Biography:
John Molyneux was born in Preston, in 1884. He was the son of Mary Alice Molyneux.

In February 1908, John Molyneux married Grace Froud Hills; at the time, he was working as a carriage groom. From 1909-11 he worked as a waiter at
Woking Golf Club. By 1914, he was employed by the L&SW Railway as a shunter. John and Grace had three children together.

When war broke out, John volunteered for service and enlisted with The King’s (Liverpool) Regiment. 1st Battalion deployed to France with the British
Expeditionary Force in August 1914.

John Molyneux was killed on 16 November 1914, during the First Battle of Ypres. His final resting place is unknown. His name, along with others of his
regiment, is commemorated on Panel 4 of the Menin Gate Memorial, Ypres, Belgium.

The battles of the Ypres Salient claimed many lives on both sides and it quickly became clear that the commemoration of members of the Commonwealth forces with no known grave
would have to be divided between several different sites. The Menin Gate Memorial commemorates those of all Commonwealth nations, except New Zealand, who died in the Salient - in
the case of United Kingdom, casualties before 16 August 1917 (with some exceptions).
