The General Court Baron of The Right Honorable Arthur George Earl of Onslow Lord of the said Manor there held for the said Manor on Monday the eleventh day of May in the thirty first year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lady Victoria by the Grace of God of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland Queen Defender of the Faith and in the year of our Lord One Thousand eight hundred and sixty eight Before Joseph Hockley Gentleman Steward there.

Conditional Surrender Francis Baxter to Edward Preston
The Homage aforesaid being sworn and charged on their Oath do present a certain Surrender taken out of Court and since the last General Court in the words following to wit
“The Manor of Bisley in the County of Surrey Be it remembered that on the nineteenth day of June one Thousand eight hundred and sixty six Francis Baxter of Saint Martins Stamford Baron in the County of Northampton Farmer a Customary tenant of this Manor in consideration of the Sum of Two hundred pounds sterling to him in hand paid by Edward Preston of Stamford in the County of Lincoln Licensed Victualler at or before the passing of this Surrender the receipt of which said sum of Two hundred pounds the said Francis Baxter doth hereby acknowledge doth out of Court surrender by the rod out of his hands into the hands of the Lord of this Manor by the hands and acceptance of William Farmery Law Deputy for this turn and purpose only of Joseph Hockley Gentleman Steward of the Courts of this Manor and according to the Custom thereof  All that Copyhold close or parcel of Arable land situate at Bisley aforesaid containing by estimation five acres and seven perches more or less formerly in the occupation of Joseph Bedford afterwards of Stephen Steptoe and then of James Hill Stephen Steptoe and James Bedford Together with the Messuage or Tenement thereon erected and built since then in the occupation of Thomas Baxter now deceased and now of James Chitty and to which said premises the said Francis Baxter was admitted tenant at a Court holden in and for this manor on the twenty third day of May One thousand eight hundred and sixty six together with all outhouses buildings barns stables yards ways waters watercourses easements rights members privileges and appurtenances thereto belonging and the reversion and reversions remainder and remainders rents issues and profits thereof and all the estate right title interest use trust property benefit claim and demand whatsoever of him the said Francis Baxter both at law and in equity therein and thereto To the use and behoof of the said Edward Preston his heirs and assigns for ever according to the custom of this Manor Provided always and these presents are upon condition that if the said Francis Baxter his heirs executors administrators or assigns do and shall well and truly pay to the said Edward Preston his executors administrators or assigns the said sum of Two hundred pounds with interest for the same after the rate of five pounds per centum per annum on the sixth day of December now next ensuing without any deduction or abatement whatsoever then this Surrender shall be void but in case the said Francis Baxter his heirs executors or administrators shall not pay unto the said Edward Preston his executors administrators or assigns the said principal sum of Two hundred pounds and interest on the said sixth day of December next then it shall be lawful for the said Edward Preston his heirs and assigns absolutely to sell and dispose of the said hereditaments and premises by auction or private contract at one or more time or times as he or they shall deem fit and expedient for so much as can be reasonably obtained for the same and with power at any such auction to buy in the same or any part thereof and also take admission to surrender and assure the same when so sold unto the purchaser or purchasers thereof his her or their heirs or assigns And it is hereby declared that the said Edward Preston his heirs executors administrators or assigns shall stand possessed of the proceeds of any sale or sales thereof In trust after deducting thereout the fines and fees payable or his or their admission to the said premises and retaining and reimbursing himself and themselves respectively all such costs and expenses as he or they shall or may expend or be put unto by causing the said premises to be sold and in making out proper abstracts of Title thereto to be delivered to the purchaser or otherwise in completing the same respectively or in anywise incident to such sale as aforesaid to retain to and reimburse himself and themselves respectively the said principal sum of Two hundred pounds or so much thereof as shall then remain