Admittance of William Cobbett
At this Court upon the third Proclamation came here into Court in his proper person James Cobbett and humbly prayed to be admitted Tenant to All that piece or parcel of the waste land of this Manor lying near Staverk Lake containing by estimation Seventy rods more or less lately inclosed by William Cobbett deceased with the Cottage or Tenement thereon erected with the appurtenances which came into the hands of the lord of this Manor on the death of William Cobbett To whom the Lord of the Manor aforesaid by his Steward aforesaid granted the same and delivered seizin thereof by the rod To hold to the said William Cobbett his heirs and assigns for ever by Copy of Court Roll at the Will of the Lord according to the Custom of the said Manor by the yearly rent of One penny Heriot when it shall happen Suit of Court and other services and customs therefore formerly due and of right accustomed And so he was admitted Tenant thereof in form aforesaid The fine to the Lord for such his admittance was set at four pounds to be paid to the Steward aforesaid at the Public House called The Hen and Chicken in Bisley aforesaid for the use of the lord of the said Manor on the twenty fifth day of September next between the hours of ten and twelve of the clock in the forenoon and his fealty was respited.
Guardianship
And because it appears to this Court that the said William Cobbett is an Infant under the age of twenty one years to wit of the age of twenty Years or thereabouts the Custody as well of the person of the said William Cobbett as of his said Estate is granted to his Mother Ann the wife of Frank Taylor until the said Infant shall attain the age of twenty one years She the said Ann Taylor keeping and observing the Customs of the said Manor in all things and keeping the Premises in good repair and rendering an Account of the rents and profits of the Premises to the said Infant when he shall attain his said age of twenty one years And the said Ann Taylor is admitted Guardian accordingly.
Conditional Surrender George Hill to Reverend Thomas Hockley
The Homage aforesaid being sworn and charged on their Oath Present a certain Surrender taken out of Court and since the last Court in the words following to wit “Manor of Bisley in the County of Surrey - Be it remembered that on the Fifteenth day of July in the year of Our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty nine George Hill of Bisley in the County of Surrey Husbandman one of the Copyhold or Customary Tenants of the said Manor personally came before Joseph Hockley Gentleman Steward of the Courts of the said Manor out of Court and in consideration of the Sum of One hundred and forty pounds of lawful Money of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland of English value and currency to him the said George Hill in hand well and truly paid by The Reverend Thomas Hockley of Tadley in the said County of Southampton Clerk Hath surrendered and by these Presents Doth surrender into the hands of the lord of the said Manor by the Rod and by the acceptance of his said Steward and according to the custom of the said Manor the several parts and parcels hereinafter mentioned and described of All that Copyhold Messuage or Tenement called Radsells Grove with the Barn Buildings Orchards Gardens and all the lands thereto belonging with the appurtenances containing by estimation five acres more or less in the Parish of Bisley late in the occupation of William Slaughter and since of John Hill that is to say the South end of the said Messuage the Garden before it the Orchard behind it half the Barn the West end half of the yard and four plots of ground one against the house two before that and one against the common southward containing about two acres and an half more or less to which Premises the said George Hill was admitted Tenant at a General Court Baron held for the said Manor on the twenty seventh day of October one thousand eight hundred and twenty five And the reversion and reversions remainder and remainders rents issues and profits thereof And all the estate right title interest property possession claim and demand whatsoever of the said George Hill of into or out of the same Premises and every part and parcel thereof To the only proper and absolute use and behoof of the said Thomas Hockley his heirs and assigns for ever according to the custom of the said Manor Provided always and upon this Condition nevertheless that if the said George Hill his heirs executors administrators or assigns do and shall well and truly pay or cause to be paid unto the said Thomas Hockley his executors administrators or assigns the full and just sum of One hundred and forty pounds together with Interest for the same after the rate of five pounds for one hundred pounds for a year of lawful money of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland of English value and currency upon the fifteenth day of January next ensuing the date hereof without any deduction or abatement to be made or taken out of the same on any account whatsoever and without fraud or further delay Then this surrender to be void and of no effect otherwise to remain in full force and virtue George Hill This Surrender was taken the day and year first above written by the acceptance of me Joseph Hockley Stew.d In the Presence of Rob.t B Pooley Received on the day and year first above written of and from the above named Thomas Hockley the full sum of One hundred and forty pounds being the consideration Money above mentioned to be paid by him to me George Hill Witness Rob.t B Pooley £140”

