A Special Court Baron of The Right Honorable George Lord Onslow and Cranley Lord of the said Manor there held for the said Manor on Thursday the twenty fourth day of July in the fortieth year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord George the third by the Grace of God of Great Britain France and Ireland King Defender of the Faith and so forth And in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred before Joseph Pickstone Gentleman Steward there.

The Homage present that at a General Court Baron holden for the said Manor on the twelfth day of April one thousand seven hundred and eighty Sarah Collyer Spinster by John Skurray her Attorney was admitted to All that Messuage or Tenement called Cowhurst and two Closes called the Barn Closes containing by Estimation four Acres and one Close called the Church Close containing by Estimation three Acres and one Close butting upon the Barn late of Thomas Blundell containing by Estimation three Acres and four Acres called Rasdells lying in Bisley with all and singular the Appurtenances which came into the hands of the Lord of the said Manor on the Surrender of Richard Piercy and Elizabeth his Wife William Piercy and Ann his Wife the above named Sarah Collyer and James Living and Jane his Wife And also to a Parcel of Land called Cobbetts Coppice containing by Estimation two Acres more or less which also came into the hands of the Lord of the said Manor on the Surrender of the said Richard Piercy and Elizabeth his Wife William Piercy and Ann his Wife Sarah Collyer and James Living and Jane his Wife And also to All that Meadow containing by Estimation four Acres adjoining to the Lane leading to Church Mead on the East part and Lands then or late of John Philips on the West part which came into the hands of the Lord of the said Manor on the Surrender of the said Richard Piercy and Elizabeth his Wife And also to all that Parcel of Land called Miles Grove by Estimation four Acres more or less which also came into the hands of the Lord of the said Manor on the Surrender of the said Richard Piercy and Elizabeth his Wife To hold to her the said Sarah Collyer her Heirs and Assigns for ever upon the Trusts and to and for the ends intents and purposes mentioned expressed and declared of and Concerning the same in and by a certain Indenture of five parts bearing date the twenty fifth day of March one thousand seven hundred and seventy eight and made between the said William Piercy and Ann his Wife of the first part the said Sarah Collyer of the second part the said James Living and Jane his Wife of the third part the said Richard Piercy and Elizabeth his Wife of the fourth part and Richard Collyer and John Chandler therein named of the fifth part and to for or upon no other use trust intent or purpose whatsoever Which said Trusts Ends Intents and Purposes are as follow, that is to say, In the first place In Trust and for the end and purpose the better and more effectually to secure the Payment unto her the said Sarah Collyer her Executors Administrators and Assigns of the Principal Sum of One thousand Pounds and the Interest thereof as in the said Indenture mentioned and subject to such Trust In trust for the said Richard Piercy and his Assigns for and during his natural Life and after his decease In trust for better securing the Principal of a certain Clear Annuity or Yearly Rent Charge of Forty Pounds unto the said Elizabeth Piercy and her Assigns for and during the term of her natural Life if she should survive him and all Charges relating thereto as in the said Indenture also mentioned And subject thereto In trust during the Life of her the said Elizabeth Piercy for the Heirs and Assigns of the said Richard Piercy and from and after the death of the Survivor of them the said Richard Piercy and Elizabeth his Wife In trust for the better securing and raising a certain Sum of One thousand Pounds by the said Indenture provided to be then raised out of certain Freehold Premises therein particularly mentioned and described for the portions of the Children of the said Richard Piercy and Elizabeth his Wife then living and the Issue of such of their Children as should be then dead leaving any Issue then living according to the Declarations and Agreements therein contained for that purpose and Interest for the same and all Costs and Charges relating thereto as in the said Indenture also mentioned and Subject to all the Trusts aforesaid In trust for the said Richard Piercy his Heirs and Assigns for ever as in and by the said Indenture reference being thereunto had will more fully and at large appear