unpaid and all interest then owing for the same and after payment thereof intrust to pay the surplus of the said sale moneys (if any) unto the said Francis Baxter his heirs executors administrators or assigns And it is hereby further agreed that the receipt or receipts in writing of the said Edward Preston his heirs executors administrators or assigns shall be good and sufficient discharges for all moneys therein expressed to be received and that the person or persons paying him or them any moneys and taking such receipts shall not afterwards be required to see to the application thereof or be answerable for the misapplication or non application thereof ~  Francis Baxter Taken the day and year first above written by me Wm F Law Deputy Steward for this turn and purpose only - Received the day and year first above written of and from the above named Edward Preston the sum of Two hundred pounds being the consideration money above expressed to be paid by him to me  £200  Francis Baxter  Witness W.m F.  [Margin note: Be it remembered that Edward Preston in this Surrender named did by writing under his hand bearing date the 23rd day of September 1868 acknowledge to have received from Thomas Litchford Rawlinson of Bisley aforesaid Farmer all principal money and interest due and owing to him the said Edward Preston under or by virtue of this Conditional surrender And he did thereby authorize and require me to enter his acknowledgement of satisfaction of and for the said conditional Surrender upon the Court Rolls of the said manor and which I have now done as witness my hand F Ferdinand Smallpeice Steward]

Conditional Surrender James Hill to Letitia Roake
The Homage also present a certain Surrender taken out of Court and since the last General Court in the words following to wit
“The Manor of Bisley in the County of Surrey Be it remembered that on the twenty third day of June in the year of our Lord one Thousand eight hundred and sixty six James Hill of Bisley in the County of Surrey Farmer one of the Copyhold or Customary tenants of the said Manor personally came before me Joseph Hockley Gentleman Steward of the Manor of Bisley aforesaid and in consideration of the sum of one hundred pounds of lawful money of Great Britain to him paid by Letitia Roake of Dunford Farm near Chertsey in the County of Surrey Widow at or before the making of this Surrender Hath Surrendered and by these presents  Doth Surrender into the hands of the Lord of the said Manor by the rod and by the acceptance of the said Steward according to the custom of the said Manor  All that Messuage or Tenement called Radsells Grove with the Barn buildings orchards Gardens and all the Lands thereto belonging with the appurtenances containing by estimation five acres more or less in the parish of Bisley then late in the occupation of William Slaughter and since of John Hill (that was to say) the South end of the said Messuage the Garden before it the Orchard behind it half the Barn the West end half the yard and four plots of ground one against the House two below that and one against the Common Southward containing about two acres and an half more or less (to which said premises the said James Hill was admitted tenant out of Court on the twenty third day of June One thousand eight hundred and sixty six) Together with all and every the rights members and appurtenances whatsoever thereto belonging And the reversion and reversions remainder and remainders rents issues and profits thereof and all the estate right title interest claim and demand whatsoever of him the said James Hill of in to or out of the said premises To the only proper use and behoof of the said Letitia Roake her heirs and assigns for ever according to the custom of the said Manor Provided always and upon this condition nevertheless that if the said James Hill his executors administrators or assigns do and shall well and truly pay or cause to be paid unto the said Letitia Roake her executors administrators or assigns on the twenty third day of December next ensuing the sum of one hundred pounds together with interest for the same after the rate of five pounds per centum per annum clear of all taxes and deductions whatsoever Then this Surrender shall be void and of no effect otherwise it shall remain in full force and virtue.  James Hill Taken and accepted the day and year first above written By me Joseph Hockley Steward in the presence of H W Tunmer Clerk to Mr J.R. Capron Sol.r Guildford - Received the day and year first above written of and from the above named Letitia Roake the sum of one hundred pounds being the consideration money above expressed to be paid by her to me  £100  James Hill  Witness H W Tunmer.”