Conditional Surrender John Hill to Edward Lepherd
The Homage also Present a certain other Surrender taken out of Court and since the last General Court in the words following to wit “Manor of Bisley in the County of Surrey Be it remembered that on the twenty seventh day of July in the year of Our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty nine John Hill of the Parish of Bisley in the County of Surrey Laborer one of the Copyhold or Customary Tenants of the said Manor Did for and in consideration of the Sum of Two hundred pounds of sterling money of Great Britain to him in hand well and truly paid by Edward Lepherd of Plaistow in the Parish of Kirdford in the County of Sussex Shopkeeper (the receipt whereof is thereby acknowledged) out of Court Surrender into the hands of the Lord of the said Manor by the Rod and acceptance of Joseph Hockley Gentleman the Steward of the said Manor according to the custom of the said Manor All that piece or parcel of Land lately inclosed from the Waste containing by estimation one acre and twenty two rods lying at Riding Hill on the South West side of the Garden of the said John Hill (to which the said John Hill was admitted at a Court held for the said Manor on the twelfth day of November one thousand eight hundred and thirty eight on the voluntary Grant of the Lord by the Deputy Steward) And the reversion and reversions remainder and remainders thereof And all the estate right title interest use trust property possession claim and demand whatsoever of him the said John Hill of in to or out of the same Premises and every or any part thereof To the use and behoof of the said Edward Lepherd his heirs and assigns for ever according to the Custom of the Manor of Bisley aforesaid Subject Nevertheless to the Proviso or Condition hereinafter contained (that is to say) Provided always and upon this condition Nevertheless That if the said John Hill his heirs executors administrators or assigns or any of them do and shall well and truly pay or cause to be paid unto the said Edward Lepherd his executors administrators or assigns the full Sum of Two hundred pounds of sterling (being the same Principal Money as is Secured by a certain Indenture of Mortgage bearing date the twenty seventh day of July one thousand eight hundred and thirty nine and made between the said John Hill of the first part William Woods Yeoman of the second part Charles Howard, Grocer of the third part and the said Edward Lepherd of the fourth part and upon which said Mortgage the ad valorein duty of Two pounds has been paid) with Interest for the same after the rate of five pounds for every hundred pounds for one year upon the twenty Seventh day of January now next ensuing without fraud or delay and without making any deduction or abatement out of the same for or on account of any manner of taxes payments or impositions or any other matter cause or thing whatsoever Then this Surrender to be void and of no effect otherwise to be and remain in full force and virtue ~ The Mark X of John Hill ~ Taken and accepted the day and year first above written by and before me Joseph Hockley Steward In the presence of John Debenham Received of and from the above named Edward Lepherd the Sum of Two hundred pounds being the Consideration Money above mentioned to be paid by him to me The Mark of X John Hill Witness John Debenham. £200”
Conditional Surrender Henry Knight to Reverend Thomas Hockley
The Homage also Present a certain other Surrender taken out of Court and since the last Court in the words following to wit “Manor of Bisley in the County of Surrey - Be it remembered that on the tenth day of August in the year of Our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty nine Henry Knight of Bisley in the County of Surrey Husbandman one of the Copyhold or Customary Tenants of the said Manor personally came before Joseph Hockley Gentleman Steward of the Courts of the said Manor out of Court and in consideration of the Sum of Seventy five pounds of lawful Money of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland of English value and currency to him the said Henry Knight in hand well and truly paid by The Reverend Thomas Hockley of Tadley in the said County of Southampton Clerk Hath surrendered and by these Presents Doth surrender into the hands of the lord of the said Manor by the rod and by the acceptance of the Steward and according to the custom of the said Manor All that Copyhold Messuage or Tenement with all the Copyhold Lands by estimation half an acre of land more or less situate lying and being near Bisley Green with all the appurtenances thereunto belonging late the estate of Elizabeth Dudman formerly Elizabeth Collyer to which Premises the said Henry Knight was admitted Tenant at a General Court Baron held for the said Manor on the twenty seventh day of April one thousand eight hundred and thirty And the reversion and reversions remainder and remainders rents issues and profits thereof And all the estate right title interest property possession claim and demand whatsoever of the said Henry Knight of in to or out of the same Premises and every part and parcel thereof To the only proper and absolute use and behoof of the said Thomas Hockley his heirs and assigns for ever according to the custom of the said Manor Provided always and upon this Condition Nevertheless that if the said Henry Knight his heirs executors administrators or assigns do and shall