And the Homage further present that the said Richard Piercy and Elizabeth his Wife had Issue two Sons namely Richard Piercy and James Piercy and no other Children And that the said Richard Piercy the Father and Elizabeth his Wife have both long since departed this Life And the said Richard Piercy the Son is also dead having never been married And that the said James Piercy now of Bromsden in the County of Oxford Yeoman and who is of full age is intitled to the aforesaid Premises as the only Surviving Child and Customary Heir of the said Richard Piercy the Father And also as the only Brother and Customary Heir of the said Richard Piercy the Son And the said Sarah Collyer being fully paid and satisfied all Principal and Interest Monies due and owing to her under or by virtue of the Security herein before mentioned as she (being now present here in Court) doth admit and acknowledge the said James Piercy hath requested her to surrender all and singular the Copyhold Hereditaments and Premises herein before mentioned and described with their Appurtenances into the hands of the Lord of the said Manor To the use and behoof of him the said James Piercy his Heirs and Assigns for ever which she hath consented and agreed to do And whereupon she the said Sarah Collyer being still present here in Court in her proper Person Surrendered into the hands of the Lord of the said Manor by the Rod and by the acceptance of the aforesaid Steward and according to the Custom of the said Manor all that Messuage or Tenement called Cowhurst and two Closes called the Barn Closes containing by Estimation four Acres and one Close called the Church Close containing by Estimation three Acres and one Close butting upon the Barn late of Thomas Blundell containing by Estimation three Acres and four Acres called Rasdells lying in Bisley with all and singular the Appurtenances And also a Parcel of Land called Cobbetts Coppice containing by Estimation two Acres more or less And also all that Meadow containing by Estimation four Acres adjoining to the Lane leading to Church Mead on the East part and Lands then or late of John Phillips on the West part And also all that Parcel of Land called Miles Grove by Estimation four Acres more or less To the only use and behoof of the said James Piercy his Heirs and Assigns for ever according to the Custom of the said Manor and to or for no other use intent or purpose whatsoever Now at this Court came here into Court in his proper person the said James Piercy and humbly prayed to be Admitted to All that Customary Messuage or Tenement called Cowhurst and two Closes called the Barn Closes containing by Estimation four Acres and one Close called the Church Close containing by Estimation three Acres and one Close butting upon the Barn late of Thomas Blundell containing by Estimation three Acres and four Acres called Rasdells lying in Bisley with all and singular the Appurtenances which came into the hands of the Lord of the said Manor on the Surrender of the said Sarah Collyer To whom the Lord of the Manor aforesaid by his Steward aforesaid granted the same and delivered Seizin thereof by the Rod To hold to the said James Piercy his Heirs and Assigns for ever by Copy of Court Roll at the will of the Lord according to the Custom of the said Manor by the yearly Rent of two shillings Heriot when it shall happen Suit of Court and other Services and Customs therefore formerly due and of right accustomed And the said James Piercy was admitted Tenant thereof in form aforesaid Gave nothing for a Fine for through favour of the Lord because his Admittance was for further Assurance only and his Fealty was respited.
And again at this Court the said James Piercy being still here in Court in his proper person prayed to be Admitted to the said Parcel of Land called Cobbetts Coppice which also came into the hands of the Lord of the said Manor on the Surrender of the said Sarah Collyer To whom the Lord of the Manor aforesaid by his Steward aforesaid granted the same and delivered Seizin thereof by the Rod To hold to the said James Piercy his Heirs and Assigns for ever by Copy of Court Roll at the will of the Lord according to the Custom of the said Manor by the Yearly Rent of two pence Heriot when it shall happen Suit of Court and other Services and Customs therefore formerly due and of right accustomed And the said James Piercy was admitted Tenant thereof in form aforesaid Gave to the Lord nothing as a Fine for the reason before assigned and his Fealty was respited.
Also again at this Court the said James Piercy being still here in Court in his proper person prayed to be Admitted to All that the said All that Meadow adjoining to the Lane leading to Church Mead on the East part and Lands now or late of John Philips on the West part which also came into the hands of the Lord of the said Manor on the Surrender of the said Sarah Collyer To whom the Lord of the Manor aforesaid by his Steward aforesaid granted the same and delivered Seizin thereof by the Rod To hold to the said James Piercy his Heirs and Assigns for ever by Copy of Court Roll at the will of the Lord according to the Custom of the said Manor by the Yearly Rent of Six pence Heriot when it shall happen Suit of Court and other Services and Customs therefore formerly due and of right accustomed And so he was admitted Tenant thereof in form aforesaid Gave to the Lord nothing as a Fine for the reason aforesaid and his Fealty was respited.
