At this Court came here into Court in his proper person Joshua Longley one of the Copyhold or Customary Tenants of this Manor And in consideration of the Sum of One hundred and fifty pounds to him paid by Hannah the Wife of John Collyer of Horsell in the County of Surrey Laborer Surrendered into the hands of the Lord of the said Manor by the Rod and by the Acceptance of the Steward aforesaid according to the Custom of the said Manor All that Messuage called Cumbers with the Buildings Garden Orchard and Land to the said Messuage adjoining containing by estimation One Acre be the same more or less with the appurtenances situate lying and being in the Parish of Bisley and within this Manor formerly the Estate of James Miles To the only Use and Behoof of the said Hannah the Wife of the said John Collyer her heirs and assigns for ever Whereupon the said Hannah the Wife of the said John Collyer being present here in Court in her proper person humbly prayed to be admitted Tenant to the said Messuage Buildings Garden Orchard and Land with the appurtenances in pursuance of the said Surrender To whom the Lord of the Manor aforesaid by his Steward aforesaid granted the same and delivered Seizin thereof by the Rod To hold to the said Hannah the Wife of the said John Collyer her heirs and assigns for ever by Copy of Court Roll at the Will of the Lord according to the Custom of the said Manor by the yearly Rent of one penny halfpenny Heriot when it shall happen Suit of Court and other services and Customs therefore formerly due and of right accustomed And so the said Hannah was admitted Tenant thereof in Form aforesaid Gave to the Lord for a Fine for such her Estate therein as appears in the Margin [£7] And her Fealty was pardoned.
And immediately after the admittance of the said Hannah personally came here into Court the said John Collyer and Hannah his Wife And (the said Hannah being first solely and separately examined apart from her said Husband and freely and voluntarily consenting) Surrendered into the hands of the Lord of the Manor aforesaid by the Rod and by the Acceptance of the said Steward according to the Custom of this Manor The said Messuage called Cumbers with the Buildings Garden Orchard and Land to the said Messuage adjoining with the appurtenances To the Use and Behoof of such person or persons and for such estate and interest therein as the said Hannah (notwithstanding her Coverture and whether Covert or Sole) in and by her last Will and Testament in Writing give devise limit direct or appoint the same.
The Homage aforesaid being Sworn and Charged on their oaths Do say and Present That Sarah Sibthorpe Spinster a Copyhold Tenant of this Manor Did on the Ninth day of March last Surrender into the hands of the Lord of this Manor by the Rod and acceptance of the Steward aforesaid All her Copyhold Messuages Lands Tenements and Hereditaments parcel of this Manor To the Use and Behoof of such person or persons and for such estate and Interest therein as she shall in and by her last Will and Testament in Writing Give Devise or Appoint the same.
At this Court came here into Court in his proper person James Gosden one of the Copyhold or Customary Tenants of this Manor And in consideration of the Sum of Twenty pounds to him paid by William Chandler of Bisley in the County of Surrey Farmer Surrendered into the hands of the Lord of the said Manor by the Rod and by the Acceptance of the Steward aforesaid according to the Custom of the said Manor All that Cottage with a Garden Yard and appurtenances situate lying and being in Bisley formerly in the occupation of Henry Pritchett To the only Use and Behoof of the said William Chandler his heirs and assigns for ever Whereupon the said William Chandler being present here in Court in his proper person humbly prayed to be admitted Tenant to the said Cottage Garden Orchard Yard and appurtenances in pursuance of the said Surrender To whom the Lord of the Manor aforesaid by his Steward aforesaid granted the same and delivered Seizin thereof by the Rod To hold to the said the said William Chandler his heirs and assigns for ever by Copy of Court Roll at the Will of the Lord according to the Custom of the said Manor by the yearly Rent of Two pence Heriot when it shall happen Suit of Court and other services and Customs therefore formerly due and of right accustomed And so he was admitted Tenant thereof in Form aforesaid Gave to the Lord for a Fine for such his admittance as appears in the Margin [£1 10s] And his Fealty was respited.
