Lord as a fine for such his admittance as appears in the margin [£15] and his fealty was respited.
Admittance of the same
Now at this Court upon the first proclamation came here into Court in his proper person the said William Williams and humbly prayed to be admitted Tenant to All that quarter of an acre of land with the appurtenances in Bisley within this manor formerly Richard Freelands whereon a Cottage did lately stand in pursuance of the said Surrender To whom the Lord of the Manor aforesaid by his Steward aforesaid granted the same and delivered seizin thereof by the rod  To hold to the said William Williams his heirs and assigns for ever by Copy of Court Roll at the Will of the Lord according to the custom of the said Manor by the yearly rent of one penny Heriot when it shall happen suit of Court and other services and customs therefore formerly due and of right accustomed And so he was admitted Tenant thereof in form aforesaid Gave to the Lord as a fine for such his admittance as appears in the margin [£1 10s] and his fealty was respited.

Conditional Surrender John Loveland to William Ross the elder
The Homage also present a certain Surrender taken out of Court and since the last General Court in the words following to wit “Manor of Bisley in the County of Surrey Be it remembered that on the nineteenth day of August one Thousand eight hundred and sixty nine John Loveland of Knaphill in the County of Surrey Bailiff one of the customary tenants of the said Manor personally came before Thomas Russell Gentleman Steward of the Courts of the said Manor out of Court and in consideration of Two hundred pounds of lawful money of the United Kingdom of Great Britain of English value and currency to him the said John Loveland in hand well and truly paid by William Ross the elder of Woking in the County of Surrey Schoolmaster Hath Surrendered and doth Surrender into the hands of the Lord of this Manor by the rod and by the acceptance of the said Steward and according to the custom of the said Manor  All that customary Messuage or Tenement called Belfers with the Barns edifices Gardens Orchards and curtilages to the same belonging with the appurtenances and also all the customary lands to the same belonging formerly in the tenure or occupation of William Cobbett lying in Bisley within the said manor and also five acres and a half of customary land with the appurtenances lying in divers places dispersedly in Bisley to which premises the said John Loveland was admitted Tenant at a Court Baron held for the said Manor on the ninth day of May One thousand eight hundred and forty two (save and except such of the said pieces of land hereinbefore described as were mentioned to be divided allotted and inclosed under the award hereinafter mentioned) And also all that piece or parcel of land or ground containing one acre two roods and thirty four perches situate and being in Southridge Common field and bounded on the North West by an allotment awarded to William Tringham and Numbered 22 on the plan annexed to the said award on the North East by a road leading from Bisley to Horsell on the South East by an allotment awarded to The Reverend Francis Benaventue Gourrier and Numbered 30 on the said Plan and on the South West by an allotment awarded to the said John Loveland and Numbered 24 on the said plan which now being described allotment is numbered 20 on the said plan and was under the award of the Commissioners appointed for dividing allotting and inclosing the open common lands and fields in the Parish of Bisley in the County of Surrey dated the sixth day of August one thousand eight hundred and fifty eight allotted to the said John Loveland in lieu of and for a portion of his lands ground rights of common and all other his rights property and interest Copyhold of the said Manor of Bisley to which he was admitted at the said Court of the ninth day of May One thousand eight hundred and forty two And also all that piece of land or ground containing five acres two roods situate and being in Southridge common field aforesaid and bounded the North West by the allotment awarded to the said William Tringham and Numbered 22 on the said plan on the North East by the allotment last above mentioned to the said John Loveland and Numbered 23 on the said plan on the South East by allotments awarded to The Reverend Francis Benaventue Gourrier and Joseph Hockley Esquire respectively and Numbered respectively 30 and 27 on such plan and on the South West by an allotment awarded to the said John Loveland and Numbered 25 on the same plan which allotment now being described is numbered 24 on the said plan and is exclusive of the public footway directed to pass over the same which said last described piece of land was under the said award of the said Commissioners allotted to the said John Loveland in lieu of and for the remainder of his lands ground rights of common and all other his rights property and interest Copyhold of the said Manor of Bisley to which he was admitted at the said Court and the reversion and reversions remainder and remainders rents issues and profits thereof and all the estate right title interest property possession claim and demand whatsoever of the said John Loveland of into or out of the said premises and every part and parcel thereof To the only proper use and behoof of the said William Ross the elder his heirs and assigns for ever according to the custom of the said Manor Provided always and upon this condition nevertheless that if the said John Loveland his heirs executors administrators or assigns do and shall well and truly pay or cause to be paid unto the said William Ross the elder his executors administrators or assigns the full and just sum of Two hundred pounds together with interest for the same after the rate of Five pounds for one hundred pounds for a year of lawful money of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland of English value and currency upon the nineteenth day of February next ensuing the date hereof without any deduction or abatement to be made or taken out of the same on any account whatsoever and without fraud or further Delay Then this Surrender to be void and of no effect otherwise to be and remain in full force and virtue  John Loveland  This Surrender was taken the day and year first above written by the acceptance of me Thomas Russell Steward In the presence of Samuel Billing Clerk to Mess.rs Hockley & Russell Solicitors Guildford  - Received the day and year first within written of and from the within named William Ross the elder the sum of Two hundred pounds being the consideration money within mentioned to be paid by him to me  [Margin note: Be it remembered that William Ross the Elder in this Surrender named did by writing under his hand bearing date the nineteenth day of August last acknowledge and declare that he had been paid and satisfied  all principal and interest monies and all demands due on this Conditional surrender and did thereby authorize and request the Steward of the said Manor to enter his acknowledgement of having received satisfaction upon the Court Rolls or Books of the said manor accordingly As witness my hand the third day of September one thousand eight hundred and seventy five F Ferdinand Smallpeice Steward]