Also again afterwards at this Court the said James Piercy being still here in Court in his proper person prayed to be Admitted to the said Parcel of Land called Miles Grove which also came into the hands of the Lord of the said Manor on the Surrender of the said Sarah Collyer To whom the Lord of the Manor aforesaid by his Steward aforesaid granted the same and delivered Seizin thereof by the Rod To hold to the said James Piercy his Heirs and Assigns for ever by Copy of Court Roll at the will of the Lord according to the Custom of the said Manor by the Yearly Rent of Three pence Heriot when it shall happen Suit of Court and other Services and Customs therefore formerly due and of right accustomed And so he was admitted Tenant thereof in form aforesaid Gave to the Lord as a Fine nothing for the reason above assigned and his Fealty was respited.
And after his said several Admittances the said James Piercy being still here in Court in his proper Person Surrendered into the hands of the Lord of the said Manor by the Rod and by the acceptance of the aforesaid Steward and according to the Custom of the said Manor All that the said Messuage or Tenement called Cowhurst and two Closes called the Barn Closes containing by Estimation four Acres and one Close called the Church Close containing by Estimation three Acres and one Close butting upon the Barn late of Thomas Blundell containing by Estimation three Acres and four Acres called Rasdells lying in Bisley with all and singular the Appurtenances And also the said Parcel of Land called Cobbetts Coppice containing by Estimation two Acres more or less And also all that the said Meadow containing by Estimation four Acres adjoining to the Lane leading to Church Mead on the East part and Lands now or late of John Philips on the West part And also all that the said Parcel of Land called Miles Grove by Estimation four Acres more or less To the only use and behoof of James Living of Chertsey in the County of Surrey Gentleman his Heirs and Assigns for ever according to the Custom of the said Manor and to and for no other use intent or purpose whatsoever Now at this Court came here into Court in his proper Person the said James Living and humbly prayed to be admitted to the said Messuage or Tenement called Cowhurst and two Closes called the Barn Closes and one Close called the Church Close and one Close abutting upon the Barn late of Thomas Blundell and four Acres called Rasdells with all and singular the Appurtenances in pursuance of the said last mentioned Surrender To whom the Lord of the Manor aforesaid by his Steward aforesaid granted the same and delivered Seizin thereof by the Rod To hold to the said James Living his Heirs and Assigns for ever by Copy of Court Roll at the will of the Lord according to the Custom of the said Manor by the Yearly Rent of two shillings and four pence Heriot when it shall happen Suit of Court and other Services and Customs therefore formerly due and of right accustomed And so the said James Living was admitted Tenant thereof in form aforesaid but was excused by the Lord from paying any Fine because the said last mentioned Surrender and this Admittance were for further Assurance only And his Fealty was respited.
And again at this Court the said James Living being still here in Court in his proper Person and prayed to be admitted to the said Parcel of Land called Cobbetts Coppice in pursuance of the said last mentioned Surrender To whom the Lord of the Manor aforesaid by his Steward aforesaid granted the same and delivered Seizin thereof by the Rod To hold to the said James Living his Heirs and Assigns for ever by Copy of Court Roll at the will of the Lord according to the Custom of the said Manor by the Yearly Rent of Two Pence Heriot when it shall happen Suit of Court and other Services and Customs therefore formerly due and of right accustomed And the said James Living was admitted Tenant thereof in form aforesaid was excused from the payment of any Fine for the reason last above assigned and his Fealty was respited.
And again at this Court the said James Living being still here in Court in his proper Person and prayed to be admitted to the said Meadow adjoining to the Lane leading to Church Mead on the East part and Lands now or late of John Philips on the West part in pursuance of the said last mentioned Surrender To whom the Lord of the Manor aforesaid by his Steward aforesaid granted the same and delivered Seizin thereof by the Rod To hold to the said James Living his Heirs and Assigns for ever by Copy of Court Roll at the will of the Lord according to the Custom of the said Manor by the Yearly Rent of Six Pence Heriot when it shall happen Suit of Court and other Services and Customs therefore formerly due and of right accustomed And the said James Living was admitted Tenant thereof in form aforesaid Gave nothing to the Lord for a Fine for the reason aforesaid and his Fealty was respited.