well and truly pay or cause to be paid unto the said Thomas Hockley his executors administrators or assigns the full and just sum of Seventy five pounds together with Interest for the same after the rate of Five pounds for One hundred pounds for a year of lawful money of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland of English value and currency upon the tenth day of February next ensuing the date hereof without any deduction or abatement to be made or taken out of the same on any account whatsoever and without fraud or further delay Then this surrender to be void and of no effect otherwise to remain in full force and virtue The Mark X of Henry Knight This Surrender was taken the day and year first above written by the acceptance of me Joseph Hockley Stew.d In the Presence of Edmund Vincent Received on the day and year first above written of and from the above named Thomas Hockley the full sum of Seventy five pounds being the consideration Money above mentioned to be paid by him to me The X Mark of Henry Knight Witness Edmund Vincent £75”
Absolute Surrender William Simmonds to James Hone the younger
The Homage also Present a certain other Surrender taken out of Court and since the last Court to wit on the thirtieth day of November in the year of Our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty nine Whereby William Simmonds of Winkfield in the County of Berks Blacksmith one of the Copyhold or Customary Tenants of the said Manor in consideration of the Sum of forty pounds to him paid by James Hone the younger of Bisley aforesaid Nurseryman did surrender into the hands of the lord of the said Manor by the Rod and by the acceptance of the Steward of the said Manor according to the Custom thereof All that Cottage with a Garden Yard and appurtenances situate lying and being in Bisley aforesaid formerly in the occupation of William Pritchett and then or late of William Harvey held by the yearly rent of Two pence Heriot when it shall happen Suit of Court and other Services To the only proper and absolute use and behoof of the said James Hone his heirs and assigns for ever
1st Proclamation
At this Court the first Proclamation was made for the said James Hone or any other person or persons who hath or have a right to be admitted to All that the said cottage with a Garden yard and appurtenances which came into the hands of the Lord of this Manor on the Surrender of William Simmonds to come into Court and take the same out of the hands of the Lord of this Manor but no one came Whereupon the first Proclamation and default are here inrolled.
Conditional Surrender William Chandler and Elizabeth his Wife to Catherine Grove
The Homage also Present a certain other Surrender taken out of Court and since the last Court in the words following to wit “Manor of Bisley in the County of Surrey - Be it remembered that on the fourth day of May in the year of Our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty William Chandler of Bisley in the County of Surrey Yeoman and Elizabeth his Wife late Elizabeth Foster Spinster which said Elizabeth is one of the Copyhold or Customary Tenants of the said Manor (in consideration of the Sum of Two hundred pounds of lawful Money of Great Britain to them in hand paid by Catherine Grove of Stoke next Guildford in the said County of Surrey Spinster at or immediately before the making this Surrender as the said William Chandler and Elizabeth his Wife do hereby acknowledge and declare came before Joseph Hockley Gentleman Steward of the Courts of the said Manor out of Court and (the said Elizabeth being first Separately examined apart from her said Husband by the said Steward and freely and voluntarily consenting thereto) Have and each of them Hath Surrendered and by these Presents Do and each of them Doth surrender into the hands of the lord of the said Manor by the rod and by the acceptance of the said Steward according to the custom of the said Manor All that Customary or Copyhold Parcel of Land with the appurtenances lying in four severals containing by estimation Seven acres more or less lying in Bisley within this Manor (To which the said Elizabeth Chandler was admitted at a General Court Baron holden for the said Manor the twenty sixth day of October one thousand eight hundred and twenty on the death of Isaac Foster the elder) And the reversion and reversions remainder and remainders rents issues and profits thereof And all the estate right title interest property possession claim and demand whatsoever of them the said William Chandler and Elizabeth his Wife and each of them of in and to the said Premises and every part and parcel thereof To the only proper use and behoof of the said Catherine Grove her heirs and assigns for ever according to the custom of the said Manor Provided always and upon this Condition Nevertheless that if the said William Chandler and Elizabeth his Wife or either of them or either of their heirs executors administrators or assigns do and shall well and truly pay or cause to be paid unto the said Catherine Grove her executors administrators or assigns the full and just sum of Two hundred pounds together with Interest for the same after the rate of Five pounds for One hundred pounds for a year of lawful money of Great Britain upon the fourth day of November next ensuing the date hereof without any deduction or abatement to be made or taken out of the same on any account whatsoever and without fraud or further delay Then this surrender to be void and of no effect otherwise to remain in full force and virtue William Chandler – Elizabeth Chandler This Surrender was taken the day and year first above written by the acceptance of me Joseph Hockley Stew.d Received on the day and year first above written of and from the above named Catherine Grove the full sum of Two hundred pounds being the consideration Money above mentioned to be paid by her to us William Chandler – Elizabeth Chandler Witness Edmund Vincent £200”

