The Homage Present a certain Letter of Attorney bearing date the Twenty second day of November One thousand Seven hundred and Eighty three Whereby Mary Higgs of Reading in the County of Berks Widow One of the Customary Tenants of the said Manor Did make ordain Constitute and Appoint John Sammmon [sic] of Reading aforesaid Gentleman her true and lawful Attorney for her the said Mary Higgs and in her name and Stead to Surrender into the into the hands of the Lord of the said Manor of Bisley aforesaid by the acceptance of the said Steward or Deputy lawfully authorized according to the Custom of the said Manor All those three Closes of Land formerly four Closes called Brizes containing by Estimation four Acres more or less with the Appurts lying and being in the Parish and Manor of Bisley aforesaid And also all and singular other her Copyhold Lands whatsoever lying or being within or belonging to or held of the Same Manor with their and every of their Appurtenances And all her Estate and Interest therein unto and to the use of John Dudman of Bisley aforesaid his Heirs and Assigns forever according to the Custom of the said Manor And for her the said Mary Higgs and in her name to do and Execute all and every Act and thing Acts and things needful and requisite for the making such Surrender &c.
The Homage also Present a Surrender taken out of Court and since the last Court to wit on the Twenty fourth day of November One thousand Seven hundred and Eighty three Whereby the said Mary Higgs by John Sammon of Reading in the County of Berks Gentleman her Attorney for that Purpose legally Authorized by Letter of Attorney under her hand and Seal Did Surrender by the Rod into the hands of the Lord of the said Manor by the acceptance of the said Deputy Steward according to the Custom of the said Manor All that her undivided Moiety or half part of and in All those three Closes of Land formerly four Closes called Brizes containing by Estimation four Acres more or less with the Appurtenances lying and being in the Parish and Manor of Bisley theretofore in the Tenure of George Rempnant Junior and Since of Moses Evered held by the Yearly Rent of four Pence Heriot when it shall happen Suit of Court and other Customs and Services therefore formerly due and of right accustomed To which the said Mary Higgs was admitted at a View of Frankpledge with a Court Baron held for the said Manor on the fourth day of October One thousand Seven hundred and Fifty four on the Death of Mary Try Widow And also all that her other undivided Moiety or half part of and in All those the said three Closes of Land formerly four Closes called Brizes containing by Estimation four Acres more or less with the Appurtenances lying and being in the Parish and Manor of Bisley theretofore in the Tenure of George Rempnant Junior and Since of Moses Evered held by the Yearly Rent of four Pence Heriot when it shall happen Suit of Court and other Customs and Services therefore formerly due and of right accustomed To which the said Mary Higgs was admitted at a View of Frankpledge with a Court Baron held for the said Manor on the Twenty fifth day of October One thousand Seven hundred and Seventy one on the Surrender of Thomas Dunkley and Ann his Wife theretofore Ann Washborne And all her Estate and Interest therein and thereto To the use of John Dudman of Bisley aforesaid Farmer his Heirs and Assigns forever according to the Custom of the said Manor And to or for no other Use Intent or Purpose whatsoever Whereupon at this Court upon the first Proclamation came into Court the said John Dudman and humbly Prayed to be admitted to All that One undivided Moiety or half part formerly Mary Try’s of and in All those three Closes of Land formerly four Closes called Brizes containing by Estimation four Acres more or less with the Appurtenances lying and being in the Parish and Manor of Bisley heretofore in the Tenure of George Rempnant Jun.r and Since of Moses Evered in Pursuance of the said Surrender To whom the Lord of this Manor by the said Deputy Steward granted the same To hold to him the said John Dudman his heirs and Assigns forever by Copy of Court Roll at the will of the Lord according to the custom of the said Manor by the Yearly Rents of four pence Heriot when it shall happen Suit of Court and other Customs and Services therefore formerly due and of right accustomed And he gave to the Lord as a Fine for such his admittance as appears afterwards he is admitted Tenant thereof hath Seizin by the Rod and his Fealty is respited.
Also at this Court upon the first Proclamation came again into Court the said John Dudman and humbly Prayed to be admitted to All that One undivided Moiety or half part formerly Washbornes and since Dunkleys Of and in All those the said three Closes of Land formerly four Closes called Brizes containing by Estimation four Acres more or less with the Appurtenances lying and being in the Parish and Manor of Bisley in Pursuance of the said Surrender To whom the Lord of this Manor by the said Deputy Steward granted the same To hold to him the said John Dudman his heirs and Assigns forever by Copy of Court Roll at the will of the Lord according to the custom of the said Manor by the Yearly Rents of four pence Heriot when it shall happen Suit of Court and other Customs and Services therefore formerly due and of right accustomed And he gave to the Lord as a Fine for this and his former Admittance as Appears in the Margin [Fine for both £5.12.6] He is admitted Tenant thereof hath Seizin by the Rod and his Fealty is respited.