Also again at this Court the said James Living being still here in Court in his proper Person and prayed to be admitted to the said Parcel of Land called Miles Grove in pursuance of the said last mentioned Surrender To whom the Lord of the Manor aforesaid by his Steward aforesaid granted the same and delivered Seizin thereof by the Rod To hold to the said James Living his Heirs and Assigns for ever by Copy of Court Roll at the will of the Lord according to the Custom of the said Manor by the Yearly Rent of three pence Heriot when it shall happen Suit of Court and other Services and Customs therefore formerly due and of right accustomed And so the said James Living was admitted Tenant thereof in form aforesaid Gave nothing for a Fine through favour of the Lord for the reason before assigned and his Fealty was respited.
And immediately after his said several Admittances came again here in Court in his proper Person the said James Living and Surrendered into the hands of the Lord of the said Manor by the Rod and by the acceptance of the aforesaid Steward and according to the Custom of the said Manor All that Meadow containing by Estimation four Acres adjoining to the Lane leading to Church Mead on the East part and Lands now or late of John Philips on the West part To the only use and behoof of James Loveland the Elder of Bisley in the County of Surrey Yeoman his Heirs and Assigns for ever according to the Custom of the said Manor and to or for no other use intent or purpose whatsoever Whereupon the said James Loveland being present in Court in his proper Person humbly prayed of the Lord of the said Manor to be admitted to the said Meadow adjoining to the Lane leading to Church Mead as aforesaid which came into the hands of the Lord on the Surrender of the said James Living To whom the Lord of the Manor aforesaid by his Steward aforesaid granted the same and delivered Seizin thereof by the Rod To hold to the said James Loveland his Heirs and Assigns for ever by Copy of Court Roll at the will of the Lord according to the Custom of the said Manor by the Yearly Rent of Six pence Heriot when it shall happen Suit of Court and other Services and Customs therefore formerly due and of right accustomed And the said James Loveland was admitted Tenant thereof in form aforesaid Gave to the Lord for a Fine as appears in the Margin [£9 14s 6d] And his Fealty was respited.
And also at this Court came here again into Court in his proper Person the said James Living after his said several Admittances and Surrendered into the hands of the Lord of the said Manor by the Rod and by the acceptance of the aforesaid Steward and according to the Custom of the said Manor All those four Acres called Rasdells lying in two Closes in Bisley within this Manor One Close whereof is Arable Land and the other Meadow Ground To the only use and behoof of Stephen Stepto of Horsell in the County of Surrey Farmer his Heirs and Assigns for ever according to the Custom of the said Manor and to or for no other use intent or purpose whatsoever Whereupon the said Stephen Stepto being present here in Court in his proper Person humbly prayed of the Lord of this Manor to be admitted to the said four Acres called Rasdells which came into the hands of the Lord on the Surrender of the said James Living To whom the Lord of the Manor aforesaid by his Steward aforesaid granted the same and delivered Seizin thereof by the Rod To hold to the said Stephen Stepto his Heirs and Assigns for ever by Copy of Court Roll at the will of the Lord according to the Custom of the said Manor by the Yearly Rent of Eight pence as now apportioned at this Court Heriot when it shall happen Suit of Court and other Services and Customs therefore formerly due and of right accustomed And the said Stephen Stepto was admitted Tenant thereof in form aforesaid gave to the Lord for a Fine as appears in the Margin [£6] And his Fealty was respited.
At this Court the Yearly Rent of two shillings and four pence due and payable to the Lord of this Manor for the Messuage or Tenement herein before mentioned called Cowhurst with the Barn Closes, the Church Close, the Close abutting upon the Barn late Blundells and the said four Acres called Rasdells was apportioned as follows, to wit, for the said four Acres called Rasdells to which the said Stephen Stepto hath been now admitted Eight pence and for the remaining part of the said Premises One shilling and eight pence.
And immediately after his said Admittance came again here into Court in his proper Person the said Stephen Stepto and Surrendered into the hands of the Lord of the said Manor by the Rod and by the acceptance of the aforesaid Steward and according to the Custom of the said Manor All and every the Messuages Lands Tenements and Hereditaments of him the said Stephen Stepto held by Copy of Court Roll as part and parcel of this Manor To the use of such Person or Persons and for such Estate and Interest therein as he the said Stephen Stepto shall in and by his last Will and Testament in Writing give devise limit direct or appoint the same.