 [Margin note: Be it remembered that by writing bearing date the thirteenth day of October instant under the hand of Lydia Keene of Richmond in the County of Surrey Spinster after reciting this Surrender and reciting that the principal and interest monies secured by or then due under the same Surrender and the full benefit of the said Surrender were then vested in the said Lydia Keene and that all principal money and interest so due as aforesaid on the same Surrender had been fully paid off and discharged (as she the said Lydia Keene did thereby admit and acknowledge) She the said Lydia Keene did thereby authorize and empower the Steward of this Manor to enter that her acknowledgement of satisfaction on the Court Rolls of the said manor and to vacate and make void this Surrender As witness my hand this twenty second day of October one thousand eight hundred and eighty four.  F Ferdinand Smallpeice Steward]

Conditional Surrender John Loveland to Jacob Upfold
The Homage also present a certain Surrender taken out of Court and since the last General Court in the words following to wit
“Manor of Bisley in the County of Surrey The Twenty ninth day of October in the year of our Lord one Thousand eight hundred and sixty seven Be it remembered that on the day and year above written John Loveland of Home Bush farm in the parish of Horsell in the County of Surrey Bailiff a Copyhold Tenant of the said Manor came before me Joseph Hockley Gentleman Steward of the said Manor did out of Court in consideration of the sum of one hundred and fifty pounds of lawful money of Great Britain to him the said John Loveland paid lent and advanced by Jacob Upfold of Shalford in the County of Surrey Brewers Foreman at or immediately before passing the Surrender hereinafter expressed the receipt whereof the said John Loveland doth hereby and by the receipt hereunder written acknowledge Surrender out of his hands into the hands of the Lord of the said Manor by the hands and acceptance of me the said Steward by the rod according to the custom of the said manor All that Little Meadow Platt called Turks Platt containing an acre of land more or less and also one acre of land in Neltro in two parcels one acre of land in Widecroft one acre of land in South earsh and one acre of Wood with the appurtenances held by the yearly rent of two pence heriot suit of Court and other services And also all that meadow containing by estimation four acres adjoining the Lane leading to Church Mead on the East part and lands now or late of John Phillips on the West part held by the yearly rent of sixpence heriot suit of Court and other services To which premises the said John Loveland was admitted Tenant at a Court Baron held for the said manor on the twenty seventh day of October one thousand eight hundred and twenty five save and except such of the said pieces of land as were mentioned to be divided allotted and inclosed under the Award hereinafter mentioned And also all that piece or parcel of land or ground containing three acres situate and being partly in Wilcot Common field and partly in Southridge Common field and bounded on the North West by an allotment awarded to William Tringham and numbered 22 on the Inclosure plan of the said award on the North East by an Allotment awarded to the said John Loveland and numbered 24 on such Plan on the South East by an Allotment awarded to Joseph Hockley and numbered 26 on the same plan and on the South West by Allotments awarded to Henry Downes and Stephen Eacott respectively numbered 20 and 21 on the same plan and which allotment above described is numbered 25 on the said Inclosure plan and is exclusive of the public footway directed to pass over the same all which piece or parcel of land containing three acres was under the award of the Commissioner appointed for dividing allotting and inclosing the open Common lands and fields in the parish of Bisley dated the sixth day of August One thousand eight hundred and fifty eight allotted to the said John Loveland in lieu of and for all the lands grounds rights of common and all other his rights profits interest Copyhold of the said Manor of Bisley to which he was admitted as aforesaid in over and upon the lands and grounds so agreed to be divided and enclosed as aforesaid And the reversion and reversions remainder and remainders yearly and other rents issues and profits thereof and of every part thereof and all the estate right title interest inheritance use trust property possession power claim and demand whatsoever both at law and in equity of him the said John Loveland of in to from or out of the same hereditaments and premises and every part and parcel thereof with the appurtenances to the use and behoof of the said Jacob Upfold his heirs and assigns for ever at the will of the Lord and according to the custom of the said Manor but subject nevertheless to and upon this express condition that if the said John Loveland his heirs executors administrators or assigns do and shall on the twenty ninth day of April now next ensuing well and truly pay or cause to be paid unto the said Jacob Upfold his executors administrators or assigns the full sum of One hundred and fifty pounds of lawful money of Great Britain with interest for the same at the rate of five pounds per cent per annum to be computed from the date of this Surrender without any reduction or abatement whatsoever Then this Surrender to be void and of no effect