Absolute Surrender Stephen Steptoe to James Bedford
The Homage also Present a certain other Surrender taken out of Court and since the last Court to wit on the sixteenth day of September one thousand eight hundred and forty Whereby Stephen Steptoe of Bisley in the County of Surrey Husbandman one of the Copyhold or Customary Tenants of the said Manor in consideration of Ten shillings to him paid by James Bedford of Knaphill in the Parish of Woking in the County of Surrey Grocer and in consideration of the Sum of Three hundred pounds to be paid by the said James Bedford to Job Carter of Knaphill aforesaid and Mary his Wife on account of the Mortgages thereinafter mentioned did surrender into the hands of the Lord of the said Manor by the rod and by the acceptance of Joseph Bedford and James Steptoe two other Copyhold or Customary Tenants of the said Manor All that Copyhold Close or Parcel of Arable Land situate at Bisley aforesaid containing by estimation five acres and seven perches more or less late in the occupation of William Steptoe To the only proper and absolute use and behoof of the said James Bedford his heirs and assigns for ever Subject Nevertheless to the payment of the principal Sum of Three hundred pounds part of the Sum of Three hundred and twenty five pounds then due and owing to Mary the Wife of the said Job Carter upon Mortgages of the said premises with other hereditaments and the Interest thenceforth to grow due for the same and which said Sum of Three hundred pounds was in fact the full consideration money for the absolute purchase of the said hereditaments

Now at this Court upon the first Proclamation came here into Court in his proper person the said James Bedford and humbly prayed to be admitted Tenant to All that the said Copyhold Close or Parcel of Land together with the Messuage or Tenement thereon erected in pursuance of the said Surrender To whom the Lord of the Manor aforesaid by his Steward aforesaid granted the same and delivered seizin thereof by the rod To hold to the said James Bedford his heirs and assigns for ever by Copy of Court Roll at the Will of the Lord according to the Custom of the said Manor by the yearly rent of four pence Heriot when it shall happen Suit of Court and other services and customs therefore formerly due and of right accustomed And so he was admitted Tenant thereof in form aforesaid The Fine to the Lord for such his admittance was set at Fourteen pounds five shillings to be paid to the Steward aforesaid at the Public House called the Hen and Chicken in Bisley aforesaid for the use of the Lord of the said Manor on the thirty first day of May next between the hours of ten and twelve of the clock in the forenoon and his fealty was respited.
Conditional Surrender John Knowles and James Stedman to James Moore Wilkins
The Homage also Present a certain other Surrender taken out of Court and since the last Court in the words following to wit “Manor of Bisley in the County of Surrey - Be it remembered that on the first day of August in the year of Our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty John Knowles of Horsell in the County of Surrey Farmer and James Stedman of Horsell aforesaid maltster (the devisees in trust named in the last Will and Testament of William Smith late of the Parish of Bisley in the said County Farmer) two of the Copyhold or Customary Tenants of the said Manor personally came before Joseph Hockley Gentleman Steward of the Courts of the said Manor out of Court and in consideration of the Sum of Three hundred pounds of lawful Money of Great Britain to them in hand well and truly paid by James Moore Wilkins of Guildford in the County of Surrey Bargemaster Have and each of them Hath Surrendered and by these Presents Do and each of them Doth surrender into the hands of the lord of the said Manor by the rod and by the acceptance of the said Steward and according to the custom of the said Manor All that Parcel of Copyhold Land called Wheat Leaz with the appurtenances containing by estimation ten acres more or less situate in the Parish of Bisley within the Manor aforesaid And also all that one Messuage with the appurtenances at Gateshed end with the Barn Garden Orchard and about one acre and an half of Land to the same adjoining and belonging lying within the said Manor heretofore in the occupation of Thomas May And also all that quarter of an acre of land with the appurtenances in Bisley within this Manor late Richard Freelands whereon a Cottage did lately stand (To which said several premises the said John Knowles and James Stedman were admitted at a General Court Baron holden for the said Manor on the twenty sixth day of April one thousand eight hundred and thirty one on the death of the said William Smith) And the reversion and reversions remainder and remainders yearly and other rents issues and profits thereof And all the estate right title interest claim and demand whatsoever of them the said John Knowles and James Stedman of in and to the said Premises and every part and parcel thereof To the only proper use and