Of the Court Baron
The Homage Present a certain Surrender taken out of Court and since the last Court, to wit, the seventeenth day of February One thousand seven hundred and eighty Whereby William Cobbett of Bisley in the County of Surrey Yeoman did Surrender by the Rod into the hands of the Lord of the said Manor by the hands and Acceptance of the said Steward according to the Custom of the said Manor All the Estate Right Title Benefit and Equity of Redemption of him the said William Cobbett of in to and out of All that Customary Messuage or Tenement with the Barns Buildings Gardens Orchards and Backsides Together with all and every the Copyhold Lands and Hereditaments whatsoever and wheresoever And all arable Meadow Pasture and Feeding Lands with their and every of their Appurtenances which were late the Estate of John Cobbett his late Brother deceased and to which the said William Cobbet was admitted as the only Brother and next Heir of the said John Cobbett at a Court Baron holden for the said Manor at Bisley aforesaid on the tenth of October One thousand seven hundred & seventy To The Use and Behoof of John Jarratt of Horsell in the said County of Surrey Husbandman his Heirs and Assigns for ever according to the Custom of the said Manor and to or for no other Use Intent or Purpose whatsoever Provided always Nevertheless if the said William Cobbett his Heirs Executors Administrators or Assigns did and should well and truly pay or cause to be paid unto the said John Jarratt his Executors Admors or Assigns the full and just Sum of Two hundred pounds together with Interest for the same from thenceforth at the rate of five Pounds for One hundred pounds for a year of lawful Money of Great Britain upon the seventeenth day of August next ensuing the date thereof without making any Deduction or abatement thereout whatsoever and without fraud or further delay That then the above mentioned Surrender and all former Surrenders made of the said Premises to the said John Jarratt should be void and of no Effect
The Homage also present a certain Surrender taken out of Court and since the last Court, to wit, the Twenty ninth day of November One thousand seven hundred and seventy nine Whereby Henry Rogers of the Parish of Windlesham in the said County of Surrey Yeoman one of the Customary or Copyhold Tenants of the said Manor of Bisley did Surrender by the Rod into the hands of the Lord of the said Manor by the Acceptance of John Eacott and John Street two other Customary or Copyhold Tenants of the said Manor according to the Custom of the said Manor All that his Customary and Copyhold Estate or Estates Farms Lands and Premises situate lying and being in the Parish of Bisley aforesaid with their and every of their Appurtenances and held of the said Manor To the Use and Behoof of such Person or Persons and to such Use Intent or Purpose as by his last Will and Testament in writing hath Devised Given or Appointed or shall Give Limit or Appoint the same.
The Homage also present That Stephen Steptoe who held to him and his Heirs by Copy of Court Roll at the Will of the Lord according to the Custom of the said Manor All that Copyhold Cottage or Tenement with the Turf House Gardens Orchard or Backside and all other the Appurtenances situate lying and being between Cowshott and Staverke Lane in Bisley within the said Manor died since the last Court Seized thereof Whereupon an Heriot became due to the Lord of this Manor to wit the best living Animal of the said Stephen Steptoe And that a Cow was accordingly Seized and Compounded for and that in and by his last Will and Testament he devised the same to his Son Stephen and his Heirs Whereupon at this Court came into Court in his Proper Person the said Stephen Steptoe the Son and produced the Probate of the Will of his late Father and humbly prayed to be admitted to the said Premises with the Appurtenances which came into the hands of the Lord on the Death of his aid Father To whom the Lord of this Manor by his said Steward Granted the same To hold to him the said Stephen Steptoe his Heirs and Assigns for ever Subject to the Charge in the said will by Copy of Court Roll at the Will of the Lord according to the Custom of the said Manor by the Yearly Rent of ________ [4s] Heriot when it shall happen Suit of Court and other Customs and Services therefore formerly due and of Right accustomed And he Gave to the Lord as a Fine for such his Admittance as appears in the Margin [£4.10s] He is admitted Tenant thereof hath Seizin by the Rod and his Fealty is Respited.
At this Court upon the third Proclamation came into Court Sarah Collyer Spinster by John Skurray her attorney and humbly prayed to be admitted to all that Messuage or Tenement called Cowhurst and two Closes called the Barn containing by Estimation four Acres and one Close called the Church Close containing by Estimation three Acres and one Close abutting upon the Barn late of Thomas Blundell containing by Estimation three Acres and four Acres called Rasdells lying in Bisley with all and singular the Appurtenances which came into the hands of the Lord of this Manor on the Surrender of Richard Piercy and Elizabeth his Wife William Piercy and Ann his Wife Sarah Collyer and James Living and Jane his Wife To whom the Lord of this Manor by his said Steward Granted the same To hold to her the said Sarah Collyer her Heirs and Assigns for ever Upon the Trusts and to and for the Ends Intents and Purposes mentioned expressed and declared of and concerning the same in and by a certain Indenture of five parts bearing date the Twenty fifth day of March one thousand seven hundred and seventy eight and made between the said William Piercy and Ann his Wife of the first part the said Sarah Collyer of the second part the said James Living and Jane his Wife of the third part the said Richard Piercy and Elizabeth his Wife of the fourth part and John Chandler therein named of the fifth part and to and for no other Use Trust Intent or Purpose whatsoever by Copy of Court Roll at the Will of the Lord according to the Custom of the said Manor by the Yearly Rent of ________ [2s.4d] Heriot when it shall happen Suit of Court and other Customs and Services therefore formerly due and of Right accustomed and She Gave to the Lord as a Fine for such her Admittance as appears afterwards She is admitted Tenant thereof hath Seizin by the Rod and her Fealty is Respited.