otherwise to be and remain in full force and virtue And in case default shall be made in payment of the principal and Interest money hereby secured agreeably with the proviso for redemption hereinbefore contained it shall be lawful for the said Jacob Upfold or his heirs executors administrators or assigns at any time thereafter without the consent of the said John Loveland his heirs or assigns to sell and dispose of the said hereditaments and premises hereinbefore mentioned by public auction or private contract and subject or not subject to any special or other conditions or stipulations relative to the Title or evidence of Title or otherwise as appear expedient and with full power to buy in the said hereditaments and premises or any part thereof at any Auction and to rescind or vary the terms of any Contract for Sale or proceed to enforce the same or otherwise act in relation to such Sale or Sales as may be reasonably deemed expedient and to take admittance when requisite and surrender and convey and assure the same hereditaments and premises or any part thereof to the use of the purchaser or purchasers and his her and their heirs and assigns or as he she or they may direct and also to give receipts for all purchase and all other monies thence arising and which receipts shall effectively discharge all purchasers and other persons paying money thereupon from all liability as to the application misapplication or nonapplication of the monies therein expressed to be received and out of the monies to arise by such sale or sales and the rents and profits which she he or they shall receive shall and may pay and discharge all costs charges and expenses occasioned by nonpayment of the said principal and interest monies respectively or by or incidental to such Sale or Sales and completing or enforcing any Contract in relation thereto or in obtaining possession of the said hereditaments and premises and in the next place pay and discharge so far as the same will extend all principal money and interest for the time being due under this Security and the surplus (if any) of such monies after such payments shall pay to the said John Loveland his heirs or assigns  John Loveland This Surrender was taken the day and year above written by me Joseph Hockley Steward In the presence of Edw.d Cha.s Quilley  Received the day and year first above written of and from the above named Jacob Upfold the sum of one hundred and fifty pounds being the consideration money above mentioned to be paid by her to me  £150 John Loveland  Witness E.C.  [Margin note: Be it remembered that Jacob Upfold in this Surrender named did by writing under his hand bearing date the first day of September instant acknowledge and declare that he had been paid and satisfied all principal and interest monies and all demands due on this conditional surrender and did thereby authorize and request the Steward of this Manor to enter his acknowledgement of having received such satisfaction upon the Court Rolls or Books of the said manor accordingly As witness my hand the third day of September one thousand eight hundred and seventy five F Ferdinand Smallpeice Steward]

Absolute Surrender Thomas Hockley to Ann Slyfield
The Homage also present a certain Surrender taken out of Court and since the last General Court to wit on the twenty sixth day of September one thousand eight hundred and sixty seven Whereby Thomas Hockley of Arundel in the County of Sussex Clerk in Holy Orders one of the Copyhold or Customary Tenants of this Manor in consideration of the Sum of one Hundred and fifteen pounds to him paid by Ann Slyfield of Woking in the County of Surrey Spinster Surrendered into the hands of the Lord of the said Manor by the rod and by the acceptance of the said Steward of the said Manor  All that Messuage called Cumbers with the Buildings Garden and Orchard and Land to the same adjoining and containing one acre more or less with the appurtenances situate lying and being in the parish of Bisley within this Manor formerly the Estate of James Mills To which the said Thomas Hockley was admitted Tenant at a General Court Baron held for the said Manor on the twenty ninth day of May one thousand eight hundred and fifty seven To the only proper and absolute use and behoof of the said Ann Slyfield her heirs and assigns for ever
Admittance of Ann Slyfield
Now at this Court upon the first proclamation came here into Court the said Ann Slyfield by Richard Drewitt her attorney) and humbly prayed to be admitted Tenant to All that Messuage called Cumbers with the Buildings Garden and Orchard and Land to the same adjoining and containing one acre more or less with the appurtenances situate lying and being in the parish of Bisley within this Manor formerly the Estate of James Mills in pursuance of the said Surrender To whom the Lord of the Manor aforesaid by his Steward aforesaid granted the same and delivered seizin thereof by the rod  To hold to the said Ann Slyfield her heirs and assigns for ever by Copy of Court Roll at the Will of the Lord according to the custom of the said Manor by the yearly rent of one penny halfpenny Heriot when it shall happen suit of Court and other services and customs therefore formerly due and of right accustomed And so she was admitted tenant thereof (by her said attorney) in form aforesaid Gave to the Lord as a fine for such her admittance as appears in the margin [£6 15s] and her fealty was pardoned.