behoof of the said James Moore Wilkins his heirs and assigns for ever according to the custom of the said Manor Provided always and upon this Condition Nevertheless that if the said John Knowles and James Stedman or either of them their or either of their heirs executors administrators or assigns do and shall well and truly pay or cause to be paid unto the said James Moore Wilkins his executors administrators or assigns the full and just sum of Three hundred pounds together with Interest for the same after the rate of Five pounds for every one hundred pounds for a year of lawful money of Great Britain upon the first day of February next ensuing the date hereof without any deduction or abatement to be made or taken out of the same on any account whatsoever and without fraud or further delay Then this surrender to be void and of no effect otherwise to remain in full force and virtue John Knowles – James Stedman This Surrender was taken the day and year first above written by the acceptance of me Joseph Hockley Steward Received on the day of the date of the above written Surrender of and from the above named James Moore Wilkins the sum of Three hundred pounds being the full consideration money above mentioned to be paid by him to us John Knowles – James Stedman Witness Edmund Vincent Rob.t B Pooley £300”

The Homage also Present a certain other Surrender taken out of Court and since the last Court in the words following to wit “Manor of Bisley in the County of Surrey - Be it remembered that on the third day of October in the year of Our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty James Hone of Bisley in the County of Surrey Nurseryman one of the Copyhold or Customary Tenants of the said Manor personally came before Joseph Hockley Gentleman Steward of the Courts of the said Manor out of Court and in consideration of the Sum of Two Hundred pounds of lawful Money of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland of English value and currency to him the said James Hone in hand well and truly paid by The Reverend Arthur Onslow of Send in the said County of Surrey Clerk Hath surrendered And by these Presents Doth surrender into the hands of the lord of the said Manor by the rod and by the acceptance of the said Steward and according to the Custom of the said Manor All those three acres of Land with the Messuage thereupon erected with the appurtenances formerly parcel of the waste of the said Manor lying at Hassell Hall between Cowshott and Stavake Lane in Bisley within the said Manor and late in the tenure of Robert Goodener his undertenants or assigns and now of the said James Hone to which said premises the said James Hone was admitted Tenant at a Special Court Baron held for the said Manor on the twentieth day of September one thousand eight hundred and thirty three And the reversion and reversions remainder and remainders rents issues and profits thereof And also all the Estate right title interest property possession claim and demand whatsoever of the said James Hone of in to or out of the said premises and every part and parcel thereof To the only proper and absolute use and behoof of the said Arthur Onslow his heirs and assigns for ever according to the custom of the said Manor Provided always and upon this Condition Nevertheless that if the said James Hone his heirs executors administrators or assigns do and shall well and truly pay or cause to be paid unto the said Arthur Onslow his executors administrators or assigns the full and just sum of Two hundred pounds together with Interest for the same after the rate of Five pounds for every one hundred pounds for a year of lawful money of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland of English value and currency upon the third day of April next ensuing the date hereof without any deduction or abatement to be made or taken out of the same on any account whatsoever and without fraud or further delay Then this surrender to be void and of no effect otherwise to remain in full force and virtue James Hone This Surrender was taken the day and year first above written by the acceptance of me Joseph Hockley Steward Received on the day and year first above written of and from the above named Arthur Onslow the sum of Two hundred pounds being the consideration Money above mentioned to be paid by him to me James Hone Witness Edmund Vincent £200”

Conditional Surrender John Field to Daniel Gosden

Death of James Gyles
The Homage also Present That James Gyles late one of the Copyhold or Customary Tenants of the said Manor who held to him and his heirs by Copy of Court Roll at the Will of the Lord according to the Custom of the said Manor All that Cottage or Tenement with all the Lands thereto belonging containing by estimation one acre and an half or thereabouts formerly in the occupation of John Crouch and late of John Carman situate lying and being within and holden of the said Manor by the yearly rent of Six pence Heriot when it shall happen Suit of Court and other services and customs And also all those two acres of Land part of a parcel of Land called Miles Grove within this Manor and which said two acres of Land adjoin Port Lane on the east the Copyhold land late of William Walden called Wheat Leaz on the West two acres other part of Miles Grove heretofore surrendered by James Living to the use of James Steadman on the north and to an acre other part of Miles Grove heretofore surrendered by the said James Living to the use of James Steadman and another part of Miles Grove also heretofore surrendered by the said James Living to the use of James Hone on the south held by the yearly apportioned rent of One penny Heriot when it shall happen Suit of Court and other customs and services Died since the last Court so thereof seized Whereupon there became due to the Lord of this Manor for Heriots the two best live Beasts of the said James Gyles but that none were seized he having no live animal at the time of his decease