The Homage also present That James Stedman one of the Copyhold or Customary Tenants of this Manor who held to him and his heirs of this Manor by Copy of Court Roll at the Will of the Lord according to the Custom of the said Manor All that one Messuage or Tenement called Goddins with a Barn and all other the Buildings Curtilages Gardens and Orchards thereto belonging and three pieces of Land with the appurtenances thereto adjoining whereof one is called Mead Close containing by estimation three acres with the appurtenances lying in Bisley within this Manor and held by the yearly rent of Nine pence Heriot Suit of Court and other Services And also all those two Closes of arable Land containing by estimation Three acres with the appurtenances in Bisley and held by the yearly rent of One shilling and Four pence Heriot Suit of Court and other Services And also two acres of Land part of a parcel of Land called Miles Grove within this Manor and which said two acres adjoin Port Lane on the East The Common Field called Neltro on the North The Copyhold Land late of William Walden and now William Smith’s called Wheat Leaz on the West and two Acres other part of Miles Grove on the South now William Walkers and also one acre of Land other part of the said parcel of Land called Miles Grove and which are adjoined to Miles Green on the South late James Hone’s on the West and to the said Two acres now William Walkers on the North and held by the Yearly rent of One penny halfpenny Heriot Suit of Court and other Services Died since the last General Court Baron holden for this Manor seized as aforesaid Whereupon three Heriots to wit the three best live Beasts of the said James Stedman became due to the Lord of this Manor But the said James Stedman at the time of his Death had no Live Stock And that in and by his last Will and Testament in Writing bearing date the Fourteenth day of February One thousand eight hundred and six (the Probate Copy whereof was now produced and read in Open Court) the said James Stedman devised as follows Viz.t “All the rest residue and remainder of my real and personal Estate and Effects whatsoever and wheresoever and of what nature kind or quality soever the same may be and which I shall or may be seized possessed of or intitled unto at the time of my decease (Subject Nevertheless to the payment of my Debts Annuities Legacies Funeral and Testamentary Expences) I Give Devise and Bequeath the same and every part and parcel thereof unto my nephew William Chandler his heirs executors administrators and assigns To the only proper Use and Behoof of my said Nephew William Chandler his heirs executors administrators and assigns for ever“ Now at this Court came here into Court in his proper person the said William Chandler and humbly prayed to be admitted Tenant to the said Messuage or Tenement called Goddins with the Barn Buildings Curtilages Gardens Orchards Lands and Appurtenances thereto adjoining which came into the hands of the Lord of this Manor on the death of the said James Stedman To whom the Lord of the Manor aforesaid by his Steward aforesaid granted the same and delivered Seizin thereof by the Rod To hold to the said the said William Chandler his heirs and assigns for ever by Copy of Court Roll at the Will of the Lord according to the Custom of the said Manor by the yearly Rent of Nine pence Heriot when it shall happen Suit of Court and other services and Customs therefore formerly due and of right accustomed And so he was admitted Tenant thereof in Form aforesaid Gave to the Lord for a Fine for such his admittance as appears afterwards And his Fealty was respited.
Also again at this Court came here into Court in his proper person the said William Chandler and humbly prayed to be admitted Tenant to All those the said two Closes of Arable Land containing Three Acres with the Appurtenances in Bisley which came into the hands of the Lord of this Manor on the death of the said James Stedman To whom the Lord of the Manor aforesaid by his Steward aforesaid granted the same and delivered Seizin thereof by the Rod To hold to the said the said William Chandler his heirs and assigns for ever by Copy of Court Roll at the Will of the Lord according to the Custom of the said Manor by the Yearly rent of One shilling and Four pence Heriot when it shall happen Suit of Court and other services and Customs therefore formerly due and of right accustomed And so he was admitted Tenant thereof in Form aforesaid Gave to the Lord for a Fine for such his admittance as appears afterwards And his Fealty was respited.
And again at this Court came here into Court in his proper person the said William Chandler and humbly prayed to be admitted Tenant to the said Two acres of Land part of a parcel of Land called Miles Grove And the said one acre of Land other part of the said parcel of Land called Miles Grove which came into the hands of the Lord of this Manor on the death of the said James Stedman To whom the Lord of the Manor aforesaid by his Steward aforesaid granted the same and delivered Seizin thereof by the Rod To hold to the said the said William Chandler his heirs and assigns for ever by Copy of Court Roll at the Will of the Lord according to the Custom of the said Manor by the yearly rent of One penny halfpenny Heriot when it shall happen Suit of Court and other services and Customs therefore formerly due and of right accustomed And so he was admitted Tenant thereof in Form aforesaid Gave to the Lord for a Fine for this and his two former Admittances on the Death of the said James Stedman as appears in the Margin [£24 10s] And his Fealty was respited.
And immediately after the said several Admittances came here again into Court in his proper person the said William Chandler and Surrendered into the hands of the Lord of the said Manor by the Rod and acceptance of the Steward aforesaid All and every his Copyhold or Customary Messuages Lands Tenements and Hereditaments held as parcel of this Manor To the Use and Behoof of such person or persons and for such Estate and Interest therein as he shall in and by his last Will and Testament in Writing Give Devise Limit Direct or Appoint the same.
Now at this Court came here into Court in his proper person Samuel Suddeby one of the Copyhold or Customary Tenants of the said Manor And in Consideration of the Sum of Eleven pounds to him paid by William Woods the Younger of Naphill in the parish of Wokeing in the County of Surrey Brickburner Surrendered into the hands of the Lord of the said Manor by the Rod and acceptance of the Steward aforesaid All that Copyhold Messuage or Tenement with the Garden thereto belonging containing by estimation One rood formerly belonging to Blanch Wisdom since to John Robinson and late Collyers To the Use and Behoof of the said William Woods his heirs and assigns for ever Upon Condition Nevertheless that if the said Samuel Suddeby his heirs executors administrators or assigns do and shall well and truly pay or cause to be paid unto the said William Woods his executors administrators and assigns the full sum of Eleven pounds together with lawful Interest for the same of lawful English Money on the twelfth day of December next ( over and besides the principal Sum of Seventeen pounds and ten Shillings secured by a Conditional Surrender of the same Premises made by the said Samuel Suddeby to the said William Woods at a Court Baron holden for this Manor on the twentieth day of July One thousand eight hundred and one All Interest for the said Seventeen pounds and ten shillings being paid to the day of holding this Court as the said William Woods doth now at this Court acknowledge) Then the above Surrender to be void and of no effect otherwise to be and remain in full force and virtue.