The Homage also Present a Certain Surrender taken out of Court and since the last Court to wit on the ninth day of March One thousand Seven hundred and Eighty four Whereby John Field of Worplesdon in the County of Surrey Cordwainer One of the Copyhold or Customary Tenants of the said Manor Did Surrender into the Hands of the Lord of the said Manor by the acceptance of the said Deputy Steward by the Rod according to the Custom of the said Manor All that Customary Messuage or Tenement with the Orchard formerly in the Tenure of Philip Roberts and one Close of Land to the same belonging containing by Estimation One Acre more or less One Acre of Land more or less in Nelthro with the Appurtenances The Messuage now untenanted and the Lands late in the Occupation of William Cobbett And also all that Parcel of Arable Land in the Common Field called Neltro in Bisley by Estimation One Acre more or less One And half an acre of Meadow in Church Burne Mead with the Appurtenances All lying and being in the Manor of Bisley aforesaid And also all that Parcel of Land with the Appurtenance called Wichoode and One Close of Land adjoining by Estimation one Acre lying in Bisley aforesaid And also all that Parcel of Land with the Appurtenances lying in four Severals containing by Estimation Seven Acres more or less And Two Acres of Land and half an Acre of Land more or less lying in the Common Field called Neltro and Two Acres of Land and half an Acre of Land lying in the Common Field called Widecroft in the said Manor of Bisley And also One Close of Customary Arable Land late Wood Land containing by Estimation two Acres more or less And Two Acres of Land more or less lying in the Common Field called North Hill To the only use and behoof of William Edmead of Chertsey in the said County Cordwainer his heirs and Assigns forever Provided always and upon this Condition nevertheless That if the said John Field his Heirs Executors Administrators or Assigns should and did well and truly Pay or Cause to be paid unto the said William Edmead his Executors or Administrators the full Sum of Two hundred pounds together with Interest for the same at the rate of five Pounds for One hundred pounds for a Year of good and lawful money of Great Britain upon the ninth day of September next Ensuing the date thereof without any Deduction to be made or taken out of the Same on any account whatsoever Then the said Surrender should be Void or else remain in full force.
[Margin Note: Be it Remembered That William Edmead in this Surrender named did on the 29th day of September 1791 acknowledge that he had received the Sum of Two Hundred Pounds secured to him by this Surrender and all Interest for the same And by a Warrant under his hand of that date did authorize the Steward of the Manor of Bisley to Enter his acknowledgement of having received such Satisfaction in the Court Rolls or Books of the said Manor Witness my hand Tho.s Sibthorpe]
The Homage also Present that William Cobbett One of the Copyhold or Customary Tenants of this Manor who held to him and his Heirs by Copy of Court Roll at the will of the Lord according to the custom of this Manor All that Tenement with the Appurtenances called Hallers One Wood called Newcroft One Acre of Land called Widecroft Two Acres and an half more or less lying in Great Westwoods Two Acres of Land lying near Palmers Land in South Earsh and One Barn and one Close thereto adjoining between Hallers House and Hallers Grove with the Appurtenances in Bisley aforesaid And also all that One Parcel of Land called Longlands containing by Estimation Three Acres more or less in Bisley aforesaid
And also all that one Parcel of Land called Hallers Grove containing by Estimation three Acres more or less in Bisley aforesaid And also all that Parcel of Pasture containing by Estimation Two Acres in Bisley aforesaid abutting upon the Common Mead called Westburn Mead with the Appurtenances in Bisley aforesaid Died since the last Court Seized of the said four Several Estates Whereupon there became due to the Lord four Heriots Viz.t the four best living animals of the said William Cobbett And that William Cobbett is his Eldest Son and Heir at Law and of full Age Whereupon at this Court the first Proclamation is made If the said William Cobbett the Son or any other Person or Persons who hath or have a right to be Admitted to the said four Several Estates with their Appurtenances Would come into Court and take the Same out of the Lords hands he she or they should be heard but Nobody came Whereupon the first Proclamation and default as to Each Estate are here Inrolled.
At this Court the Second Proclamation is made If the Heir at Law of William Thick late one of the Copyhold or Customary Tenants of the said Manor or any other Person or Persons who hath or have a right to be Admitted to Four Several Copyhold Estates which came into the Hands of the Lord of this Manor on the Death of the said William Thick or either of them Would come into Court and take the Same out of the Lords Hands he she or they should be heard but Nobody came Whereupon the Second Proclamation and Default as to Each Estate are here Inrolled.