Deaths of George Balchin and Sarah Lephard
The Homage also present that George Balchin and Sarah Lephard (heretofore described on the Court Rolls of this Manor as Sarah Lepherd) late two of the Copyhold or Customary Tenants of this Manor who held to them and their heirs by Copy of Court Roll at the Will of the Lord according to the custom of the said manor upon the trust of the Will of Edward Lephard deceased (also heretofore described on the Court Rolls of this Manor as Edward Lepherd)  All that piece or parcel of Land formerly inclosed from the waste containing by estimation One acre and twenty two rods lying at Riding hill on the South west side of a Garden late of John Hill by the yearly rent of One penny Heriot when it shall happen suit of Court and other services died respectively on the twenty first day of July One thousand eight hundred and sixty four and the twenty second day of May One thousand eight hundred and sixty seven whereupon a Heriot to wit the best live beast of the said Sarah Lephard (the survivor of the said Trustees) became due to the Lord of this manor and that none was seized she having no live animal at the time of her decease.

Will of Sarah Lephard
The Homage also present that the said Sarah Lephard duly made and published her last Will and Testament in writing bearing date the eleventh day of August One thousand eight hundred and sixty four (the probate whereof was produced and read in open Court) Whereby she appointed her Son Edmund Lephard and her Son in Law James Luff executors and gave devised and bequeathed unto the said Edmund Lephard and James Luff their heirs and assigns according to their respective natures and qualities thereof All and every her real and personal Estate of what nature or kind soever and wheresoever situate upon the trusts in the said Will mentioned.

Now at this Court upon the first proclamation came here into Court the said Edmund Lephard and James Luff (by John Debenham their attorney) and humbly prayed to be admitted Tenant to All that piece or parcel of Land formerly inclosed from the waste containing by estimation One acre and twenty two rods lying at Riding hill on the South west side of a Garden late of John Hill which came into the hands of the Lord of this Manor on the death of the survivor of the said George Balchin and Sarah Lephard  To whom the Lord of the Manor aforesaid by his Steward aforesaid granted the same and delivered seizin thereof by the rod  To hold to the said Edmund Lephard and James Luff their heirs and assigns for ever upon the trusts nevertheless and to and for the intents and purposes mentioned and declared in and by the last Will of the said Edward Lephard deceased (and saving the equity of redemption if any of James Hill therein) by Copy of Court Roll at the Will of the Lord according to the custom of the said Manor by the yearly rent of One penny Heriot when it shall happen suit of Court and other services and customs therefore formerly due and of right accustomed And so they were admitted tenants thereof (by their said attorney) in form aforesaid Gave to the Lord as a fine for such their admittance as appears in the margin [£2 10s and £1 5s] and their fealties were respited.