Also at this Court upon the third Proclamation came again into Court the said Sarah Collyer by the said John Skurray her attorney and humbly prayed to be admitted to A Parcel of Land called Cobbetts Coppice containing by Estimation two Acres be the same more or less which also came into the hands of the Lord of this Manor on the Surrender of Richard Piercy and Elizabeth his Wife William Piercy and Ann his Wife Sarah Collyer and James Living and Jane his Wife To whom the Lord of this Manor by his said Steward Granted the same To hold to her the said Sarah Collyer her Heirs and Assigns for ever Upon the Trusts and to and for the Ends Intents and Purposes mentioned expressed and declared of and concerning the same in and by the said Indenture of the Twenty fifth day of March one thousand seven hundred and seventy eight and to and for no other Use Trust Intent or Purpose whatsoever by Copy of Court Roll at the Will of the Lord according to the Custom of the said Manor by the Yearly Rent of two Pence Heriot when it shall happen Suit of Court and other Customs and Services therefore formerly due and of Right accustomed and She Gave to the Lord as a Fine for this and her former Admittance as appears in the Margin [_] She is admitted Tenant thereof hath Seizin by the Rod and her Fealty is Respited.
Also at this Court upon the third Proclamation came again into Court the said Sarah Collyer by the said John Skurray her attorney and humbly prayed to be admitted to All that Meadow containing by Estimation four Acres adjoining to the Lane leading to Church Road on the East part and Lands now or late of John Phillips on the West Part which came into the hands of the Lord of this Manor on the Surrender of Richard Piercy and Elizabeth his Wife To whom the Lord of this Manor by his said Steward Granted the same To hold to her the said Sarah Collyer her Heirs and Assigns for ever Upon the Trusts and to and for the Ends Intents and Purposes mentioned expressed and declared of and concerning the same in and by a certain Indenture of five parts bearing date the Twenty fifth day of March one thousand seven hundred and seventy eight and made between the said William Piercy and Ann his Wife of the first part the said Sarah Collyer of the second part _______ James Living and Jane his Wife of the third part the said Richard Piercy and Elizabeth his Wife of the fourth part and Richard Collyer and John Chandler therein named of the fifth part and to and for no other Use Trust Intent or Purpose whatsoever by Copy of Court Roll at the Will of the Lord according to the Custom of the said Manor by the Yearly Rent of six Pence Heriot when it shall happen Suit of Court and other Customs and Services therefore formerly due and of Right accustomed and She Gave to the Lord as a Fine for this and her former Admittance as appears afterwards She is admitted Tenant thereof hath Seizin by the Rod and her Fealty is Respited.
Also at this Court upon the third Proclamation came again into Court the said Sarah Collyer by the said John Skurray her attorney and humbly prayed to be admitted to All that Parcel of Land called Miles Grove by Estimation four Acres be the same more or less which also came into the hands of the Lord of this Manor on the Surrender of Richard Piercy and Elizabeth his Wife To whom the Lord of this Manor by his said Steward Granted the same To hold to her the said Sarah Collyer her Heirs and Assigns for ever Upon the Trusts and to and for the Ends Intents and Purposes mentioned expressed and declared of and concerning the same in and by the said Indenture of the Twenty fifth day of March one thousand seven hundred and seventy eight and to and for no other Use Trust Intent or Purpose whatsoever by Copy of Court Roll at the Will of the Lord according to the Custom of the said Manor by the Yearly Rent of _______ [3d] Heriot when it shall happen Suit of Court and other Customs and Services therefore formerly due and of Right accustomed and She Gave to the Lord as a Fine for this and her former Admittance as appears in the Margin [_] She is admitted Tenant thereof hath Seizin by the Rod and her Fealty is Respited.
At this Court came into Court in his Proper Person William Spong a Copyhold or Customary Tenant of the said Manor and Surrendered by the Rod into the hands of the Lord of the said Manor by the Acceptance of the said Steward according to the Custom of the said Manor All and singular his Copyhold Messuages or Tenements Lands and Hereditaments within and held of the said Manor To the Use and Behoof of such Person or Persons and for such Estate and Estates Intents and Purposes and under such directions Limitations and Appointments as he the said William Spong shall in and by his last Will and Testament in writing or any Writing purporting so to be direct Limit declare or appoint the same.