His Will
And the Homage further Present That the said James Gyles duly made and published his last Will and Testament in Writing (the Probate whereof was produced and read in open Court) bearing date the twenty first day of December one thousand eight hundred and thirty three Whereby he devised as follows “I give and devise unto my said Wife Sarah Giles All that my freehold messuage or cottage with the piece of Land thereto belonging situate near the Hermitage in the Parish of Woking in the said County of Surrey and now or lately in the occupation of Thomas Boxall or his assigns And also all that my Copyhold Messuage or Cottage and two acres and a half of Land or thereabouts with the appurtenances situate within and held of the Manor of Bisley in the said County of Surrey And also all those my two acres of Copyhold Land (be the same little more or less) situate within and held of the Manor of Bisley aforesaid which I have lately purchased of and from William Walker of Bisley aforesaid Husbandman To hold the said three several Estates unto her my said Wife Sarah Giles according to the several natures and tenures thereof and to her heirs and assigns for ever” And they also Present That the said Sarah Gyles afterwards intermarried with and is now the Wife of Henry Cook.
Admittance of Sarah Cook
Now at this Court upon the first Proclamation came here into Court in her proper person the said Sarah Cook and humbly prayed to be admitted Tenant to All that Cottage or Tenement with all the Lands thereto belonging containing by estimation one acre and an half or thereabouts which came into the hands of the Lord of this Manor on the death of the said James Gyles To whom the Lord of the Manor aforesaid by his Steward aforesaid granted the same and delivered seizin thereof by the rod To hold to the said Sarah Cook her heirs and assigns for ever by Copy of Court Roll at the Will of the Lord according to the Custom of the said Manor by the yearly rent of Sixpence Heriot when it shall happen Suit of Court and other services and customs therefore formerly due and of right accustomed And so she was admitted Tenant thereof in form aforesaid and gave to the Lord as a Fine for such her admittance as appears in the margin [£10] and her Fealty was pardoned.

Surrender of Henry Cook and Sarah his Wife to her Will
And afterwards at this Court upon the first Proclamation came here into Court in their proper person the said Henry Cook and Sarah his Wife and (she the said Sarah Cook being separately examined apart from her said husband by the said Steward and consenting) Surrendered into the hands of the Lord of the said Manor by the rod and by the acceptance of his Steward aforesaid according to the custom of the said Manor All that the said Cottage or Tenement with all the Lands thereto belonging containing by estimation one acre and an half or thereabouts And also all those two acres of Land part of a parcel of Land called Miles Grove to which the said Sarah had at this Court immediately before been admitted To the use of such person or persons and for such estate and estates interest and interests ends intents and purposes as the said Sarah Cook shall in and by her last Will and Testament in writing or any writing in the nature of or purporting to be her last Will and Testament give will devise limit direct or appoint the same
Death of Stephen Steptoe
The Homage also Present That Stephen Steptoe late one of the Copyhold or Customary Tenants of the said Manor who held to him and his heirs by Copy of Court Roll at the Will of the Lord according to the Custom of the said Manor All those four Acres called Radsells lying in two Closes in Bisley within this Manor one Close whereof is Arable Land and the other Meadow Ground by the yearly rent of Eight-pence Heriot when it shall happen Suit of Court and other Customs and Services And also all that Copyhold Cottage or Tenement with the Turf-house Gardens Orchard or Backside and all other the appurtenances situate lying and being between Cowshott and Staverke Lane in Bisley within this Manor by the yearly rent of four pence Heriot when it shall happen Suit of Court and other Customs and Services Died since the last Court so thereof seized Whereupon there became due to the Lord of this Manor two Heriots the two best live Beasts of the said Stephen Steptoe and that two Pigs were seized and compounded for at the sum of Thirty shillings
And the Homage also Present That William Steptoe is the eldest Son and heir according to the custom of this Manor of the said Stephen Steptoe
1st Proclamation
Now at this Court the first Proclamation was made for the said William Steptoe or any other person or persons who hath or have a right to be admitted to All those the said Four acres called Radsells lying in two Closes in Bisley within this Manor which came into the hands of the Lord of this Manor on the death of the said Stephen Steptoe to come into Court and take the same out of the hands of the Lord of this Manor but no one came Whereupon the first Proclamation and default are here inrolled.