Absolute Surrender Francis Baxter to Thomas Litchford Rawlinson
The Homage also present a certain Surrender taken out of Court and since the last General Court to wit on the twenty third day of January one thousand eight hundred and sixty eight Whereby Francis Baxter late of Stamford in the County of Lincoln but now of Oakham in the County of Rutland Farmer one of the Copyhold or Customary Tenants of this Manor in consideration of the Sum of one hundred pounds to him paid by Thomas Litchford Rawlinson of Stamford aforesaid Glazier surrendered into the hands of the Lord of the said Manor by the Rod and by the acceptance of Thomas Russell Deputy of Joseph Hockley Chief Steward of the Courts of the said Manor according to the custom thereof All that close or parcel of Arable Land situate at Bisley aforesaid containing by estimation five acres and seven perches more or less formerly in the occupation of Joseph Bedford afterwards of Stephen Steptoe and late of  __________ Together with the Messuage or Tenement and other buildings lately erected and built thereon to which the said Francis Baxter was admitted at a Special Court held for the said Manor on the twenty third day of May one thousand eight hundred and sixty six To the only absolute use and behoof of the said Thomas Litchford Rawlinson his heirs and assigns for ever subject nevertheless to the payment of the principal sum of Two hundred pounds and interest from the date of the said Surrender and secured by a certain Conditional Surrender bearing date the nineteenth day of June one thousand eight hundred and sixty six and made between the said Francis Baxter of the one part and Edward Preston of Stamford aforesaid Licensed Victualler of the other part
Admittance of Thomas Litchford Rawlinson
Now at this Court upon the first proclamation came here into Court the said Thomas Litchford Rawlinson (by Edward Charles Quilley his attorney) and humbly prayed to be admitted Tenant to All that close or parcel of Arable Land situate at Bisley aforesaid containing by estimation five acres and seven perches more or less formerly in the occupation of Joseph Bedford afterwards of Stephen Steptoe and late of __________ Together with the Messuage or Tenement and other Buildings lately erected and built thereon in pursuance of the said Surrender To whom the Lord of the Manor aforesaid by his Steward aforesaid granted the same and delivered seizin thereof by the rod  To hold to the said Thomas Litchford Rawlinson his heirs and assigns for ever (subject nevertheless to the payment of the said sum of Two hundred pounds and interest as before mentioned) by Copy of Court Roll at the Will of the Lord according to the custom of the said Manor by the yearly rent of four pence heriot when it shall happen suit of Court and other services and customs therefore formerly due and of right accustomed And so he was admitted Tenant thereof (by his said attorney) in form aforesaid Gave to the Lord as a fine for such his admittance as appears in the margin [£18] and his fealty was respited.

Absolute Surrender George Sawkins to William Williams
The Homage also present a certain Surrender taken out of Court and since the last General Court to wit on the fourth day of April one thousand eight hundred and sixty eight Whereby George Sawkins of Bisley in the County of Surrey Husbandman one of the Copyhold or Customary Tenants of this Manor in consideration of the Sum of Two hundred and twenty pounds to him paid by William Williams of Number 9 Southampton Street Bloomsbury in the County of Middlesex Gentleman Surrendered into the hands of the Lord of the said Manor by the Rod and by the acceptance of the said Steward of the said Manor according to the custom thereof All that customary Messuage or Tenement one Garden one Barn and one Stable with the appurtenances in Bisley Green within this Manor and three quarters of an acre of land there to which he was admitted at a General Court Baron held for the said Manor on the sixteenth day of May one thousand eight hundred and fifty To the only proper use and behoof of the said William Williams his heirs and assigns for ever
Admittance of William Williams
Now at this Court upon the first proclamation came here into Court in his proper person the said William Williams and humbly prayed to be admitted Tenant to All that customary Messuage or Tenement one Garden one Barn and one Stable with the appurtenances in Bisley Green within this Manor and three quarters of an acre of land there in pursuance of the said Surrender To whom the Lord of the Manor aforesaid by his Steward aforesaid granted the same and delivered seizin thereof by the rod  To hold to the said William Williams his heirs and assigns for ever by Copy of Court Roll at the Will of the Lord according to the custom of the said Manor by the yearly apportioned rent of three pence Heriot when it shall happen suit of Court and other services and customs therefore formerly due and of right accustomed And so he was admitted Tenant thereof in form aforesaid Gave to the Lord as a fine for such his his admittance as appears in the margin [£9 15s] and his fealty was respited.