Enfranchisement Eliza Street
The Homage also present that the Copyhold or customary hereditaments to which Eliza Street of Bisley Green in the County of Surrey Widow was admitted Tenant at a General Court Baron held for the said manor on the sixteenth day of May one thousand eight hundred and sixty five have been lately enfranchised and are now held freely of this manor.

Enfranchisement Ann Slyfield
The Homage also present that the Copyhold or customary hereditaments to which Ann Slyfield of Woking in the County of Surrey Spinster was admitted Tenant at a General Court Baron held for the said manor on the eleventh day of May one thousand eight hundred and sixty eight have been lately enfranchised and are now held freely of this manor.

Enfranchisement William Williams
The Homage also present that the Copyhold or customary hereditaments to which William Williams was admitted Tenant on the eleventh day of May one thousand eight hundred and sixty eight have been lately enfranchised and are now held freely of this manor.

Enfranchisement Charles Robinson
The Homage also present that the Copyhold or customary hereditaments to which Charles Robinson was admitted Tenant on the third day of August one thousand eight hundred and sixty one have been lately enfranchised and are now held freely of this manor.

Encroachment ______ Wood
The Homage present that _____ Wood of Banstead in the County of Surrey Timber Merchant has encroached on the waste of this manor by placing Timber on Riding Hill Bisley Green and hales Green and the Homage amerce him in the sum of Seven shillings and six pence for the trespass.

Encroachment Charles Pullen
The Homage also present that Charles Pullen of Bisley in the County of Surrey Farmer has encroached on the waste of this manor by placing a stack of faggots thereon at Bisley and the Homage amerce him in the sum of Ten shillings for the trespass.

The Homage also present that the managers of the Refuge for Homeless and Destitute Children situate at Bisley Green have taken away large quantities of earth and sods from off the waste of this manor at Bisley Green aforesaid and the Homage amerce the said managers in the sum of forty shillings for so removing the earth and sods.

The Homage also present that William Steptoe has trimmed up a Pollard standing on the waste of this manor in front of his house and they do amerce him in the sum of two pence.

Death of the Reverend Thomas Hockley
The Homage also present that The Reverend Thomas Hockley late one of the Copyhold or Customary Tenants of this Manor who held to him and his heirs by Copy of Court Roll at the Will of the Lord according to the custom of the said manor  All that Copyhold Cottage or Tenement with all the copyhold lands by estimation half an acre of land more or less situate lying and being near Bisley Green with all the appurtenances thereunto belonging late the estate of Elizabeth Dudman formerly Elizabeth Collyer and late in the occupation of Henry Knight by the yearly rent of four pence Heriot when it shall happen suit of Court and other services and customs therefore formerly due and of right accustomed Died since the last Court so thereof seized whereupon a Heriot to wit the best live beast of the said Thomas Hockley became due to the Lord of this manor and that none was seized he having no live animal at the time of his decease.

Now at this Court the first proclamation was made for the heir at Law of the said Thomas Hockley or any other person or persons who hath or have a right to be admitted to All that the said Copyhold Cottage or Tenement with all the copyhold lands by estimation half an acre of land more or less situate lying and being near Bisley Green with all the appurtenances thereunto belonging late the estate of Elizabeth Dudman formerly Elizabeth Collyer and late in the occupation of Henry Knight which came into the hands of the Lord of this Manor on the surrender of the said Thomas Hockley to come into Court and take the same out of the hands of the Lord of this Manor but no one came Whereupon the first Proclamation and default are here inrolled.