Also at this Court the first Proclamation was made for the said William Steptoe or any other person or persons who hath or have a right to be admitted to All that the said Copyhold Messuage or Tenement with the Turfhouse Gardens Orchard or Backside and appurtenances which also came into the hands of the Lord of this Manor on the death of the said Stephen Steptoe to come into Court and take the same out of the hands of the Lord of this Manor but no one came Whereupon the first Proclamation and default are here inrolled.
Absolute Surrender John Gosden to Henry Downs
At this Court came here into Court in his proper person John Gosden one of the Copyhold or Customary Tenants of the said Manor who hath survived Mary his late Wife deceased And in consideration of the Sum of Ninety pounds of lawful money of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland current in Great Britain to him paid by Henry Downs of Chobham in the County of Surrey surrendered into the hands of the Lord of the said Manor by the Rod and by the acceptance of the Steward aforesaid according to the Custom of the said Manor Two acres of land in one piece being part of four acres of land lying in the Common Field called Wide Croft within this Manor which said two acres of Land abut on the south east and north parts to the lands of John Loveland and on the west on lands of William Eacott the said John Loveland and Mrs Geale Wife of William Geale And also all those two several half acres of land in two pieces part of four acres of land lying in the Common Field called Wide Croft One of which said half acres abuts on the north to lands of Mrs Geale on the south to Land belonging to the Devisees of Joseph Bell On the east to Land of John Loveland and on the west to Land of the said John Gosden And the other half acre abuts on the east to the lands of the said John Loveland the Devisees of Joseph Bell and Mrs Geale On the west to Lands of Mrs Geale On the north to lands of the Devisees of Joseph Bell and John Loveland and on the south to the Lands of the said Mrs Geale To the only proper and absolute use and behoof of the said Henry Downs his heirs and assigns for ever

Now at this Court upon the first Proclamation came here into Court in his proper person the said Henry Downs and humbly prayed to be admitted Tenant to the said two acres of land in one piece being part of four acres of land lying in the Common Field called Wide Croft within this Manor in pursuance of the said Surrender To whom the Lord of the Manor aforesaid by his Steward aforesaid granted the same and delivered seizin thereof by the rod To hold to the said Henry Downs his heirs and assigns for ever by Copy of Court Roll at the Will of the Lord according to the Custom of the said Manor by the yearly rent of Three pence Heriot when it shall happen Suit of Court and other services and customs therefore formerly due and of right accustomed And so he was admitted Tenant thereof in form aforesaid Gave to the Lord as a Fine for such his admittance as appears in the margin [£3 15s] and his fealty was respited.

Also at this Court upon the first Proclamation came here into Court in his proper person the said Henry Downs and humbly prayed to be admitted Tenant to those two several half acres of land in two pieces part of four acres of land lying in the Common Field called Wide Croft within this Manor in pursuance of the said Surrender To whom the Lord of the Manor aforesaid by his Steward aforesaid granted the same and delivered seizin thereof by the rod To hold to the said Henry Downs his heirs and assigns for ever by Copy of Court Roll at the Will of the Lord according to the Custom of the said Manor by the yearly rent of Two pence Heriot when it shall happen Suit of Court and other services and customs therefore formerly due and of right accustomed And so he was admitted Tenant thereof in form aforesaid Gave to the Lord as a Fine for such his admittance as appears in the margin [£1 17s] and his fealty was respited.
Guardianship
And because it appears to this Court that the said Henry Downs is an Infant under the age of twenty one years to wit of the age of twelve Years or thereabouts the Custody as well of the person of the said Henry Downs as of his said Estate is granted to his Father George Downs until the said Infant shall attain the age of twenty one years He the said George Downs keeping and observing the Customs of the said Manor in all things and keeping the Premises in good repair and rendering an Account of the rents and profits of the Premises to the said Infant when he shall attain his said age of twenty one years And the said George Downs is admitted Guardian accordingly.