 

Rev.d Charles Shrubb Enfranchises
The Homage also present that the Copyhold hereditaments to which the Reverend Charles Shrubb was admitted Tenant on the nineteenth day of July one thousand eight hundred and forty seven have been enfranchised since the last Court.

Consent of the Homage to grant to John Slann
At this Court the Homage do consent and agree that the Lord of this Manor may grant by Copy of Court Roll for such estate as he may think proper unto John Slann of Bisley in the County of Surrey Plumber and his heirs All that piece or parcel of the waste of this Manor containing about half a rod in width and ten rods in length more or less being contiguous to and in front of his property at Bisley aforesaid bounded on the North by the premises of the said John Slann on the South East and West by the Green at Bisley And that the said John Slann may enclose the said piece or parcel of land and hold the same enclosed for ever hereafter
Grant to John Slann
Now at this Court the Lord of this Manor by his Steward aforesaid Doth as far as in him lieth and he lawfully can or may with the Consent of the Homage grant to the said John Slann All that piece or parcel of the waste of this Manor containing about half a rod in width and ten rods in length more or less being contiguous to and in front of his property at Bisley aforesaid bounded on the North by the premises of the said John Slann on the South East and West by the Green at Bisley  To have and to hold the same unto the said John Slann his heirs and assigns for ever by Copy of Court Roll at the Will of the Lord according to the custom of the said Manor by the yearly rent of one shilling Heriot certain two shillings and sixpence on the death of every person dying seized thereof or of any part thereof suit of Court at the Courts Baron to be held for the said Manor Fine at the will of the Lord and such other services as are customarily rendered by the copyhold tenants of the said Manor And so the said John Slann was admitted Tenant thereof accordingly hath seizin by the rod and giveth to the Lord as a fine for such his admittance as appears in the margin [2s 6d] and his fealty is respited.

Consent of the Homage to Grant to William Steptoe
At this Court the Homage do consent and agree that the Lord of this Manor may grant by Copy of Court Roll for such estate as he may think proper unto William Steptoe of Bisley in the County of Surrey Husbandman and his heirs All that piece or parcel of the Waste of this Manor containing about ten rods more or less contiguous to and in front of the premises belonging to the said William Steptoe at Bisley aforesaid and bounded on the South and East by property of the said William Steptoe and on the West by the road leading from Guildford to Bagshot on the North by the road leading from the Guildford and Bagshot road to Bisley Church and that the said William Steptoe may enclose the said piece or parcel of land and hold the same enclosed for ever hereafter
Grant to William Steptoe
Now at this Court the Lord of this Manor by his Steward aforesaid Doth as far as in him lieth and he lawfully can or may with the Consent of the Homage grant to the said William Steptoe All that the said piece or parcel of the Waste of this Manor containing about ten rods more or less contiguous to and in front of the premises belonging to the said William Steptoe at Bisley aforesaid and bounded on the South and East by property of the said William Steptoe and on the West by the road leading from Guildford to Bagshot on the North by the road leading from the Guildford and Bagshot road to Bisley Church  To have and to hold the same unto the said William Steptoe his heirs and assigns for ever by Copy of Court Roll at the Will of the Lord according to the custom of the said Manor by the yearly rent of one shilling Heriot certain two shillings and sixpence on the death of every person dying seized thereof or of any part thereof suit of Court at the Courts Baron to be held for the said Manor Fine at the will of the Lord and such other services as are customarily rendered by the copyhold tenants of the said Manor And so the said William Steptoe was admitted Tenant thereof accordingly hath seizin by the rod and giveth to the Lord as a fine for such his admittance as appears in the margin [2s 6d] and his fealty was respited.
